Book Synopsis Singularities of Solutions to Chemotaxis Systems by : Piotr Biler
Download or read book Singularities of Solutions to Chemotaxis Systems written by Piotr Biler and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2019-12-02 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Keller-Segel model for chemotaxis is a prototype of nonlocal systems describing concentration phenomena in physics and biology. While the two-dimensional theory is by now quite complete, the questions of global-in-time solvability and blowup characterization are largely open in higher dimensions. In this book, global-in-time solutions are constructed under (nearly) optimal assumptions on initial data and rigorous blowup criteria are derived.

Book Synopsis Advanced Calculus (Revised Edition) by : Lynn Harold Loomis
Download or read book Advanced Calculus (Revised Edition) written by Lynn Harold Loomis and published by World Scientific Publishing Company. This book was released on 2014-02-26 with total page 595 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An authorised reissue of the long out of print classic textbook, Advanced Calculus by the late Dr Lynn Loomis and Dr Shlomo Sternberg both of Harvard University has been a revered but hard to find textbook for the advanced calculus course for decades. This book is based on an honors course in advanced calculus that the authors gave in the 1960's. The foundational material, presented in the unstarred sections of Chapters 1 through 11, was normally covered, but different applications of this basic material were stressed from year to year, and the book therefore contains more material than was covered in any one year. It can accordingly be used (with omissions) as a text for a year's course in advanced calculus, or as a text for a three-semester introduction to analysis. The prerequisites are a good grounding in the calculus of one variable from a mathematically rigorous point of view, together with some acquaintance with linear algebra. The reader should be familiar with limit and continuity type arguments and have a certain amount of mathematical sophistication. As possible introductory texts, we mention Differential and Integral Calculus by R Courant, Calculus by T Apostol, Calculus by M Spivak, and Pure Mathematics by G Hardy. The reader should also have some experience with partial derivatives. In overall plan the book divides roughly into a first half which develops the calculus (principally the differential calculus) in the setting of normed vector spaces, and a second half which deals with the calculus of differentiable manifolds.

Book Synopsis Functional Analysis, Sobolev Spaces and Partial Differential Equations by : Haim Brezis
Download or read book Functional Analysis, Sobolev Spaces and Partial Differential Equations written by Haim Brezis and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-11-02 with total page 600 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook is a completely revised, updated, and expanded English edition of the important Analyse fonctionnelle (1983). In addition, it contains a wealth of problems and exercises (with solutions) to guide the reader. Uniquely, this book presents in a coherent, concise and unified way the main results from functional analysis together with the main results from the theory of partial differential equations (PDEs). Although there are many books on functional analysis and many on PDEs, this is the first to cover both of these closely connected topics. Since the French book was first published, it has been translated into Spanish, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Romanian, Greek and Chinese. The English edition makes a welcome addition to this list.
Book Synopsis Quantized Partial Differential Equations by : Agostino Prastaro
Download or read book Quantized Partial Differential Equations written by Agostino Prastaro and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2004 with total page 500 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents, for the first time, a systematic formulation ofthe geometric theory of noncommutative PDE''s which is suitable enoughto be used for a mathematical description of quantum dynamics andquantum field theory. A geometric theory of supersymmetric quantumPDE''s is also considered, in order to describe quantumsupergravity. Covariant and canonical quantizations of (super) PDE''sare shown to be founded on the geometric theory of PDE''s and toproduce quantum (super) PDE''s by means of functors from the categoryof commutative (super) PDE''s to the category of quantum (super)PDE''s. Global properties of solutions to (super) (commutative) PDE''sare obtained by means of their integral bordism groups.

Book Synopsis Blow-up Theories for Semilinear Parabolic Equations by : Bei Hu
Download or read book Blow-up Theories for Semilinear Parabolic Equations written by Bei Hu and published by Springer. This book was released on 2011-03-17 with total page 137 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is an enormous amount of work in the literature about the blow-up behavior of evolution equations. It is our intention to introduce the theory by emphasizing the methods while seeking to avoid massive technical computations. To reach this goal, we use the simplest equation to illustrate the methods; these methods very often apply to more general equations.
Book Synopsis Dynamical Systems and Probabilistic Methods in Partial Differential Equations by : Percy Deift
Download or read book Dynamical Systems and Probabilistic Methods in Partial Differential Equations written by Percy Deift and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1996 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains some of the lectures presented in June 1994 during the AMS-SIAM Summer Seminar at the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute in Berkeley. The goal of the seminar was to introduce participants to as many interesting and active applications of dynamical systems and probabilistic methods to problems in applied mathematics as possible. As a result, this book covers a great deal of ground. Nevertheless, the pedagogical orientation of the lectures has been retained, and therefore the book will serve as an ideal introduction to these varied and interesting topics.

The authors are some of the most well-known mathematicians in this innovative field, which is presently undergoing rapid development. The intended audience includes experts in elliptic and parabolic equations who are interested in extending their expertise to the nonlinear setting, as well as Ph.D. or postdoctoral students who want to enter into the most promising research topics in the field.
Book Synopsis Finite Difference Methods for Ordinary and Partial Differential Equations by : Randall J. LeVeque
Download or read book Finite Difference Methods for Ordinary and Partial Differential Equations written by Randall J. LeVeque and published by SIAM. This book was released on 2007-01-01 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces finite difference methods for both ordinary differential equations (ODEs) and partial differential equations (PDEs) and discusses the similarities and differences between algorithm design and stability analysis for different types of equations. A unified view of stability theory for ODEs and PDEs is presented, and the interplay between ODE and PDE analysis is stressed. The text emphasizes standard classical methods, but several newer approaches also are introduced and are described in the context of simple motivating examples.

Book Synopsis Partial Differential Equations in Action by : Sandro Salsa
Download or read book Partial Differential Equations in Action written by Sandro Salsa and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-04-24 with total page 714 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is intended as an advanced undergraduate or first-year graduate course for students from various disciplines, including applied mathematics, physics and engineering. It has evolved from courses offered on partial differential equations (PDEs) over the last several years at the Politecnico di Milano. These courses had a twofold purpose: on the one hand, to teach students to appreciate the interplay between theory and modeling in problems arising in the applied sciences, and on the other to provide them with a solid theoretical background in numerical methods, such as finite elements. Accordingly, this textbook is divided into two parts. The first part, chapters 2 to 5, is more elementary in nature and focuses on developing and studying basic problems from the macro-areas of diffusion, propagation and transport, waves and vibrations. In turn the second part, chapters 6 to 11, concentrates on the development of Hilbert spaces methods for the variational formulation and the analysis of (mainly) linear boundary and initial-boundary value problems.
Book Synopsis Partial Differential Equations and Boundary-Value Problems with Applications by : Mark A. Pinsky
Download or read book Partial Differential Equations and Boundary-Value Problems with Applications written by Mark A. Pinsky and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2011 with total page 545 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Building on the basic techniques of separation of variables and Fourier series, the book presents the solution of boundary-value problems for basic partial differential equations: the heat equation, wave equation, and Laplace equation, considered in various standard coordinate systems--rectangular, cylindrical, and spherical. Each of the equations is derived in the three-dimensional context; the solutions are organized according to the geometry of the coordinate system, which makes the mathematics especially transparent. Bessel and Legendre functions are studied and used whenever appropriate throughout the text. The notions of steady-state solution of closely related stationary solutions are developed for the heat equation; applications to the study of heat flow in the earth are presented. The problem of the vibrating string is studied in detail both in the Fourier transform setting and from the viewpoint of the explicit representation (d'Alembert formula). Additional chapters include the numerical analysis of solutions and the method of Green's functions for solutions of partial differential equations. The exposition also includes asymptotic methods (Laplace transform and stationary phase). With more than 200 working examples and 700 exercises (more than 450 with answers), the book is suitable for an undergraduate course in partial differential equations.
