This investigation is an effort to theoretically and experimentally justify the role of asymmetric bubble collapse in cavitation damage. The theoretical investigation employs a combined Eulerian and Lagrangian computer code capable of following the collapse of a bubble much further than previous perturbation techniques. The experimental investigation is concerned with the development of a specialized spark camera with a maximum framing rate of 1,000,000 frames per second and a spatial resolution higher than any other camera presently available at this laboratory.
