This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 315 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Isoquinolines form one of the largest groups of plant alkaloids and they in clude a number of valuable clinical agents such as codeine, morphine, eme tine and tubocurarine. Research into different aspects of isoquinolines con tinues in profusion, attracting the talents of botanists, chemists, bioche mists, analysts, pharmacists and pharmacologists. Many of these aspects are of an interdisciplinary nature, and in April 1984, The Phytochemical Society of Europe arranged a 3-day symposium on The Chemistry and Bi ology of Isoquinoline Alkaloids in order to provide a forum for scientists of differing disciplines who are united by a common interest in this one class of natural product. Each chapter in this volume is based on a lecture given at this symposium. Attempts have been made to make the aims and objectives, experimental findings and conclusions reached, intelligible to scientists of differing backgrounds. The introductory chapter, which is mainly based on a historical discus sion, stresses that plants containing isoquinolines have proved to be both a boon and a curse to mankind. The Opium Poppy, Papaver somniferum, produces the medicinally used alkaloids morphine, codeine, noscapine and papaverine whilst it also continues to provide drugs of abuse, particularly morphine and its readily prepared O,O-diacetyl derivative, heroin. Numer ous other alkaloids have been isolated from other members of the Papaver acea, and a knowledge of their presence and distribution within the various species has proved a useful adjunct to systematic botanical studies.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Organic synthesis, with the invention of new synthetic strategies and technologies, has evolved from largely empirical approaches for the preparation of relatively simple molecules to sophisticated strategies for the construction of molecules with considerable structural and functional complexity. Organic synthesis is employed to synthesize the natural product and its analogs for the discovery of new drugs. The development of new synthetic methodologies in the course of total synthesis is imperative for the efficient synthesis of drug candidates. Apart from the practical applications, the pursuit of efficient syntheses of complex natural products is both gratifying and truly enjoyable. Chapter One describes the development of annulation reaction for the construction of five-, six- and seven- membered rings. Chapter Two describes a direct approach to the synthesis of methyllycaconitine, a representative of the aconitine alkaloids. The numbering of the compounds, schemes and references are independent in each section.
Book Synopsis Synthetic Methods in Drug Discovery by : David C. Blakemore
Download or read book Synthetic Methods in Drug Discovery written by David C. Blakemore and published by Royal Society of Chemistry. This book was released on 2016 with total page 474 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The number of available synthetic methods can be overwhelming. In order to create novel motifs and templates which confer new and potentially valuable drug-like properties, it is important to know which synthetic methodologies will give the best results. Similarly, which methodologies are used to progress potential drug candidates from leads through the development process? What are the current industrial research problems and how can they be resolved in an industrial setting? This book highlights key methods that have real impact in drug discovery and facilitate delivery of drug molecules. Synthetic Methods in Drug Discovery Volume 1 focuses on the hugely important area of transition metal mediated methods used in industry. Current methods of importance such as the Suzuki-Miyaura coupling, Buchwald-Hartwig couplings and CH activation are discussed. In addition, exciting emerging areas such as decarboxylative coupling, and the uses of iron and nickel in coupling reactions are also covered. This book provides both academic and industrial perspectives on some key reactions giving the reader an excellent overview of the techniques used in modern synthesis. Reaction types are conveniently framed in the context of their value to industry and the challenges and limitations of methodologies are discussed with relevant illustrative examples. Edited and authored by leading scientists from both academia and industry, this book will be a valuable reference for all chemists involved in drug discovery as well as postgraduate students in medicinal chemistry.

Book Synopsis The Way of Synthesis by : Tomas Hudlicky
Download or read book The Way of Synthesis written by Tomas Hudlicky and published by Wiley-VCH. This book was released on 2007-09-04 with total page 1032 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This two-colored textbook presents not only synthetic ways to design organic compounds, it also contains a compilation of the most important total synthesis of the last 50 years with a comparative view of multiple designs for the same targets. It explains different tactics and strategies, making it easy to apply to many problems, regardless of the synthetic question in hand. Following a historical view of the evolution of synthesis, the book goes on to look at principles and issues impacting synthesis and design as well as principles and issues of methods. The sections on comparative design cover classics in terpenes and alkaloid synthesis, while a further section covers such miscellaneous syntheses as Maytansine, Palytoxin, Brevetoxin B and Indinavir. The whole is rounded off with a look at future perspectives and, what makes this textbook extraordinairy, with personal recollections of the chemists, who synthesized these fascinating compounds. With its attractive layout highlighting key parts and tactics using a second color, this is a useful tool for organic chemists, lecturers and students in chemistry, as well as those working in the chemical industry. "I think, as will many organic chemists, that the Hudlicky book will be the Bible of synthetic organic chemistry, the past, the present and the future. A hallmark publication." (Victor Snieckus)

Book Synopsis Development of New Synthetic Approaches towards the Anthraquinone-Xanthone Heterodimeric Structure of Beticolin 0 by : Janina Beck
Download or read book Development of New Synthetic Approaches towards the Anthraquinone-Xanthone Heterodimeric Structure of Beticolin 0 written by Janina Beck and published by Logos Verlag Berlin GmbH. This book was released on 2020-09-15 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mycotoxins are fungal secondary metabolites exhibiting adverse effects on humans, animals as well as crops, resulting in diseases and economic loss. Beticolins are mycotoxins produced by the fungus Cercospora beticola which is responsible for cercosporiosis, commonly known as leaf spot disease, causing heavy damages to crops worldwide. In order to study the mechanism of action of these biologically active compounds, this thesis aimed at the development of synthetic approaches towards the highly complex polycyclic scaffold of beticolins. Beticolins consist of a chlorinated tetrahydroxanthone linked to an anthraquinone subunit via a unique bicyclo[3.2.2]nonane ring system. A facile route towards naphthoquinone derivatives and subsequent Diels-Alder cycloadditions with functionalized dienes afforded a highly functionalized anthraquinone subunit of beticolin 0. For the installation of a tetrahydroxanthone subunit, a synthetic route was elaborated. With the obtained anthraquinone derivatives intramolecular couplings were performed under different conditions, to facilitate the construction of the bicyclo[3.2.2]nonane ring system. The formation of the desired scaffold turned out to be challenging, however a variety of novel bicyclo[3.3.1]systems was obtained, representing interesting scaffolds. During a research stay at the University of Copenhagen, the functionalization of helical beta-peptoids was examined. Peptidomimetics adopting three-dimensional structures with well-defined display of functional groups while being resistant to proteolysis, are of interest for the development of foldamers with a desired function.
