Book Synopsis The Hydraulic Transport and Storage of Extractive Waste by : Mike Cambridge
Download or read book The Hydraulic Transport and Storage of Extractive Waste written by Mike Cambridge and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-01-18 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers the guidelines on long-term confinement of fine particulate waste products in a safe and environmentally acceptable location. It seeks to present the state of the art, drawing on combined experience from within the European Union (EU), on good international practice where relevant and on lessons learnt from recent untoward incidents. These guidelines have been developed in parallel with the development of the European Standard on Earthworks (prEN 16907) and the contents have been influenced by the well-publicised need for guidance to all stakeholders on both technical and regulatory aspects of the permitting, design and construction of extractive waste facilities in Europe. The Extractive Waste Directive (EWD) imposes a duty on all operators and regulators to ensure the competent design, operation and closure of such facilities. However, though some guidance has been published on a limited number of related technical elements, the relevance of these contributions has been diminished by the lack of an integrated approach. It is now evident to both regulatory bodies and operators alike that a unified and comprehensive document providing guidance to all stakeholders is required if the future of mining within the EU is to be assured and further untoward incidents avoided. These guidelines seek to address all technical stages of the development of a hydraulic fill project in the context of the EWD, with an emphasis on waste and facility characterisation and on the risk-based assessments which underwrite them. They are intended for use by all stakeholders involved in those European industries which involve the generation, transport and storage of fine particulate waste products requiring long-term confinement in a safe, stable and environmentally acceptable location.

Book Synopsis Non-destructive Materials Characterization and Evaluation by : Walter Arnold
Download or read book Non-destructive Materials Characterization and Evaluation written by Walter Arnold and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-07-07 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is devoted to non-destructive materials characterization (NDMC) using different non-destructive evaluation techniques. It presents theoretical basis, physical understanding, and technological developments in the field of NDMC with suitable examples for engineering and materials science applications. It is written for engineers and researchers in R&D, design, production, quality assurance, and non-destructive testing and evaluation. The relevance of NDMC is to achieve higher reliability, safety, and productivity for monitoring production processes and also for in-service inspections for detection of degradations, which are often precursors of macro-defects and failure of components. Ultrasonic, magnetic, electromagnetic and X-rays based NDMC techniques are discussed in detail with brief discussions on electron and positron based techniques.

Book Synopsis Handbook of Research on Advancements in the Processing, Characterization, and Application of Lightweight Materials by : Kumar, Kaushik
Download or read book Handbook of Research on Advancements in the Processing, Characterization, and Application of Lightweight Materials written by Kumar, Kaushik and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2021-11-19 with total page 458 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the automotive industry, the need to reduce vehicle weight has given rise to extensive research efforts to develop aluminum and magnesium alloys for structural car body parts. In aerospace, the move toward composite airframe structures urged an increased use of formable titanium alloys. In steel research, there are ongoing efforts to design novel damage-controlled forming processes for a new generation of efficient and reliable lightweight steel components. All these materials, and more, constitute today’s research mission for lightweight structures. They provide a fertile materials science research field aiming to achieve a better understanding of the interplay between industrial processing, microstructure development, and the resulting material properties. The Handbook of Research on Advancements in the Processing, Characterization, and Application of Lightweight Materials provides the recent advancements in the lightweight mat materials processing, manufacturing, and characterization. This book identifies the need for modern tools and techniques for designing lightweight materials and addresses multidisciplinary approaches for applying their use. Covering topics such as numerical optimization, fatigue characterization, and process evaluation, this text is an essential resource for materials engineers, manufacturers, practitioners, engineers, academicians, chief research officers, researchers, students, and vice presidents of research in government, industry, and academia.
Book Synopsis X-Ray Diffraction by Polycrystalline Materials by : René Guinebretière
Download or read book X-Ray Diffraction by Polycrystalline Materials written by René Guinebretière and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-03-01 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a physical approach to the diffraction phenomenon and its applications in materials science. An historical background to the discovery of X-ray diffraction is first outlined. Next, Part 1 gives a description of the physical phenomenon of X-ray diffraction on perfect and imperfect crystals. Part 2 then provides a detailed analysis of the instruments used for the characterization of powdered materials or thin films. The description of the processing of measured signals and their results is also covered, as are recent developments relating to quantitative microstructural analysis of powders or epitaxial thin films on the basis of X-ray diffraction. Given the comprehensive coverage offered by this title, anyone involved in the field of X-ray diffraction and its applications will find this of great use.
Book Synopsis Diffraction Analysis of the Microstructure of Materials by : Eric J. Mittemeijer
Download or read book Diffraction Analysis of the Microstructure of Materials written by Eric J. Mittemeijer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-21 with total page 557 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Overview of diffraction methods applied to the analysis of the microstructure of materials. Since crystallite size and the presence of lattice defects have a decisive influence on the properties of many engineering materials, information about this microstructure is of vital importance in developing and assessing materials for practical applications. The most powerful and usually non-destructive evaluation techniques available are X-ray and neutron diffraction. The book details, among other things, diffraction-line broadening methods for determining crystallite size and atomic-scale strain due, e.g. to dislocations, and methods for the analysis of residual (macroscale) stress. The book assumes only a basic knowledge of solid-state physics and supplies readers sufficient information to apply the methods themselves.
