Book Synopsis Software Solutions for Engineers and Scientists by : Julio Sanchez
Download or read book Software Solutions for Engineers and Scientists written by Julio Sanchez and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-03-22 with total page 944 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Software requirements for engineering and scientific applications are almost always computational and possess an advanced mathematical component. However, an application that calls for calculating a statistical function, or performs basic differentiation of integration, cannot be easily developed in C++ or most programming languages. In such a case, the engineer or scientist must assume the role of software developer. And even though scientists who take on the role as programmer can sometimes be the originators of major software products, they often waste valuable time developing algorithms that lead to untested and unreliable routines. Software Solutions for Engineers and Scientists addresses the ever present demand for professionals to develop their own software by supplying them with a toolkit and problem-solving resource for developing computational applications. The authors' provide shortcuts to avoid complications, bearing in mind the technical and mathematical ability of their audience. The first section introduces the basic concepts of number systems, storage of numerical data, and machine arithmetic. Chapters on the Intel math unit architecture, data conversions, and the details of math unit programming establish a framework for developing routines in engineering and scientific code. The second part, entitled Application Development, covers the implementation of a C++ program and flowcharting. A tutorial on Windows programming supplies skills that allow readers to create professional quality programs. The section on project engineering examines the software engineering field, describing its common qualities, principles, and paradigms. This is followed by a discussion on the description and specification of software projects, including object-oriented approaches to software development. With the introduction of this volume, professionals can now design effective applications that meet their own field-specific requirements using modern tools and technology.

Book Synopsis Digital Design and Computer Architecture by : David Harris
Download or read book Digital Design and Computer Architecture written by David Harris and published by Morgan Kaufmann. This book was released on 2010-07-26 with total page 593 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Digital Design and Computer Architecture is designed for courses that combine digital logic design with computer organization/architecture or that teach these subjects as a two-course sequence. Digital Design and Computer Architecture begins with a modern approach by rigorously covering the fundamentals of digital logic design and then introducing Hardware Description Languages (HDLs). Featuring examples of the two most widely-used HDLs, VHDL and Verilog, the first half of the text prepares the reader for what follows in the second: the design of a MIPS Processor. By the end of Digital Design and Computer Architecture, readers will be able to build their own microprocessor and will have a top-to-bottom understanding of how it works--even if they have no formal background in design or architecture beyond an introductory class. David Harris and Sarah Harris combine an engaging and humorous writing style with an updated and hands-on approach to digital design. Unique presentation of digital logic design from the perspective of computer architecture using a real instruction set, MIPS. Side-by-side examples of the two most prominent Hardware Design Languages--VHDL and Verilog--illustrate and compare the ways the each can be used in the design of digital systems. Worked examples conclude each section to enhance the reader's understanding and retention of the material.

Book Synopsis The Econometrics of Panel Data by : László Mátyás
Download or read book The Econometrics of Panel Data written by László Mátyás and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-12-01 with total page 944 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this volume is to provide a general overview of the econometrics of panel data, both from a theoretical and from an applied viewpoint. Since the pioneering papers by Edwin Kuh (1959), Yair Mundlak (1961), Irving Hoch (1962), and Pietro Balestra and Marc Nerlove (1966), the pooling of cross sections and time series data has become an increasingly popular way of quantifying economic relationships. Each series provides information lacking in the other, so a combination of both leads to more accurate and reliable results than would be achievable by one type of series alone. Over the last 30 years much work has been done: investigation of the properties of the applied estimators and test statistics, analysis of dynamic models and the effects of eventual measurement errors, etc. These are just some of the problems addressed by this work. In addition, some specific diffi culties associated with the use of panel data, such as attrition, heterogeneity, selectivity bias, pseudo panels etc., have also been explored. The first objective of this book, which takes up Parts I and II, is to give as complete and up-to-date a presentation of these theoretical developments as possible. Part I is concerned with classical linear models and their extensions; Part II deals with nonlinear models and related issues: logit and pro bit models, latent variable models, duration and count data models, incomplete panels and selectivity bias, point processes, and simulation techniques.

Book Synopsis Global Optimization in Action by : János D. Pintér
Download or read book Global Optimization in Action written by János D. Pintér and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 481 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In science, engineering and economics, decision problems are frequently modelled by optimizing the value of a (primary) objective function under stated feasibility constraints. In many cases of practical relevance, the optimization problem structure does not warrant the global optimality of local solutions; hence, it is natural to search for the globally best solution(s). Global Optimization in Action provides a comprehensive discussion of adaptive partition strategies to solve global optimization problems under very general structural requirements. A unified approach to numerous known algorithms makes possible straightforward generalizations and extensions, leading to efficient computer-based implementations. A considerable part of the book is devoted to applications, including some generic problems from numerical analysis, and several case studies in environmental systems analysis and management. The book is essentially self-contained and is based on the author's research, in cooperation (on applications) with a number of colleagues. Audience: Professors, students, researchers and other professionals in the fields of operations research, management science, industrial and applied mathematics, computer science, engineering, economics and the environmental sciences.
