Book excerpt: Master's Thesis from the year 2012 in the subject Politics - Region: Other States, grade: None, Xiamen University (Research School of South-east Asian Studies), course: International Relations, language: English, abstract: This paper examines China-Nigeria economic-political relations. On February 10, 1971 a historical stage was set between China and Nigeria, one of not only bilateral relations but of mutual respect for each other. Although this relationship dates back to more than three decades, recent developments call for a careful and detailed analysis of this union and to this end, i seek to provide analysis of the relationship with respect to investment, trade, aid, and economic cooperation. Recent developments in China and Nigeria relationship are not unconnected with the renewed ties between the two giants as Nigeria has become one of China's most important trading partners in Africa. The contemporary waves of diplomatic relations appear to a reasonable extent mutually beneficial. Nigeria’s quest for development with an aggressive campaign for FDI as one of the motivating forces has opened the economy which China is seen as an ideal business partner. Accordingly, this paper, through a critical review of the literature examines, and evaluates the opportunities and challenges abound in the nascent economic and trade relationships, and discusses the prospects of the deals for the Chinese, Nigerian, and African socio-economic growth. Key words: China, Nigeria, Economic-Political Relations, Trade, FDI

Book excerpt: South-South Co-operation: A Case Study of Indo-Nigerian Economic Relations work, presents the trends and pattern of Indo-Nigerian economic relations during the period 1960 to 1995, in the context of South-South Co-operation. While examining the gamut of the economic relationship between the two countries during the aforementioned period, theoretical analyses, as well as quantitative aspects of the subject were attempted. The exercise revealed the changing pattern and composition of Indo-Nigerian trade, and the growth trends in South-South economic and trade relations. Given the dearth of well researched information on the nature and trends of Inso-Nigerian economic relations, this contribution will be a valuable addition to the arsenal of those interested in Indo-Nigerian economic diplomacy; scholars as well as those who are interested in Indo-Nigerian economic diplomacy; scholars, as well as those who are interested in economic co-operation among developing countries. The value of the suggestions made in this book is not limited to Nigeria, bit extends to all the developing countries whose economies are similarly skewed.

Book excerpt: Since its emergence in 1960 as an independent state, Nigeria has stood out as the most populous Black country in the world. In Africa’s International Relations in a Globalising World: Perspectives on Nigerian Foreign Policy at Sixty and Beyond, edited by Usman A. Tar and Sharkdam Wapmuk, contributors examine Nigeria’s role within Africa, as well as internationally. This book shows how Nigeria has used the platforms of international organisations to advance its interests while fulfilling its regional and global obligations. The contributors address areas such as Nigeria’s economic development and policies, Nigeria’s relationship with other countries, and the urgent challenge of countering terrorism in the context of ensuring sustainable development. The COVID-19 pandemic brought to the fore the need for strong global relations and reminded humanity of the importance of multilateral solutions to global problems such as health. The editors and contributors address essential questions such as how well has Nigerian foreign policy and its practice of diplomacy served national interest, and what more needs to be done to assure of better results now and into the future.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about Nigeria - China Economic and Development Relations, most especially the strategies adopted by the two countries. It has highlighted the effects of globalization on the two state relations. The submission is that Nigeria needs China to overcome her backwardness especially in science and technology. The Nigerian state need to curb corruption and encourage good governance in all ramifications. Without good leadership and followership the latent energy in the Nigerian national population will remain dormant. Nigerian leaders need to follow the example of China in the area of transformation of local technology and raw materials into an enviable product. Without these, Nigeria as a state within the international system may not be able to capture the attention of global trade. Unlike China who has remerged as a global leading economy, Nigeria is still beset with internal crises, therefore government need to put her domestic crises in order for economic development to appreciate.
