Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A recent study of a jet emerging from a circular pipe into a weak cross flow under the assumptions of an inviscid and incompressible fluid led to expressions for the velocity potential in different regions near the orifice as definite integrals and infinite sums. In the present paper the expressions relating to flow inside the pipe and jet are evaluated with great care. It is confirmed that the solutions in the pipe and jet are continuous across the orifice plane. The behaviour of the solution near the orifice is displayed in graphical form, with emphasis on the consequences of the failure to satisfy a Kutta conditions of smooth outflow at the lip. Keywords: Incompressible flow; Inviscid flow; Jets; Jet in cross flow; Great Britain. (jhd).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The homogenization of single phase gases or liquids with chemical reactive components by mixing belongs to one of the oldest basic operations applied in chemical engineering. The mixing process is used as an essential step in nearly all processes of the chemical industry as well as the pharmaceutical and food ind- tries. Recent experimentally and theoretically based results from research work lead to a fairly good prediction of the velocity fields in differend kinds of mixers, where as predictions of simultaneously proceeding homogeneous chemical re- tions, are still not reliable in a similar way. Therefore the design of equipment for mixing processes is still derived from measurements of the so called “mixing time” which is related to the applied methods of measurement and the special - sign of the test equipment itself. The cooperation of 17 research groups was stimulated by improved modern methods for experimental research and visualization, for simulations and nume- cal calculations of mixing and chemical reactions in micro and macro scale of time and local coordinates. The research work was financed for a six years period within the recently finished Priority Program of the German Research Foundation (DFG) named “Analysis, modeling and numerical prediction of flow-mixig with and without chemical reactions (SPP 1141)”. The objective of the investigations was to improve the prediction of efficiencies and selectivities of chemical re- tions on macroscopic scale.

Book Synopsis The Roll-up of a Cylindrical Jet in a Cross Flow by : Hsui-chen Chang
Download or read book The Roll-up of a Cylindrical Jet in a Cross Flow written by Hsui-chen Chang and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The roll-up of the separation boundary between a parallel stream and a cylindrical jet which penetrates perpendicularly the parallel stream is investigated. The spacewise stationary problem is transformed into a nonstationary one and solutions are obtained using two different methods. In the first, valid only near the jet exit plane, the potential flow is solved by using a series expansion technique. A second method uses a number of single vortex lines to represent the jet boundary and is valid to a greater distance from the jet exit plane. Using these techniques the jet roll-up mechanism is investigated and numerical solutions are obtained. (Modified author abstract).
Book Synopsis Numerical Simulation of a Jet in a Cross-flow by : Murray J. Rudman
Download or read book Numerical Simulation of a Jet in a Cross-flow written by Murray J. Rudman and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The jet in cross-flow (JICF) problem has many practical applications and has been studied extensively over the past fifty years. In this paper, a numerical solution for the time- dependent development of a weakly compressible axisymmetric jet issuing into a cross-flow is discussed. Most of the basic vortex systems that are observed experimentally are also observed in the results of the simulation. In particular, the formation of wake vortices in a numerical simulation is observed for the first time and gives hope that the mechanisms responsible for wake vortex formation can be determined using the numerical procedure.
