Book Synopsis No More Theories Please! by : L. K. Masao
Download or read book No More Theories Please! written by L. K. Masao and published by R&L Education. This book was released on 2009-01-16 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: No More Theories Please!: A Guide for Elementary Teachers is a classroom management guide for current and prospective elementary classroom teachers. In the book Masao discuss the 3 Rs of management—rules, routines, and reinforcement—as well as behavior management plans and organization. Some chapters provide templates of management systems that the author created and implemented successfully in her own classroom. Unlike many other education texts, this book does not speak in theoretical terms. Rather it provides a how-to guide that clearly defines each strategy and procedure. The book is divided into three sections: organization; routines, rules, and reinforcement; and classroom behavior management systems. Each section has three or four chapters and provides tangible and pragmatic steps that can be taken to create the structured environment desired. Masao writes with a conversational tone, guiding the reader through the process.

Book Synopsis Teaching with Purpose by : James D. Kirylo
Download or read book Teaching with Purpose written by James D. Kirylo and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2016-05-02 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For five days a week for approximately nine months out of the year totaling countless hours, teachers work with other people’s most treasured gifts—their children. That the teacher is the most important element in fostering an energetic, engaging, and inspiring classroom environment where authentic learning can unfold cannot be overstated. Indeed, it is the teacher who understands self or does not; it is the teacher who is prepared or is not; it is the teacher who has command of subject matter or does not; it is the teacher who inculcates in an appropriate way or does not; and, it is the teacher who is patient, understanding, empathetic, and enthusiastic or is not. To that end, Teaching With Purpose underscores what it means to be an insightful teacher, foundationally emphasizing that the central aspect toward richly transforming education is through the professionalization of what it means to be a teacher. Written in accessible language, and attentive to connecting theory to practice, the benefits and features of this book are mindful of a diverse readership.
Book Synopsis Analogous and Digital by : Otl Aicher
Download or read book Analogous and Digital written by Otl Aicher and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2015-04-27 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Otl Aicher (1922-1991) was an outstanding personality in modern design, he was a co-founder of the legendary Hochschule fur Gestaltung (HfG), the Ulm School of Design, Germany. His works since the fifties of the last century in the field of corporate design and his pictograms for the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich are major achievements in the visual communication of our times. "An integral component of Aicher's work is that it is anchored in a "philosophy of making" inspired by such thinkers as Ockham, Kant or Wittgenstein, a philosophy concerned with the prerequisites and aims, the objects and claims, of design. Aicher's complete theoretical and practical writings on design (which include all other aspects of visual creativity, such as architecture) are available with this new edition of the classic work. If Aicher prefers the analogous and concrete to the digital and abstract he does it with a philosophical intention. He relativizes the role of pure reason. He criticizes the rationality of Modernism as a result of the dominance of purely abstract thinking. Anyone who prefers the abstract to the concrete does not only misunderstand the mutual dependence of concept and view. In Aicher's judgement he is also creating a false hierarchy, a rank order that is culturally fatal. Things that are digital and abstract are not greater, higher and more important than things that are analogous and concrete." Wilhelm Vossenkuhl
Book Synopsis Murder in the Library by : Anita Davison
Download or read book Murder in the Library written by Anita Davison and published by Boldwood Books Ltd. This book was released on 2024-02-19 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A body in a hospital isn’t so unusual. Unless they’ve been murdered! 1916, London: Keen to support the war effort, bookshop manager and sometime amateur sleuth Hannah Merrill has taken a volunteer role in the library of the nearby military hospital. But arriving at the hospital one cold winter’s morning, she is horrified to find the body of a dead soldier in the library. What’s more, a beautiful young nurse confides in Hannah that she thinks she’s being followed, and then she abruptly disappears. Hannah can’t shake the suspicion that the two cases are connected, but she can’t solve the case alone. She’ll once again need to call upon her delightful, demanding, only-occasionally devious aunt, Violet. The two women know they must find the missing nurse before it’s too late... but they don’t realise they’re now both in the killer’s sights. A totally gripping, unputdownable, WW1-set, cozy mystery, perfect for fans of Helena Dixon, Verity Bright, and Agatha Christie. Readers love the Miss Merrill and Aunt Violet series: ‘Wonderful!! I had high hopes for this novel and it did not disappoint. Once I began I could hardly put it down. I am excited to read Ms. Davison’s next installment.’ Goodreads reviewer ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ ‘I couldn’t put this book down, I just wanted to keep reading. The story kept me guessing all the time and the ending was unexpected. Can’t wait for the next book.’ Goodreads reviewer ⭐⭐⭐⭐ ‘What a fabulous setting for a murder Aunt Violet's dusty bookshop is!... If I could have read it in one sitting, I would have done. A brilliant plot with some clever twists! I think I've found a new favourite series. I can’t wait for the next instalment. Highly recommended!’ Goodreads reviewer ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ ‘A fabulous historical novel that entertained me from the start... Reminiscent of Miss Jane Marple... I loved the inclusion of Bartleby, the bookshop cat who was very much a character in his own right.’ Goodreads reviewer ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ ‘I loved this book. Hannah and Aunt Violet are wonderful characters and I liked them from the start. The surrounding characters are well imagined. The setting is interesting. I enjoyed the references to literature and the way books were a part of the story line... Very entertaining and I highly recommend it.’ Goodreads reviewer ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ ‘Set against the backdrop of the war in 1915, with the very real fears of invasion and bombings, the characters are beautifully drawn, especially the wonderfully bold and rather scandalous suffragette Violet who carries a few secrets of her own and who I immediately loved. This is a great start to a new cosy crime series and I am looking forward to seeing what happens next to the amateur sleuths and their friends.’ Goodreads reviewer ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ ‘Fascinating characters, scandals, espionage and murder... Kept me turning the pages wanting to know what would happen to Hannah and her delightful feline companion.’ Goodreads reviewer ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ ‘I loved this delightful new cozy mystery featuring a young society girl and her suffragette aunt... 5 stars. I look forward to more in this series.’ Goodreads reviewer ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ ‘A compelling tale, full of red herrings, lost love, along with excellent research of the time period.’ Goodreads reviewer ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ ‘A very fun read! I can’t wait to read the next installment!’ Goodreads reviewer ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Download or read book No New Theories written by and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "No New Theories builds on Kameelah Janan Rasheed's accretive and associative installation work, bringing together xerox abstractions, poetic text fragments, and found as well as original photography to explore learning and unlearning as a spiritual, socio-political, ecological, and cognitive process. With No New Theories Rasheed freely assembles her own writing, autocorrect algorithms, and Oulipian poems (short texts generated with the help of imposed constraints) alongside visuals drawn from her personal image archive, pop culture, zoological journals, quranic verses, and other sources. The work gathers these threads with an emphasis on the processes of revision and improvisation as she considers the entropic potential of meaning in place of fixed definitions. At the heart of No New Theories is an expansive interview between Rasheed and Jessica Lynne, co-founder of the art criticism journal ARTS.BLACK. The conversation attempts to document their intellectual partnership, constructed through a layering process by which the original exchange is reworked and expanded with annotations, citations, and excerpted texts from writers Samuel R. Delany, Alexis Pauline Gumbs, Emily Dickinson, and others. Rasheed and Lynne take on questions of epistemology and pedagogy, the nature of research, knowledge-acquisition, as well as patience and fatigue. Building on the notion of the 'organic archive' -- both as a fictional organizing framework and as a score for possible experiences -- the two consider various historical, sociological, and cultural facets of Americana, proposing a multi-directional discourse around the wide permutations of Black experience. The book's title -- No New Theories -- locates Blackness as a multivalent and porous experience that cannot and should not be neatly theorized"--
Book Synopsis Theorizing Teaching by : Anna-Katharina Praetorius
Download or read book Theorizing Teaching written by Anna-Katharina Praetorius and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-03-11 with total page 365 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book seeks to create a forum for discussing key questions regarding theories on teaching: Which theories of teaching do we have? What are their attributes? What do they contain? How are they generated? How context-sensitive and content-specific do they need to be? Is it possible or even desirable to develop a comprehensive theory of teaching? The book identifies areas of convergence and divergence among the answers to these questions by prominent international scholars in research on teaching. Initiating exchanges among the authors, it then evaluates whether consensus can be reached on the areas of divergence. The book concludes by discussing lessons learned from this endeavor and outlines steps that need to be taken for advancing future work on theorizing teaching. As such, the book is aimed at readers interested in an overview of the theorizing of teaching and key open questions that, if addressed, help to move the field forward.
Book Synopsis Magick in Theory and Practice by : The Master Therion
Download or read book Magick in Theory and Practice written by The Master Therion and published by Library of Alexandria. This book was released on with total page 518 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: EXISTENCE, as we know it, is full of sorrow. To mention only one minor point: every man is a condemned criminal, only he does not know the date of his execution. This is unpleasant for every man. Consequently every man does everything possible to postpone the date, and would sacrifice anything that he has if he could reverse the sentence. Practically all religions and all philosophies have started thus crudely, by promising their adherents some such reward as immortality. No religion has failed hitherto by not promising enough; the present breaking up of all religions is due to the fact that people have asked to see the securities. Men have even renounced the important material advantages which a well-organized religion may confer upon a State, rather than acquiesce in fraud or falsehood, or even in any system which, if not proved guilty, is at least unable to demonstrate its innocence. Being more or less bankrupt, the best thing that we can do is to attack the problem afresh without preconceived ideas. Let us begin by doubting every statement. Let us find a way of subjecting every statement to the test of experiment. Is there any truth at all in the claims of various religions? Let us examine the question. Our original difficulty will be due to the enormous wealth of our material. To enter into a critical examination of all systems would be an unending task; the cloud of witnesses is too great. Now each religion is equally positive; and each demands faith. This we refuse in the absence of positive proof. But we may usefully inquire whether there is not any one thing upon which all religions have agreed: for, if so, it seems possible that it may be worthy of really thorough consideration. It is certainly not to be found in dogma. Even so simple an idea as that of a supreme and eternal being is denied by a third of the human race. Legends of miracle are perhaps universal, but these, in the absence of demonstrative proof, are repugnant to common sense. But what of the origin of religions? How is it that unproved assertion has so frequently compelled the assent of all classes of mankind? Is not this a miracle? There is, however, one form of miracle which certainly happens, the influence of the genius. There is no known analogy in Nature. One cannot even think of a "super-dog" transforming the world of dogs, whereas in the history of mankind this happens with regularity and frequency. Now here are three "super-men," all at loggerheads. What is there in common between Christ, Buddha, and Mohammed?
