Book Synopsis The Operation of Grace by : Gregory Wolfe
Download or read book The Operation of Grace written by Gregory Wolfe and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2015-10-27 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Operation of Grace collects a decade's worth of essays by Gregory Wolfe taken from the pages of Image, the literary journal he founded more than a quarter century ago. As he notes in the preface, his Image editorials, while they cover a wide range of topics, focus on the intersection of "art, faith, and mystery." Wolfe believes that art and religion, while hardly identical, offer illuminating analogies to one another--art deepening faith through the empathetic reach of the imagination and faith anchoring art in a vision beyond the artist's ego. Several essays dwell on how aesthetic values like ambiguity, tragedy, and beauty enlarge our understanding of the spiritual life. There are also a series of reflections that extend Wolfe's campaign to renew the neglected and often misunderstood tradition of Christian humanism. Finally, there are sections that contain more personal meditations arising from Wolfe's involvement in nurturing and promoting the work of emerging writers and artists. The Operation of Grace demonstrates once again why novelist Ron Hansen has spoken of Wolfe as "one of the most incisive and persuasive voices of our generation." .embed-container { position: relative; padding-bottom: 56.25%; height: 0; overflow: hidden; max-width: 100%; } .embed-container iframe, .embed-container object, .embed-container embed { position: absolute; top: 0; left: 0; width: 100%; height: 100%; }

Book excerpt: This magical literature full of religious logic, metaphysical common sense, and supernatural wisdom has given way to a new astrological star chart reading fashioned formidably from a keyed up individuals molded mind, body, and soul all the while exposed to everyday occurrences such as light and dark, positive and negative, genetics and environment, ECT. Th e key used for utility coded in our modern day western zodiac, four basic elements, and three states confronts many everyday problems such as health, money, love, and self-defense in an importable composition for all to use. Can modern day literature do what the literature from our past has done? Th e overall Biblical character and feel consisting of many numbers combined with letters is very similar to our current Holy Scriptures and is here to help with economic and weather conditions. Th is coupled with scientifi c prediction in cognition helping to understand the immediate present by reviewing our past history by providing eff ective future caliber predictions on both micro and macro levels in our lifetimes through the areoles of time in universal form lending to Ages similar to time travel. Could philosophical genius occult practices be construed and accepted as more than dogmatic science fi ction and/or fantasy and on to fashioned fi ndings from omnipresent God and science itself? Why not let your qualities defi ne you whatever they are? A higher state of conciseness would be the calling on to uncharted places indeed! On to a more mentally focused atmosphere as opposed to the current physical realms is where the book takes us through its profound knowledge providing for a real time utopia! Th e precision of 1 and 365 odds (even more when factored with the eastern zodiac) combined with the generality of 365 to 1 is very enticing existing in a perfect state laying somewhere in the zodiacs twelve star signs using an ark key for utility coded within the four elements and three states! It makes us rethink all that we have learned in our educations rounding conspiracy theory by placing accepted God as more of a common factored force while not too sexual, accidental, and humane!
Download or read book Folly Monitor written by David Lynn and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2017-07-05 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Folly Monitor is essential for every Christian and all others who sincerely honor our heavenly Father and truly love the Messiah, our Risen Savior. So much of what you have been led to believe is, in actuality, folly and deception from the enemy. You owe it to yourself to allow the truths within this important book to expose the lies that have spread throughout our society and the world. Folly Monitor is a must read for every patriotic American who is passionate about our founding documents and the principles and values that make our nation uniquely precious. Every right-minded, constitutional, "Tea Party" conservative, who is devoted to integrity and truth, will be blown away by the deceptions exposed within the pages of this great book. Folly Monitor is a must read for such a time as this. Knowledge is power and the truth shall set you free. Discover how the systems and institutions that you have lived under for your entire life are not at all what you have been led to believe. You have been victimized by an intricate, devious structure of folly, lies and corruption. Folly Monitor's author is merely a humble servant of our Creator, our heavenly Father. The author's bio is insignificant in this epic battle between deception and truth, darkness and light. Satan knows that we are easily deceived. However, even in our transgressions, Father loves us. It is incumbent upon us to pursue truth and light, thereby overcoming folly and deception. The only One who is worthy of recognition is He who is Truth and Light, our loving Father. To Him be all praise and esteem.
Book Synopsis Rural Space in the Middle Ages and Early Modern Age by : Albrecht Classen
Download or read book Rural Space in the Middle Ages and Early Modern Age written by Albrecht Classen and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2012-05-29 with total page 932 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Older research on the premodern world limited its focus on the Church, the court, and, more recently, on urban space. The present volume invites readers to consider the meaning of rural space, both in light of ecocritical readings and social-historical approaches. While previous scholars examined the figure of the peasant in the premodern world, the current volume combines a large number of specialized studies that investigate how the natural environment and the appearance of members of the rural population interacted with the world of the court and of the city. The experience in rural space was important already for writers and artists in the premodern era, as the large variety of scholarly approaches indicates. The present volume signals how much the surprisingly close interaction between members of the aristocratic and of the peasant class determined many literary and art-historical works. In a surprisingly large number of cases we can even discover elements of utopia hidden in rural space. We also observe how much the rural world was a significant element already in early-medieval mentality. Moreover, as many authors point out, the impact of natural forces on premodern society was tremendous, if not catastrophic.

Download or read book Age of Folly written by Lewis H. Lapham and published by Verso Books. This book was released on 2016-10-11 with total page 482 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: America’s leading essayist on the frantic retreat of democracy, in the fire and smoke of the war on terror In office as President of the United States, Donald J. Trump is undoubtedly a menace, but he isn’t a surprise. He embodies the spirit of an age of folly abandoned to conspicuous consumption of vanity and greed. A self-glorifying photo-op, Trump is made to the measure of an infotainment media in which presidential candidates are game show contestants brought to judgment on election day before the throne of cameras by whom and for whom they are produced. To regard Trump as an amazement beyond belief is to give him credit where none is due, to mistake a symptom for the cause. Trump’s presence in the White House follows from an American regime change over the last twenty-five years during which a weakened but still operational democracy gave way to a stupefied and dysfunctional plutocracy. The history of that change is a hedge against the despair of the present, making possible the revolt against what G. K. Chesterton called “the small and arrogant oligarchy of those who merely happen to be walking about.”

Book Synopsis A Jolly Folly? by : Allan J. Macdonald
Download or read book A Jolly Folly? written by Allan J. Macdonald and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2017-08-02 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Stop the war on Christmas!" This is a common Christian complaint directed toward those perceived to be secularizing the festive season. However, many Christians forget that the modern festive season was a secular invention and that the "war" on Christmas was initiated by their spiritual forefathers, upon whose shoulders today's biblically sound churches stand. Should then the Christian endorse Christmas with joy or reject it as folly? If you hold to a Reformed theology, is "liberty of conscience" a credible principle to employ in the endorsement of Christmas in public worship? This book addresses these and other questions objectively, acknowledging the arguments on both sides. This thoughtfully illustrated book uses a historical framework to trace the evolution of Christmas from its ancient genesis into the modern era, identifying the contexts and motives that shaped opinion and practice in the Protestant Church, while also exposing as pure myth much that is often accepted as biblical fact. Abounding with intriguing detail, this book compels the reader to consider the negative effect Christmas has upon biblical doctrine and to contemplate the difficulties associated with the conclusion many arrive at, namely that Christmas meets with the approval of the Lord Jesus.

This book was released on 2023-01-05 with total page 395 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although not translated into English until 1549, Erasmus's most famous work, the Praise of Folly, has an English provenance as the product of his friendship with Thomas More. The text of the original translation, by Thomas Chaloner, appears here for the first time in a fully annotated, modernised edition. It is presented alongside a selection from the English Paraphrases, a central text of the Edwardian Reformation; translations of two pacifist works, the Bellum Erasmiand The Complaint of Peace, the second of which is constructed as an oration, like Praise of Folly; and the essay on the adage Sileni Alcibiadis.
