Anstatt den knapp 50 Millionen im Jahr 2011 werden z.B. im Jahr 2030 nur noch knapp 42 Millionen Personen dieser Kategorie angehören. Doch nicht nur die Quantität der Arbeitskräfte nimmt kontinuierlich ab, auch die Qualität der potentiellen Arbeitnehmer entspricht in größeren Teilen nicht mehr der Erwartung der Unternehmen. Erkennbar wird dies aus Sicht der Unternehmen an immer weniger ausbildungsreifen Schulabsolventen, welche nicht mehr die notwendige Basis-Qualifikation für den Berufseinstieg mitbringen. Demgegenüber steigt die Nachfrage nach kreativen, wissbegierigen und lernfähigen Talenten immer weiter an. Gerade diese Mitarbeiter werden immer öfter zum erfolgsentscheidenden Produktionsfaktor von Unternehmen. Doch gerade auf Grund ihrer gefragten Eigenschaften ist diese Gruppe vor allem eines, nämlich arbeitsmarktfähig. Für weitere Spannungen sorgt in diesem Hinblick die immer weiter abnehmende Beziehung zwischen Arbeitnehmer und Arbeitgeber. Galt früher noch ein psychologischer Vertrag zwischen den beiden Parteien, so ist heutzutage die Loyalität der Arbeitnehmer nur so lange gegeben, wie die durch den Arbeitgeber gebotenen Perspektiven attraktiv scheinen. Diese beschriebene volkswirtschaftliche Entwicklung wirft für Unternehmen aller Größen Probleme auf. Wie kann künftig sichergestellt werden, dass Unternehmen ausreichend mit Talenten versorgt werden, diese im Unternehmen verbleiben und dort zielführend entwickelt werden können? Einen Ansatz zur Bekämpfung dieser Problematik bietet das Konzept des Talent Managements. Viele Großunternehmen betreiben bereits seit längerer Zeit aktiv Talent Management, doch auch in den kleinen und mittleren Unternehmen nimmt die Verbreitung stetig zu. Die Zielsetzung dieser Arbeit lautet demzufolge: Unter welchen Voraussetzungen macht die Einführung eines Talent Managements in KMU überhaupt Sinn und wann ist dieses auch realisierbar? Um die Rahmenbedingungen aufzuzeigen sollen allgemeingültige Kriterien erarbeitet werden, welche die qualitativen Besonderheiten von kleinen und mittleren Unternehmen berücksichtigen. Abschließend soll durch entsprechende Handlungsempfehlungen dargestellt werden, wie in der Praxis ein angepasstes Talent Management in kleinen und mittleren Unternehmen aussehen könnte.
