Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Driving is a privilege and not a right. Drivers must drive responsibly and safely, obey traffic laws, and never drink and drive. Finally, make sure that you and your passengers are properly buckled up - it's the law! Today's vehicles are loaded with technology that was unheard of even a decade ago. Systems that warn when you are drifting from your lane, assist you in parallel parking, automatically brake in emergency situations and provide 360 degrees of vision around the vehicle via a camera are becoming standard, even on moderately priced vehicles. As remarkable as these leaps in automotive technology are, the truth is that the most important safety feature in any vehicle remains you as the driver. Therefore, it is to your benefit to continue improving and expanding your knowledge of traffic laws and safe driving practices. Driving is a privilege. Once you have been issued a driver's license, you have the responsibility to continually demonstrate the skill and knowledge to drive safely. Whether you have been behind the wheel for decades or are just starting to venture out, driving is a discipline that requires judgment, knowledge, physical and mental self-awareness, and practice. "What Every Driver Must Know" is an excellent resource for assisting you on this lifelong journey.
Book Synopsis Handbook of Teen and Novice Drivers by : Donald L Fisher

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite a growing body of research and targeted remediation, teenage and novice drivers continue to be six to nine times more likely to die in a crash than they are when they are just a few years older. The World Health Organization reports that road traffic injuries are the leading cause of death globally among 15 to 19 year olds. In light of these crash statistics, understanding the teen driver problem remains of paramount public health importance around the world. The Handbook of Teen and Novice Drivers: Research, Practice, Policy, and Directions provides critical knowledge for a broad range of potential readers, including students, teachers, researchers in academics, industry and the federal government, public policy makers at all levels, insurance companies and automobile manufacturers, driving instructors, and parents and their teens.

Download or read book Novice drivers written by Great Britain: Parliament: House of Commons: Transport Committee and published by The Stationery Office. This book was released on 2007-07-19 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Novice drivers (those with less than three years driving experience) are among the most vulnerable drivers on our roads, particularly in the first year after passing their test, with one research study finding that nearly one fifth of new drivers were involved in at least one crash within one year of passing their tests. The Committee's report examines a number of options designed to create a more structured approach to learning to drive, in order to help reduce road deaths and injuries amongst novice drivers and the victims of their inexperience. Options include establishing a minimum learning period; graduated driver licensing so that there might be a restriction on driving at night for a certain period after passing a test or a limit on the car engine size allowed; and driver education schemes designed to influence people at a young age to address the development of over-confident attitudes. It also considers the role of the insurance industry and measures to make traffic law enforcement more effective, particularly for disqualified and unlicensed drivers. Recommendations include: i) the introduction of a minimum 12-month learning period, thereby establishing the minimum age for holding a full driving licence at 18 years, in line with most European countries; ii) the need to evaluate the enforceability of two blood alcohol concentration limits, one for novice drivers and one for the general driving populations; iii) the need for further research to understand the scale and nature of the crash involvement of novice drivers, as distinct from young drivers; and iv) reforming the driver training and testing framework including a mandatory continuous professional development programme for all driving instructors.
Book Synopsis Understanding Driving by : John A. Groeger
Download or read book Understanding Driving written by John A. Groeger and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-02-01 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book closely examines what is involved in driving. It identifies the aspects of perception, attention, learning, memory, decision making and action control which are drawn upon in order to enable us to drive, and the brain systems involved. It attempts to show how studying tasks such as driving can help to understand how these fundamental aspects of cognition combine to facilitate performance in complex everyday tasks. In doing so it shows how a very broad range of laboratory based findings can be applied, and that through our attempts to apply this knowledge to complex everyday tasks, we gain, in return, a greater understanding of fundamental aspects of human cognition.

Book Synopsis Third Party Policing by : Lorraine Mazerolle
Download or read book Third Party Policing written by Lorraine Mazerolle and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2006-02-16 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Third party policing represents a major shift in contemporary crime control practices. As the lines blur between criminal and civil law, responsibility for crime control no longer rests with state agencies but is shared between a wide range of organisations, institutions or individuals. The first comprehensive book of its kind, Third Party Policing examines this growing phenomenon, arguing that it is the legal basis of third party policing that defines it as a unique strategy. Opening up the debate surrounding this controversial topic, the authors examine civil and regulatory controls necessary to this strategy and explore the historical, legal, political and organizational environment that shape its adoption. This innovative book combines original research with a theoretical framework that reaches far beyond criminology into politics and economics. It offers an important addition to the world-wide debate about the nature and future of policing and will prove invaluable to scholars and policy makers.
