This, however, did not consistently translate into improved ability for serial measurements to predict cardiovascular admission. The use of biomarkers for monitoring may depend more on the pathophysiological process being measured and the association of any marker with that process. Biomarkers of hypertrophy and fibrosis, galectin-3 and sST2, appear to show the most potential for monitoring purposes. This thesis supports the development of randomised controlled trials to assess these markers in greater detail.
Book Synopsis Novel Biomarkers for Heart Disease by : Michael Lichtenauer
Download or read book Novel Biomarkers for Heart Disease written by Michael Lichtenauer and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2020-12-28 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cardiac biomarkers such as troponins and natiuretic peptides have made a great impact on clinical decision making as well as improving our understanding of molecular mechanisms of different disease conditions. However, the biomarkers that are currently in use do not reflect all the multiple disease pathways that are involved in a broad spectrum of cardiac disease conditions ranging from acute coronary syndrome, to heart failure (and heart failure with preserved ejection fraction, HFpEF), to pulmonary hypertension or arrhythmias. In this Special Issue, we will provide an overview of the current developments in the field of biomarker research, beginning with research on molecular pathways and cellular communication (e.g., microRNA) up to the clinical use of biomarkers.

This book was released on 2010-06-25 with total page 335 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many people naturally assume that the claims made for foods and nutritional supplements have the same degree of scientific grounding as those for medication, but that is not always the case. The IOM recommends that the FDA adopt a consistent scientific framework for biomarker evaluation in order to achieve a rigorous and transparent process.
Book Synopsis Acute Heart Failure by : Alexandre Mebazaa
Download or read book Acute Heart Failure written by Alexandre Mebazaa and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-12-24 with total page 922 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For many years, there has been a great deal of work done on chronic congestive heart failure while acute heart failure has been considered a difficult to handle and hopeless syndrome. However, in recent years acute heart failure has become a growing area of study and this is the first book to cover extensively the diagnosis and management of this complex condition. The book reflects the considerable amounts of new data reported and many new concepts which have been proposed in the last 3-4 years looking at the epidemiology, diagnostic and treatment of acute heart failure.

Book Synopsis Biomarkers in Heart Failure, an Issue of Heart Failure Clinics by : Eugene Braunwald
Download or read book Biomarkers in Heart Failure, an Issue of Heart Failure Clinics written by Eugene Braunwald and published by Saunders. This book was released on 2009-09-02 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Biomarkers - which may be enzymes, hormones, biologic substances, or other markers of cardiac stress and malfunction - appear to have growing clinical importance in heart failure. Many biomarkers appear to provide important information about the cause of heart failure or the identification of those at risk for heart failure or appear to be useful in risk stratification, in the diagnosis of heart failure, or in monitoring therapy. This issue discusses the current and potential future role of biomarkers and includes articles that explore individual biomarkers in depth.
