Book Synopsis No Process...no Promise! by : Deborah Cofer
Download or read book No Process...no Promise! written by Deborah Cofer and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2004-12 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Ye though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death...I will fear no evil, for thou art with me." (Psalm 23) When Deborah Cofer began her spiritual journey three years ago, she went in search of fulfillment and in the process, found God. She believes that "Without Him I would never have made it through the insurmountable internal and external challenges I faced." Deborah's struggle was profound, and although NO PROCESS...NO PROMISE! is, at times, riviting, her journey of courage and determination will make you laugh, cry, and even shout as you move forward to enhance your own personal relationship with God. Having reached, what many call "the mountain top", she now shares her spiritual journey with the world, along with God's latest and greatest "Covenant" with mankind. NO PROCESS...NO PROMISE! will both inspire and motivate you to understand the high price everyone will pay for continuing to live outside of the "will of God".
Download or read book Stewardship written by Peter Block and published by Berrett-Koehler Publishers. This book was released on 2013-05-20 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the most provocative and revolutionary books written on leadership, business, and organizational design, Stewardship remains just as relevant, even twenty years later, to transforming our organizations for the common good of the wider community. We still face the challenge of fostering ownership and accountability throughout our organizations. Despite all the evidence calling for profound change, most organizations still rely on patriarchy and control as their core form of governance. The result is that they stifle initiative and spirit and alienate people from the work they do. This in the face of an increasing need to find ways to be responsive to customers and the wider community. Peter Block insists that what is required is a dramatic shift in how we distribute power, privilege, and the control of money. “Stewardship,” he writes, “means giving people at the bottom and the boundaries of the organization choice over how to serve a customer, a citizen, a community. It is the willingness to be accountable for the well-being of the larger organization by operating in service, rather than in control, of those around us.” Block has revised and updated the book throughout, including a new introduction addressing what has changed—and what hasn't—in the twenty years since the book was published and a new chapter on applying stewardship to the common good of the wider community. He covers both the theory of stewardship (in particular how it ameliorates the shortcomings of traditional leadership) and the practice (how it transforms every function and department for the better). And he offers tactical advice as well on gearing up to implement these reforms.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Boy, has this been one heck of a spiritual journey! Little did I know that the path leading to the Kingdom of God would take me into and through the bowels of hell, but I made it.there and back. All I can say is thank God for God, His goodness, grace and mercy." -From the Introduction to "High Yellow".But A Black Woman Forever More! A Poetic Anthology of a Spiritual Journey It is said that to know one's self is the key to reaching new horizons and maximizing human potential-and it's true. But, truly knowing one's self without knowing one's spiritual identity is akin to a person who is physically blind driving a car. It's absolutely impossible. In "High Yellow".But A Black Woman Forever More! A Poetic Anthology of a Spiritual Journey, author Deborah M. Cofer highlights her efforts and sacrifices as she explores her inner self, others, and the world around her. Every poem is its own unique story of "bringing to the surface, hashing out, understanding, and making peace with" struggle in order to arrive at new heights in her evolution, both as a woman and as a member of the human race. Cofer's poetic accounts are both powerful and deeply profound.

Book Synopsis 12 Pillars of Manhood by : William Green
Download or read book 12 Pillars of Manhood written by William Green and published by Covenant Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2018-12-19 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Twelve Pillars of Manhood: A Vision that Honors God is the result of the author's life journey viewing community and family through the lens of the Word of God applied to real world situations. It argues that what ails our country and communities is the need for stronger families led by stronger men. But the book also provides guidance for women raising boys to manhood, drawing on the author's own experiences of being raised in large part by a single mother. The Twelve Pillars begin with the premise of honoring God. The remainder of the book's principles follow and develop this premise in its various contexts, worship and prayer, discipleship, stewardship, leadership, and resisting temptation. The book chronicles the author's journey into Christian manhood. This journey takes the author through a world in desperate need of the very Christian principles it fights against. The Twelve Pillars is a celebration of who God has called each of us to be. More importantly, the Twelve Pillars is a battle plan of how to challenge our boys and men to a higher level of maturity, to lead more effectively, and to love more fully, living out God's purpose for their lives.
Book Synopsis Merit Aid and the Politics of Education by : Erik C. Ness
Download or read book Merit Aid and the Politics of Education written by Erik C. Ness and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2007-11-13 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While a substantial number of studies have evaluated the effects of merit aid programs, there is a surprising lack of any systematic consideration of how states determine eligibility criteria for these scholarships. The selectivity of merit aid eligibility criteria can be as important as whether or not such programs are adopted. If, for example, merit aid programs have broad, easily-attained initial eligibility criteria, then a large proportion of high school graduates, including low-income and under-represented students, will gain eligibility. On the other hand, if the criteria are more rigorous, then a smaller proportion of students, likely those already planning to attend and with the means to afford college, will be eligible. Thus, this innovative book - the first to deepen the descriptive and conceptual understanding of the process by which states determine merit aid scholarship criteria - is crucial to understanding merit aid's success and failures at fulfilling the promise of education.

Download or read book Covenants of Life written by K.L. Vaux and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2002-12-31 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume captures a unique exchange between Paul Ramsey and his most prominent colleagues. In one sense it remains a Festschrift in his honor, characterized, at times, by a markedly informal tone. Yet, in the spirit of both the analytical rigor and the self-exposure that marked Ramsey's career, this volume is not simply a tribute to Ramsey's lifework but rather a vehicle for intense conversation and argument about issues of human birth, life, suffering, and death. The editors see it as a state of the art discussion that brings the best insights from Judeo-Christian thought into contact with wider and more public arenas of medical ethics. Of course, such a collection as this grants Ramsey the permission to have the last word. But this final word is entrusted to a mature and remarkably open mind, still sharpening its critical skills and risking exposure to new issues and voices.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Beyond Permanence: The Great Ideas of the West covers the full range of Western thought. Th e fi rst part reviews Western thought from its earliest beginnings in the civilization of Sumer through the philosophy of Hegel. After Sumer, it covers Egypt, Judaism, Classical philosophy focusing on Plato and Aristotle, Christianity and the Gnostics, the medieval church and the mystics, and the fi nal attempt by philosophers like Rene Descartes and Immanuel Kant to “pin down” the world in a comprehensive philosophy. Th e aim was permanence of explanation describing a world of permanence whose actions refl ected the essential nature of its constituents. Th e second part moves into the modern age with the new physics and biology and the philosophies of William James and Alfred North Whitehead. It shows, for example, how the mind is not the permanent soul, but is rather the manifestation of the body, particularly the brain. Th rough the work of John Dewey and others, it outlines a new activism whereby people don’t accept society as a permanent order, but think of it as constantly subject to improvement. We are not “in” society, but society is in us, and is open to our needs and desires.
