Book Synopsis Mathematical Problems in Linear Viscoelasticity by : Mauro Fabrizio
Download or read book Mathematical Problems in Linear Viscoelasticity written by Mauro Fabrizio and published by SIAM. This book was released on 1992-01-01 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Describes general mathematical modeling of viscoelastic materials as systems with fading memory. Discusses the interrelation between topics such as existence, uniqueness, and stability of initial boundary value problems, variational and extremum principles, and wave propagation. Demonstrates the deep connection between the properties of the solution to initial boundary value problems and the requirements of the general physical principles. Discusses special techniques and new methods, including Fourier and Laplace transforms, extremum principles via weight functions, and singular surfaces and discontinuity waves.
Book Synopsis Functional Models of Cognition by : A. Carsetti

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our ontology as well as our grammar are, as Quine affirms, ineliminable parts of our conceptual contribution to our theory of the world. It seems impossible to think of enti ties, individuals and events without specifying and constructing, in advance, a specific language that must be used in order to speak about these same entities. We really know only insofar as we regiment our system of the world in a consistent and adequate way. At the level of proper nouns and existence functions we have, for instance, a standard form of a regimented language whose complementary apparatus consists of predicates, variables, quantifiers and truth functions. If, for instance, the discoveries in the field of Quantum Mechanics should oblige us, in the future, to abandon the traditional logic of truth functions, the very notion of existence, as established until now, will be chal lenged. These considerations, as developed by Quine, introduce us to a conceptual perspective like the "internal realist" perspective advocated by Putnam whose principal aim is, for cer tain aspects, to link the philosophical approaches developed respectively by Quine and Wittgenstein. Actually, Putnam conservatively extends the approach to the problem of ref erence outlined by Quine: in his opinion, to talk of "facts" without specifying the language to be used is to talk of nothing.

Book Synopsis Important Developments in Soliton Theory by : A.S. Fokas
Download or read book Important Developments in Soliton Theory written by A.S. Fokas and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 563 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the last ten to fifteen years there have been many important developments in the theory of integrable equations. This period is marked in particular by the strong impact of soliton theory in many diverse areas of mathematics and physics; for example, algebraic geometry (the solution of the Schottky problem), group theory (the discovery of quantum groups), topology (the connection of Jones polynomials with integrable models), and quantum gravity (the connection of the KdV with matrix models). This is the first book to present a comprehensive overview of these developments. Numbered among the authors are many of the most prominent researchers in the field.
Book Synopsis Stochastic Processes, Physics And Geometry Ii - Proceedings Of The Iii International Conference by : Sergio Albeverio
Download or read book Stochastic Processes, Physics And Geometry Ii - Proceedings Of The Iii International Conference written by Sergio Albeverio and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1995-02-17 with total page 758 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As was already evident from the previous two meetings, the theory of stochastic processes, the study of geometrical structures, and the investigation of certain physical problems are inter-related. In fact the trend in recent years has been towards stronger interactions between these areas. As a result, a large component of the contributions is concerned with the theory of stochastic processes, quantum theory, and their relations.
Book Synopsis Extended Thermodynamics Systems by : Stanislaw Sieniutycz
Download or read book Extended Thermodynamics Systems written by Stanislaw Sieniutycz and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1992-01-01 with total page 516 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This multiauthored volume sketches the applications of nonequilibrium thermodynamics to complex systems. These are characterized by an involved form of the Gibbs equation and include systems such as solutions of macromolecules, magnetic hysteresis bodies, viscoelastic fluids, polarizable media, fluids under stresses and in the presence of essential nonstationarities, and high temperature gradients. As a rule, the so- called internal variables and/or dissipative fluxes are essential in the thermodynamic description of such systems.
