Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main objective of this work was research and development of the theory and constructive computational algorithms for synthesis of single and dual reflector antenna systems in geometrical optics approximation. During the contracting period a variety of new analytic techniques and computational algorithms have been developed. In particular, for single and dual reflector antenna systems conditions for solvability of the synthesis equations have been established. Numerical algorithms for computing surface data of the reflectors have been developed and successfully tested. In addition, efficient techniques have been developed for computing radiation patterns produced by reflections/refractions off surfaces with arbitrary geometry. These techniques can be used for geometrical optics analysis of complex geometric structures such as aircrafts. They can also be applied to determine effectively the aperture excitations required to produce specified fields at given observation points. The results have a variety of applications in military, civilian, and commercial sectors.

Book excerpt: This is the first truly comprehensive and most up-to-date handbook available on modern reflector antennas and feed sources for diversified space and ground applications. There has never been such an all-encompassing reflector handbook in print, and no currently available title offers coverage of such recent research developments. The Handbook consists of three volumes. Volume I provides a unique combination of theoretical underpinnings with design considerations and techniques. The need for knowledge in reflector antennas has grown steadily over the last two decades due to increased use in space and ground applications, as well as their high gain and wide bandwidth capabilities at relatively low cost. This volume brings you to the leading edge of developments in the field related to numerical techniques, classical reflector geometries, adaptive reflector antennas, shaped reflectors, bifocal and bicollimated dual reflectors, advanced reflectors, and reflect arrays. A must-have reference for both practicing engineers as well as academic researchers.

This book was released on 2018 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two novel aperture type antennas, both for next-generation space borne applications, are designed. The first is 3D printed, all-dielectric, inhomogeneous, shaped lens antenna designed to produce a conically scanned spinning spot beam. The electronic scan stems from a ring of feeds located along the ring focus designed into the azimuthally symmetric lens. The antenna is proposed for use in a space-borne scatterometer used to measure wind speeds upon the surface of the earth's oceans. The design requires the advent of a complex code hybridizing the Computational Electromagnetics method of Geometrical Optics with the optimization strategy of Particle Swarm Optimization. This code and its mathematical formulations, the resultant designs, and the measurements validating the codes and obtained designs are presented in this dissertation. The second is a new novel dual reflector Gregorian antenna system designed to meet the stringent requirements of the newly proposed CubeSat satellite paradigm by folding the optics into one of the most compact dual reflectors to date. The design combines a high gain reflectarray main aperture with an ellipsoidal subreflector fed by a patch array feed. The system is coplanar with the CubeSat chassis, deploying only the subreflector and thus has no moving cables or RF parts. This antenna design also requires a complex computer code to design. The code implemented to design the reflectarrays applies several novel acceleration strategies to the spectral domain method of moments algorithm in order to speed up the calculations. The theory and mathematical formulations behind this algorithm are also presented, as well as the resultant designs and measurements. The accelerated codes are used to design several Ka-Band reflectarrays. Measured and simulated results are provided.

This book was released on 1984 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many existing large ground reflector antennas have been designed as Cassegrain systems - i.e., paraboloid/hyperboloid-combinations. Other large ground antennas are simply paraboloid designs. Upgrading the gain of these systems to a gain comparable to that obtainable with a daul shaped reflector antenna system has been an important and costly objective of many such ground stations. A potentially economic method for such an antenna upgrade is presented herein. It involves a redesign of only the subreflector portion of a Cassegrain antenna or the introduction of a subreflector feed system for a paraboloid. A pair of offset subreflectors are synthesized which will give a controllable high gain amplitude distribution in the aperture of the large paraboloid.

Volume III focuses on the range of reflector antenna applications, including space, terrestrial, and radar. The intent of this book volume is to provide practical applications and design information on reflector antennas used for several communications systems. This book covers recent developments of reflector antennas used for satellite communications, terrestrial communications, and remote sensing applications. New subjects are introduced for the first time, including satellite antennas, Terahertz antennas, PIM, multipaction, corona, deployable mesh reflector antennas, and mechanical aspects of reflector antennas. In addition, this book contains a separate topic on integrated feed assembly for reflector antennas covering analysis, design, fabrication, and test.

Book Synopsis Computational Methods for Antenna Pattern Synthesis by : Joseph R. Mautz
Download or read book Computational Methods for Antenna Pattern Synthesis written by Joseph R. Mautz and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some general numerical methods for antenna pattern synthesis, with and without constraints, are developed in this report. Particular cases considered are (1) field pattern specified in amplitude and phase, (2) field pattern specified in amplitude only, (3) these two cases with a constraint on the source quality factor. Both the source and the field are discretized at the beginning, and the methods of finite dimentional vector spaces are used for the computations. The theory is general, but is applied only to point sources arbitrarily distributed in a plane, and to pattern synthesis in this plane. Some numerical examples are given for ten sources approximately equispaced on one-half of an ellipse, with the desired field pattern chosen to be the cosecant phi pattern in the first quadrant. Book Synopsis Analysis of a Generalized Dual Reflector Antenna System Using Physical Optics by : National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)

This book was released on 2018-06-30 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reflector antennas are widely used in communication satellite systems because they provide high gain at low cost. Offset-fed single paraboloids and dual reflector offset Cassegrain and Gregorian antennas with multiple focal region feeds provide a simple, blockage-free means of forming multiple, shaped, and isolated beams with low sidelobes. Such antennas are applicable to communications satellite frequency reuse systems and earth stations requiring access to several satellites. While the single offset paraboloid has been the most extensively used configuration for the satellite multiple-beam antenna, the trend toward large apertures requiring minimum scanned beam degradation over the field of view 18 degrees for full earth coverage from geostationary orbit may lead to impractically long focal length and large feed arrays. Dual reflector antennas offer packaging advantages and more degrees of design freedom to improve beam scanning and cross-polarization properties. The Cassegrain and Gregorian antennas are the most commonly used dual reflector antennas. A computer program for calculating the secondary pattern and directivity of a generalized dual reflector antenna system was developed and implemented at LeRC. The theoretical foundation for this program is based on the use of physical optics methodology for describing the induced currents on the sub-reflector and main reflector. The resulting induced currents on the main reflector are integrated to obtain the antenna far-zone electric fields. The computer program is verified with other physical optics programs and with measured antenna patterns. The comparison shows good agreement in far-field sidelobe reproduction and directivity.
