This book was released on 1973 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally pub. in 1973; reprinted in 1994. Presents tables giving the dates of all new and full moons during an historical era when these data were of considerable interest and importance. The longitudes of the moon at each of these times is also given, as is a consecutive enumeration of the conjunctions and a similar one of the oppositions. All dates are reckoned in the Julian calendar. These dates and times are calculated for an observer in Babylon, or equivalently Baghdad, since this location is fairly centrally located for the historians of the period. The time used is civil time and is based on a 24-hour clock with its origin at midnight. Since this vol. may be considered as a suppl. to Tuckerman's tables, all fundamental astronomical elements have been taken from them.

With that promise came a great love for God's prophetic word. The teaching of the Holy Spirit began with an understanding of the prophecies of Daniel, the key to understanding the words of many of the other prophets, especially those of Zachariah and those of John in the book of Revelation. Here are just a few of the many mysteries of prophecy revealed in The Mystery of Prophecy: The Secrets of Daniel that were revealed to Harlan by the Holy Spirit through those years: - The time of the Rapture within the schedule of events of the coming days - The marvelous truth of the days of 1335, the beginning of birth pangs of the rebirth of the nation of Israel. - The real identity of the infamous head of the beast that was wounded unto death by the sword. - Proof that the Antichrist will not rule the world. - The key to the mystery of Babylon the Great and the scarlet-colored beast she rides. - The origin of the Antichrist. - The true purpose for the existence of the Red Dragon with seven heads and ten horns. - A complete interpretation of the Beast from the Sea with its seven heads and ten horns. - The exact date of the crucifixion of Jesus. - The exact day of Artaxerxes's command to restore and to build Jerusalem. - The very place where Israel was to flee for the 1,260 days of protection. - Revealing of the identity of the coming King of the North. - The event that begins the 2300 evenings and mornings. - Why God sealed the book of Daniel.

This book was released on 1990 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The need for these tables became pressing when hundreds of astronomical cuneiform tables in the British Museum became available for study, partly through the copies made in the 1880s and 1890s. All these texts originally came from some archive in Babylon which was discovered by Arabs in the middle of the 19th century. Most of the texts were written from about 330 B.C. to the first century A.D. Many of the texts are fragments of the original clay tables which have broken. In many cases, a fragment contains only parts of a few legible lines. Much of the information is of an astronomical character. It is evident that for investigations of these tablets the possibility of rapid scanning of accurately dated planetary positions is of primary importance.

Book excerpt: "Science in the Archives" reveals affinities and continuities among the sciences of the archives, across many disciplines and centuries, in order to present a better picture of essential archival practices and, thereby, the meaning of science. For in both the natural and human sciences, archives of the most diverse forms make cumulative, collective knowledge possible. Yet in contrast to laboratories, observatories, or the field, archives have yet to be studied across the board as central sites of science. The volume covers episodes in the history of astronomy, geology, genetics, classical philology, climatology, history, medicine, and ancient natural philosophy, as well as fundamental practices such as collecting, retrieval strategies, and data mining. The time frame spans doxology in Greco-Roman antiquity to NSA surveillance techniques and the quantified-self movement. Each chapter explores the practices, politics, economics, and open-ended potential of the sciences of the archives, making this the first book devoted to the role of archives in the natural and human sciences.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Riesner recognizes a problem in the chronologies proposed in the literature he surveys: often one or two 'absolute dates' are given, and the rest of the chronological details follow from those few established dates. In the next section Riesner seeks to go point-by-point through a chronology of the early ministry of Paul, discussion the evidence at each point for particular events in Paul's life and ministry. He is wary not to merely fit a date into a chronological scheme without providing good support for that date independent of other chronological markers (if possible). Riesner interacts with both conservative and non-conservative literature. The bibliography is massive (80 pages, with approximately 30 sources per page!), and footnotes in the volume indicate that Riesner is, indeed, familiar with the literature.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Second Edition 2024 This book explains why the UK tax year begins on 6 April and traces the history of the old tax year which ran from 25 March. It also covers other aspects of calendar history and related issues, including the continuing application of the 1750 British calendar reform statute to the USA and elsewhere. The move from the Julian to the Gregorian calendar in 1752 resulted in the omission of 11 days from September 1752. The omitted days were later added to the tax year and that apparently meant a new tax year beginning on 5 April - not 6 April. There are various explanations for the addition of a further day so the year began on 6 April, including the suggestion that a day was added in 1800. In fact the old tax year ran “from” 25 March and an ancient legal rule said “from” meant the year began on the following day, 26 March. Hence adding 11 days to 26 March produced a new tax year beginning on 6 April. It is often said that the Treasury extended the tax year by 11 days to avoid losing money. This is untrue. The Second Edition revises and expands particularly the key explanation on the way the tax year changed.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Jesus Christ entered into the history of our world. Christianity, therefore, has historical basis. The backbone of history is chronology. Whereas history is a systematic account of events in relation to a nation, institution, science, or art; chronology is a science of time. It seeks to establish and arrange the dates of past events in their proper sequence. Thus chronology serves as a necessary framework upon which the events of history must be fitted. In this book (the author) attempts to establish certain fixed dates in our Lord's life." - Dr. Harold W. Hoehner. Dr. Hoehner has gathered a vast amount of data, both from Scripture and extrabiblical sources, to support his conclusions concerning key dates in the life of our Lord, among them: - The Date of Christ's Birth - The Commencement of Christ's Ministry - The Duration of Christ's Ministry - The Year of Christ's Crucifixion He carefully documents his position and compares the date available--including a study of Greek words, Roman law, and Jewish customs and prophecy.

Combining basic astronomy with archaeological and ethnological data, it presented a readable and entertaining synthesis of all that was known of ancient astronomy in the western hemisphere as of 1980. In this revised edition, Anthony Aveni draws on his own and others' discoveries of the past twenty years to bring the Skywatchers story up to the present. He offers new data and interpretations in many areas, including: The study of Mesoamerican time and calendrical systems and their unprecedented continuity in contemporary Mesoamerican culture The connections between Precolumbian religion, astrology, and scientific, quantitative astronomy The relationship between Highland Mexico and the world of the Maya and the state of Pan-American scientific practices The use of personal computer software for computing astronomical data With this updated information, Skywatchers will serve a new generation of general and scholarly readers and will be useful in courses on archaeoastronomy, astronomy, history of astronomy, history of science, anthropology, archaeology, and world religions.

Book excerpt: This title was first published in 2002: Before the introduction of Greco-Arabic mathematical astronomy in the 12th century, what astronomy was there in the medieval West? While we know of developments in computus, which calculated with solar and lunar cycles to create Christian calendars, and in monastic time-telling by the stars, was anything known of the five planets? Using glosses, commentaries, and diagrams to the early manuscripts of four classical Latin authors - Pliny, Macrobius, Martianus Capella, and Calcidius - Bruce Eastwood provides evidence for the extensive development of the sixth liberal art, astronomy, from the time of Charlemagne forward, with a particular focus on the diagrams used and invented by Carolingian and later scholars. Learning to understand the motions of planets in terms of spatial, or geometrical, arrangement, they mined these Roman writings for astronomical and cosmological doctrines, in the process not only absorbing but also creating models of planetary motions. What they accomplished over three centuries was to establish a basic set of models that showed the reasoned order of the planets in the heavens.
