Book excerpt: The nonlinear interaction of an RF electromagnetic wave and a plasma, which is characterized by the generation of electromagnetic power at frequencies harmonically related to the applied frequency, is studied theoretically and experimentally. Various plasma mechanisms responsible for this nonlinear behavior are analyzed. One particular mechanism is analyzed in detail and experiments designed to verify this detailed analysis are described. Good agreement between theory and experiment is obtained. Closely related to the nonlinear study is the topic of propagation of electromagnetic waves in a plasma. It is found that there is a mode of propagation in a bounded magneto plasma which can be classified as a surface wave. This mode exhibits a non-reciprocal behavior similar to the effect found in a ferrite field displacement isolator. The relationship of the propagation constant and the field configuration of this mode to the plasma parameters is studied. Theory and preliminary experimental results are in qualitative agreement. Book Synopsis Fluctuations and Non-Linear Wave Interactions in Plasmas by : A. G. Sitenko
Download or read book Fluctuations and Non-Linear Wave Interactions in Plasmas written by A. G. Sitenko and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-09-20 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fluctuations and Non-linear Wave Interactions in Plasmas talks about a theory of fluctuations in a homogenous plasma. The title takes into consideration non-linear wave interactions. The text first presents the statistical description of plasma, and then proceeds to covering non-linear electrodynamic equations. Next, the selection deals with the electrodynamic properties of magento-active plasma and waves in plasma. The text also tackles non-linear wave interactions, along with fluctuations in plasmas. The next chapter talks about the effect of non-linear wave interaction on fluctuations in a plasma. Chapter 8 details fluctuation-dissipation theorem, while Chapter 9 discusses kinetic equations. The tenth chapter covers the scattering and radiation of waves and the last chapter tackles wave interaction in semi-bounded plasma. The book will be of great use to scientists and professionals who deals with plasmas.
Book Synopsis The Dissipation of Electromagnetic Waves in Plasmas by : N. G. Basov
Download or read book The Dissipation of Electromagnetic Waves in Plasmas written by N. G. Basov and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This anthology includes articles on experimental studies of the interaction of high-power electromag netic waves with collisionless plasmas and with electrons. The nonlinear interaction of waves with plasmas has been investigated both under free space conditions and in waveguides. A study of secondary-emission dis charges was made in order to ascertain their possible effect on measurements in waveguides. The results presented here on the interaction of high-power waves with plasmas and electrons are of interest to a wide range of physicists and engineers concerned with various questions on the interaction of electromagnetic radiation with plasmas, including microwave heating of plasmas and laser fusion. v CONTENTS An Experimental Investigation of Nonlinear Dissipation of Electromagnetic Waves in Inhomogeneous Collisionless Plasmas - G.M. Book Synopsis Spatial Dispersion in Solids and Plasmas by : Peter Halevi
Download or read book Spatial Dispersion in Solids and Plasmas written by Peter Halevi and published by North Holland. This book was released on 1992 with total page 704 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A realistic description of plasmas, metals, semiconductors and insulators often requires spatially dispersive (non-local) models. This means that the dielectric function which characterizes the material medium depends on the wave-vector, as well as on the frequency. Surprisingly, there is no book which is entirely devoted to this important subject. The chapters presented in this book discuss electromagnetic (polariton) wave propagation in the bulk, at surfaces, in thin films and superlattices, in spheres and on cylinders. The emphasis is on advances in research in the last decade. Spatial Dispersion in Solids and Plasmas will be of multidisciplinary interest covering plasma physics, solid-state physics, optics, surface physics, and electrical engineering.

Book Synopsis Surface Flute Waves in Plasmas by : Volodymyr Girka
Download or read book Surface Flute Waves in Plasmas written by Volodymyr Girka and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-12 with total page 169 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book presents results of a comprehensive study of various features of eigen electromagnetic waves propagating across the axis of plasma filled metal waveguides with cylindrical geometry. The authors collected in one book material on various features of surface flute waves, i.e. impact of waveguide design on wave dispersion, wave damping influenced by various reasons, impact of plasma density and external magnetic field inhomogeneity on the wave, and impact of waveguide corrugation and electric current on the wave. A variety of present surface waves applications and possible future applications is also included. Using the method of successive approximations it is shown how one can solve problems, which concern real experimental devices, starting from simple models. The book applies to both professionals dealing with problems of confined plasmas and to graduate and post-graduate students specializing in the field of plasma physics and related applications.
