Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Metallic amorphous materials are of high strength, high corrosion resistance, high permeability and other industrially important and useful properties. Furthermore, new metallic materials can be produced from metallic amorphous materials by proper crystallization processes, usually heat treatment, to meet the various industrial demands. In subvolume A, 8327 points of formation data of 1532 ternary amorphous alloys consisting of 351 ternary systems have been extracted, classified and evaluated. Preparation methods, atmosphere for preparation of amorphous alloys, sample form and size and phase identification methods are provided. Composition data are given in phase diagrams and tables. Subvolume B is in preparation.

Book excerpt: Nanometre-sized clusters (nanoclusters) that make up amorphous materials (metallic alloys and organic and inorganic compounds) cast new light on the science and technology of this century. However, because various electronic characteristics of nanoclusters have been discovered during the past decade, there have been few publications concerned with the electronic properties of nanoclusters. This book presents a detailed study of these properties, beginning with their basic characteristics (from alloy synthesis to the electronic rule for the formation of amorphous alloys) to more technical aspects (such as new single electron transistors, superior ballistic conduction).

Book excerpt: Solid state chemistry is a multidisciplinary field that deals with the synthesis, structural characterization and properties of various solids, and it has been playing a more and more important role in the design and preparation of advanced materials. This book includes the excellent research results recently obtained by a wide spectrum of solid state chemists both from China and from abroad. Among the distinguished contributors are C N R Rao, M Greenblatt and Y T Qian, to name a few. A variety of subjects representing the frontiers of solid state chemistry ? which are categorized into solids with electrical, optical and magnetic properties; porous solids and catalysts; hybrid inorganic-organic solids; solid nanomaterials; and new synthetic methods and theory ? are presented. This book will benefit readers who are interested in the chemistry and physics of solids, as well as materials scientists and engineers. The proceedings have been selected for coverage in: ?
