Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Quaternionic and Clifford analysis are an extension of complex analysis into higher dimensions. The unique starting point of Wolfgang Sprößig’s work was the application of quaternionic analysis to elliptic differential equations and boundary value problems. Over the years, Clifford analysis has become a broad-based theory with a variety of applications both inside and outside of mathematics, such as higher-dimensional function theory, algebraic structures, generalized polynomials, applications of elliptic boundary value problems, wavelets, image processing, numerical and discrete analysis. The aim of this volume is to provide an essential overview of modern topics in Clifford analysis, presented by specialists in the field, and to honor the valued contributions to Clifford analysis made by Wolfgang Sprößig throughout his career.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advances in technology over the last 25 years have created a situation in which workers in diverse areas of computerscience and engineering have found it neces sary to increase their knowledge of related fields in order to make further progress. Clifford (geometric) algebra offers a unified algebraic framework for the direct expression of the geometric ideas underlying the great mathematical theories of linear and multilinear algebra, projective and affine geometries, and differential geometry. Indeed, for many people working in this area, geometric algebra is the natural extension of the real number system to include the concept of direction. The familiar complex numbers of the plane and the quaternions of four dimen sions are examples of lower-dimensional geometric algebras. During "The 6th International Conference on Clifford Algebras and their Ap plications in Mathematical Physics" held May 20--25, 2002, at Tennessee Tech nological University in Cookeville, Tennessee, a Lecture Series on Clifford Ge ometric Algebras was presented. Its goal was to to provide beginning graduate students in mathematics and physics and other newcomers to the field with no prior knowledge of Clifford algebras with a bird's eye view of Clifford geometric algebras and their applications. The lectures were given by some of the field's most recognized experts. The enthusiastic response of the more than 80 partici pants in the Lecture Series, many of whom were graduate students or postdocs, encouraged us to publish the expanded lectures as chapters in book form.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In its traditional form, Clifford analysis provides the function theory for solutions of the Dirac equation. From the beginning, however, the theory was used and applied to problems in other fields of mathematics, numerical analysis, and mathematical physics. recently, the theory has enlarged its scope considerably by incorporating geometrical methods from global analysis on manifolds and methods from representation theory. New, interesting branches of the theory are based on conformally invariant, first-order systems other than the Dirac equation, or systems that are invariant with respect to a group other than the conformal group. This book represents an up-to-date review of Clifford analysis in its present form, its applications, and directions for future research. Readership: Mathematicians and theoretical physicists interested in Clifford analysis itself, or in its applications to other fields.

Book excerpt: This International Conference on Clifford AlgebrfU and Their Application, in Math ematical Phy,ic, is the third in a series of conferences on this theme, which started at the Univer, ity of Kent in Canterbury in 1985 and was continued at the Univer,iU de, Science, et Technique, du Languedoc in Montpellier in 1989. Since the start of this series of Conferences the research fields under consideration have evolved quite a lot. The number of scientific papers on Clifford Algebra, Clifford Analysis and their impact on the modelling of physics phenomena have increased tremendously and several new books on these topics were published. We were very pleased to see old friends back and to wellcome new guests who by their inspiring talks contributed fundamentally to tracing new paths for the future development of this research area. The Conference was organized in Deinze, a small rural town in the vicinity of the University town Gent. It was hosted by De Ceder, a vacation and seminar center in a green area, a typical landscape of Flanders's "plat pays" . The Conference was attended by 61 participants coming from 18 countries; there were 10 main talks on invitation, 37 contributions accepted by the Organizing Com mittee and a poster session. There was also a book display of Kluwer Academic Publishers. As in the Proceedings of the Canterbury and Montpellier conferences we have grouped the papers accordingly to the themes they are related to: Clifford Algebra, Clifford Analysis, Classical Mechanics, Mathematical Physics and Physics Models.

Book excerpt: Quarternionic calculus covers a branch of mathematics which uses computational techniques to help solve problems from a wide variety of physical systems which are mathematically modelled in 3, 4 or more dimensions. Examples of the application areas include thermodynamics, hydrodynamics, geophysics and structural mechanics. Focusing on the Clifford algebra approach the authors have drawn together the research into quarternionic calculus to provide the non-expert or research student with an accessible introduction to the subject. This book fills the gap between the theoretical representations and the requirements of the user.

Book excerpt: Clifford algebras have many well-known applications in physics, engineering, and computer graphics. Zeon algebras are subalgebras of Clifford algebras whose combinatorial properties lend them to graph-theoretic applications such as enumerating minimal cost paths in dynamic networks. This book provides a foundational working knowledge of zeon algebras, their properties, and their potential applications in an increasingly technological world. As a graduate-level or advanced undergraduate-level mathematics textbook, it is suitable for self-study by researchers interested in new approaches to existing combinatorial problems and applications (wireless networks, Boolean satisfiability, coding theory, etc.).As the first textbook to explore algebraic and combinatorial properties of zeon algebras in depth, it is suitable for interdisciplinary study in analysis, algebra, and combinatorics. The material is complemented by the CliffMath software package for Mathematica, which is freely available through the book's webpage.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first book of its kind, New Foundations in Mathematics: The Geometric Concept of Number uses geometric algebra to present an innovative approach to elementary and advanced mathematics. Geometric algebra offers a simple and robust means of expressing a wide range of ideas in mathematics, physics, and engineering. In particular, geometric algebra extends the real number system to include the concept of direction, which underpins much of modern mathematics and physics. Much of the material presented has been developed from undergraduate courses taught by the author over the years in linear algebra, theory of numbers, advanced calculus and vector calculus, numerical analysis, modern abstract algebra, and differential geometry. The principal aim of this book is to present these ideas in a freshly coherent and accessible manner. New Foundations in Mathematics will be of interest to undergraduate and graduate students of mathematics and physics who are looking for a unified treatment of many important geometric ideas arising in these subjects at all levels. The material can also serve as a supplemental textbook in some or all of the areas mentioned above and as a reference book for professionals who apply mathematics to engineering and computational areas of mathematics and physics.
