Book Synopsis No 5 The Birth of Motor Racing by : Nigel Mills
Download or read book No 5 The Birth of Motor Racing written by Nigel Mills and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2012-11-01 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The early days of motoring, together with the first motor sport events, are largely forgotten today. In order to breathe new life into that era and to link the historical events described, the central characters in this book are fictitious creations. The parts they enact in the story though are those of the real people who participated in the actual events that have all been carefully researched. The main events covered are the 1895 Paris-Bordeaux-Paris race, the 1896 Paris-Marseilles-Paris race, the Tunbridge Wells Show and the activities of Harry Lawson. The author believes that by taking these few liberties with a few names and by using the artifice of fictional linking, he is able to introduce a wider audience to the history being enacted on those quiet open roads at the dawn of motoring. Levassor's epic two day drive, the city to city races and other events described here are some of the most momentous motoring achievements to have ever taken place. 36 Illustrations

Download or read book Racing Colours written by Simon Owen and published by Veloce Publishing. This book was released on 2014-11-01 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "In many respects it is a book unlike many others. It is an individual, as all good books should be. It is quirky, eclectic, eccentric even, but in a world intent on reproducing that which has already been regurgitated I personally felt the need for something a bit more idiosyncratic, I can only hope that you agree!" - Simon Owen A well known artist specialising in racing car subjects, the late Simon Owen's detailed, expertly executed work conveys the life, vibrancy, the essence and passion of motorsports and racing cars, like no other. From his often small watercolors, rich in color and tone, to digital art and composition, Simon's work is a visual feast for lovers of automotive art and motorsport. Over the last few years, Simon had worked on developing a series of computer-generated images, focussing on individual racing cars and their liveries. Seventy seven of these images have been compiled to create this stunning book, and each is presented with a relevant quote from a legend of the motor racing world. Along with these digital artworks, this book represents a chance to gain a rare peek into the artist's working methods, revealing some of his developmental working methods and showing how the digital images were constructed.
Book Synopsis The Fairmount Park Motor Races, 1908-1911 by : Michael J. Seneca
Download or read book The Fairmount Park Motor Races, 1908-1911 written by Michael J. Seneca and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2003-01-01 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For four years, early in the last century, the Fairmount Park Motor Races were run on an eight-mile course in Philadelphia's West Fairmount Park. They drew half a million spectators the first year, but surprisingly they have been overlooked as part of automobile racing history and as part of the history of Philadelphia. In contrast to other racing events, such as the Vanderbilt Cup, there were never any serious injuries and not a single death, but after four years of spectacular racing, the event was banned, with safety concerns cited. Opening with a brief look at automobile racing prior to 1908, the book covers the events leading up to the first race. It discusses the proposal to have a race in Fairmount Park and the reasons why Philadelphia, and the park in particular, was such an unlikely place. Both the on-track action of the races and the off-track events that affected them are described. Dr. J. William White's successful crusade, following the 1911 outing, to stop the races is examined, as are attempts to revive the race in the following six years, including Philadelphia's attempt to compete with Indianapolis by constructing a two-mile oval speedway, and the city's eventual exit from automobile racing.

Book Synopsis Ten Years Of Motors And Motor Racing by : Charles Jarrott
Download or read book Ten Years Of Motors And Motor Racing written by Charles Jarrott and published by Edizioni Savine. This book was released on 2014-01-10 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “ ...When the idea of this book was first suggested to me, although I had no misgivings as to the interest of its subject for myself and those immediately concerned, I had some misgiving as to my ability to make it interesting to the general reader. I may say that this misgiving is by no means abated now that I see the finished result of my labours. But I felt a very earnest wish, which will be understood by those who have ever been in the thick of any exciting or momentous experience, to preserve, if only for my own satisfaction, some record of the early days of the motor-car in England and my own experiences in connection therewith, and to reconstruct some of the events of those exciting days before my impression of them should become blurred. In this way my book may perhaps come some day to have an interest of its own, when the world shall have forgotten that the thing we call the Motor Movement ever had a beginning ...” Charles Jarrott - September, 1906. (Charles Jarrott was an English racing car driver. He won the 1902 Circuit des Ardennes race and competed in the 1903 and 1904 Gordon Bennett Cup races.)
