Download or read book Transglobal Sounds written by João Sardinha and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2016-08-11 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Through a transnational, comparative and multi-level approach to the relationship between youth, migration, and music, the aesthetic intersections between the local and the global, and between agency and identity, are presented through case studies in this book. Transglobal Sounds contemplates migrant youth and the impact of music in diaspora settings and on the lives of individuals and collectives, engaging with broader questions of how new modes of identification are born out of the social, cultural, historical and political interfaces between youth, migration and music. Thus, through acts of mobility and environments lived in and in-between, this volume seeks to articulate between musical transnationalism and sense of place in exploring the complex relationship between music and young migrants and migrant descendant's everyday lives.
Book Synopsis Women in Mexican Subnational Legislatures by : Flavia Freidenberg
Download or read book Women in Mexican Subnational Legislatures written by Flavia Freidenberg and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-02-07 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book aims to fill a gap in research on women's political representation by developing a multidimensional assessment of female participation in subnational legislatures in a federal political system like Mexico. The Mexican experience in terms of women's political representation at the federal and subnational levels has been very successful, as the reforms created a more robust "gender electoral regime" that promoted an increase in the number of elected female legislators (1987-2021). Still, little is known about the impact of the rise in women's presence in Congresses on other dimensions of political representation, such as symbolic or substantive. Although previous studies on women's political representation in Mexico have yielded exciting conclusions based on empirical evidence and strengthened a theory focused on the analysis of presence, it is still insufficient to explain the other dimensions of representation and the relationship between them. Therefore, this book contributes to the comparative scholarship from the perspective of feminist neo-institutionalism, expanding the understanding of the relationship between women's formal and descriptive representation, the content of legislative work in terms of preferences and interests (substantive representation), and its symbolic effects on women and politics in general (symbolic representation). Women in Mexican Subnational Legislatures: From Descriptive to Substantive Representation will be of interest to political scientists, sociologists, and jurists interested in gender and politics. The book fills a theoretical and empirical gap on the effects of gender parity in the programmatic and symbolic scope of power building. The findings on good practices and challenges are discussed within a broader body of comparative research, providing knowledge to academia, policymakers, and international cooperation agencies about the remaining obstacles to strengthening Latin American democracies and the need to continue exploring the links between subnational politics and democratization of federal political systems.

Download or read book Knots like Stars written by Roberto Forns-Broggi and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2016-08-17 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Knots like Stars: The ABCs of the Ecological Imagination in Our Americas is an encyclopedia of essays and aphorisms, at times personal, at times speculative and analytical, that invites readers to understand and enjoy an ecological perspective on Latin American literature and arts. It is simultaneously a summons to join creative forces with the non-human world. Through 43 key, interdependent entries from diverse environmental traditions, writing becomes a meditation on the poetry, films, and visual artistic traditions that sustain life, while opposing the actual destruction of Mesoamerican, Andean, and Amazonian biodiversity. The book will appeal to all people wanting to understand how poetic, artistic, and critical endeavors can enrich, rather than impoverish, the imperiled world around us. Since the Hispanic population and influence have increased dramatically in recent years, a better understanding of the complexity of this diverse culture will be an important asset for a sustainable and more interconnected future. This book invites its readers to expand their horizons and enjoy connections in order to build a sustainable community by integrating ecological perspectives in literature, film, and other arts.

Book Synopsis La evolución geográfica de la productividad y el empleo by : Elena Ianchovichina
Download or read book La evolución geográfica de la productividad y el empleo written by Elena Ianchovichina and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2024-03-19 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

This book was released on 2013-01-01 with total page 513 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The highly unique International Handbook on Gender, Migration and Transnationalism represents a state-of-the-art review of the critical importance of the links between gender and migration in a globalizing world. It draws on original, largely field-based contributions by authors across a range of disciplinary provenances worldwide. This unprecedented and ambitious Handbook addresses core debates on issues of gender, migration, transnationalism and development from a migrationdevelopment nexus. Using an analytical approach, it explores the influence of global changes namely the analysis of transnational migration flows from the perspective of the articulation of production and reproduction chains. Particular attention is paid to so-called global care chains with new models developed around the emerging trends played out by women in contemporary mobility flows. This path-breaking Handbook will provide a thought-provoking read for a multidisciplinary audience of academics, researchers and students of social science disciplines encompassing: economics, sociology, geography, demography, political science and political sociology, migration studies, family and gender studies and labour markets. The Handbook will also be of major interest to and importance for local and national governments, international agencies and their policymakers and administrators.

Download or read book A New Blue Ocean written by Yihai Li and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-01-18 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the achievements and obstacles confronting China and major Latin American countries in developing small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the context of new changes in “The Belt and Road” Initiative. In the first three chapters, the Chinese authors elaborate on the relationship between “The Belt and Road” Initiative and globalization, as well as strategies towards forming an increasingly close bond between China and Latin America. The book ends with chapters dedicated to analyzing the BRI conditions and effects on SMEs of Latin-American countries. These country specific chapters will show the specific opportunities and challenges the countries conditions, be they political, geological, etc. may have on the development of SMEs under the BRI. The book will be useful not only to industry leaders looking to better understand how they can potentially benefit from the BRI but also by the general public, as the book will explain what this new era of globalization, and more specifically the BRI, will mean for the world’s industries and society.
