Book Synopsis Somos nuestra memoria by : Iván Izquierdo
Download or read book Somos nuestra memoria written by Iván Izquierdo and published by Libros del Zorzal. This book was released on 2021 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

This book was released on 2021-11-05 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Download or read book Out of the Shadows written by Jo Fisher and published by NYU Press. This book was released on 1993 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the early 1970s women across South America have been uniting to confont the brutality and repression of military rule. In Out of the Shadows, author Jo Fisher interviews women in Argentina, Chile, Uruguay and Paraguay to show how they have moved into the vacuum left by the military's destruction of the male-dominated left. Chapters describe how women have organised - in communal kitchens in Chile's shantytowns, as trade unionists in Uruguay, peace activists in Paraguay, mothers of the disappeared and self-help groups in Argentina, as grassroots feminists in Chile - ending the isolation of home life. While built around the traditional female concerns such as providing food and care for their families, the new women's movements have developed a grassroots feminism that is strikingly different from the middle class feminism of the city centres and have had a seismic impact on gender consciousness throughout the region.

Book Synopsis Engendering Wealth And Well-being by : Cathy Rakowski
Download or read book Engendering Wealth And Well-being written by Cathy Rakowski and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-02-19 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The new international division of labor and the imposition of structural adjustment on Third World countries has necessitated a reexamination of development policies and a reevaluation of the role of gender in their success or failure. Although women often bear the heaviest burden under structural adjustment, there is also considerable evidence of women being empowered through their responses to the challenges of economic restructuring. Based on case study material from Eastern Europe, the Islamic nations, Africa, China, and Latin America, this volume explores the significant contributions women make to the wealth and well-being of their families and nations. The contributors argue persuasively that women may hold the key to sustainable development, an increasingly critical issue at a time when policymakers are reconsidering the full costs and benefits of a growth-fixated development model. One of the first to embody the new “gender and development” paradigm, this book reports on research at the frontiers of knowledge and theory about the gendered outcomes of economic transformation, restructuring, and social change. By incorporating “voices from the South,” it makes a provocative addition to our understanding of the political economy of development and of the relationship between world ecology and the world economy.

Book Synopsis The Politics of Motherhood by : Jadwiga E. Pieper Mooney
Download or read book The Politics of Motherhood written by Jadwiga E. Pieper Mooney and published by University of Pittsburgh Pre. This book was released on 2009-12-06 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the 2006 election of Michelle Bachelet as the first female president and women claiming fifty percent of her cabinet seats, the political influence of Chilean women has taken a major step forward. Despite a seemingly liberal political climate, Chile has a murky history on women's rights, and progress has been slow, tenuous, and in many cases, non-existent. Chronicling an era of unprecedented modernization and political transformation, Jadwiga E. Pieper Mooney examines the negotiations over women's rights and the politics of gender in Chile throughout the twentieth century. Centering her study on motherhood, Pieper Mooney explores dramatic changes in health policy, population paradigms, and understandings of human rights, and reveals that motherhood is hardly a private matter defined only by individual women or couples. Instead, it is intimately tied to public policies and political competitions on nation-state and international levels. The increased legitimacy of women's demands for rights, both locally and globally, has led to some improvements in gender equity. Yet feminists in contemporary Chile continue to face strong opposition from neoconservatism in the Catholic Church and a mixture of public apathy and legal wrangling over reproductive rights and health.
