Book excerpt: Neutron strength functions and scattering radii are useful as energy and channel radius independent parameters that characterize neutron scattering resonances and provide a connection between R-matrix resonance analysis and the optical model. The choice of R-matrix channel radii is discussed, as are limitations on the accuracies of strength functions. New definitions of the p-wave strength function and scattering radius are proposed. For light nuclei, where strength functions display optical model energy variations over the resolved resonances, a doubly reduced partial neutron width is introduced for more meaningful statistical analyses of widths. The systematic behavior of strength functions and scattering radii is discussed.

Book Synopsis Optical Model Interpretation of Neutron Strength Functions by :
Download or read book Optical Model Interpretation of Neutron Strength Functions written by and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The qualitative dependence of the neutron strength function upon optical model parameters is discussed with emphasis on the effects of variations in the magnitude and spatial dependence of the absorptive potential. A model is presented that gives a good account of strength functions and potential scattering radii, as well as neutron scattering cross sections below 1 Mev for spherical nuclei. (auth).

Download or read book The Spin-dependence of the Neutron Strength Function written by Mark Aaron Samuel and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 35 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "[...] The existence of spin-dependent neutron-neutron, and neutron-proton interactions is well known. These are required to explain the properties of the deuteron, and the neutron-proton and neutron-neutron cross sections. The spins of the two nucleons are coupled by a tensor interaction. Thus, it seems reasonable to expect that the nucleon-nucleus interaction, in some average way, contains the spin-dependence of the nucleon-nucleon interaction. [...]" --

Download or read book Nuclear Structure Study with Neutrons written by J. Ero and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 500 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The International Conference on "Nuclear Structure Study with Neutrons" or ganized in Budapest between 31st July and 5th August. 1972. was the successor of a meeting held seven years ago in Antwerp. The close links between the two conferences were revealed not in name alone but. more importantly. in the choice of subjects discussed. As in Antwerp. the lectures and contributions to the Budapest Conference could be grouped under the following five main headings: nuclear spectroscopy; the optical model; the statistical model and intermediate structures; the mechanism of neutron capture and non-statistical effects; and, finally. miscellaneous special topics. The invited papers on the one hand summarizing recent developments and current thinking in one of the above main topics. and the other surveying the most important results of the contributed papers submitted to the Conference. were presented on the plenary sessions. Most of the contributed papers were read in full on three parallel sessions. This volume contains the complete text of all the lectures delivered in the plenary sessions and abstracts of the contributed papers. The invited talks were presented at the Conference in a rather random order because of technical reasons, it seemed. however, more sensible to change their order according to their subjects and to print them grouped under the above main headings. Further more we divided the Proceedings into two main parts, the first containing only the lectures of summarizing character. the second including the abstracts of the contributions together with the surveying talks.
Book Synopsis Atlas of Neutron Resonances by : Said F. Mughabghab
Download or read book Atlas of Neutron Resonances written by Said F. Mughabghab and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2018-02-09 with total page 698 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Atlas of Neutron Resonances: Resonance Properties and Thermal Cross Sections Z=61-102, Sixth Edition, contains an extensive list of detailed individual neutron resonance parameters for Z=61-102, thermal cross sections, capture and fission resonance integrals, average resonance parameters, and a short survey of the physics of thermal and resonance neutrons. The long introduction contains: nuclear physics formulas aimed at neutron physicists; topics of special interest such as valence neutron capture, nuclear level density parameters, and s-, p-, and d-wave neutron strength functions; and various comparisons of measured quantities with the predictions of nuclear models, such as the optical model neutron-induced fission. As in the last edition, additional features have been added to appeal to a wider spectrum of users. These include: spin-dependent scattering lengths that are of interest to solid-state physicists, nuclear physicists and neutron evaluators; calculated and measured Maxwellian average 5-keV and 30-keV capture cross sections of importance to astrophysicists involved in nucleosynthesis modeling; s-, p-, and d- wave average radiative widths; nuclear level density parameters; and average fission widths derived from average fission cross sections. - Provides a comparison of average resonance parameters with optical model calculations and with the generalized Landau-Fermi model - Presents scattering radii for various partial waves from the analysis of total neutron cross sections in the keV to MeV energy region - Includes a brief review of sub-threshold fission - Features consistent treatment of average neutron parameters with values from the resolved resonance region

Book Synopsis Neutron Cross Sections by : S Mughabghab
Download or read book Neutron Cross Sections written by S Mughabghab and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 847 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Neutron Cross Sections, Volume 1: Neutron Resonance Parameters and Thermal Cross Sections, Part A represents the fourth edition of what was previously known as BNL-325, Neutron Cross Sections, Volume 1. This three-chapter book provides the extensive list of detailed individual resonance parameters for each isotope. The first chapter deals with the thermal cross sections and average resonance parameters, as well as the physics of thermal and resonance neutrons, with particular emphasis on evaluation methods. This chapter also includes tables of standards of capture cross sections and scattering lengths, and commonly used nuclear physics formulas. The second chapter covers the direct or valence capture and the Brink-Axel treatment of electric dipole radiation. These topics are followed by a discussion on spin-dependent scattering lengths that are of interest to solid state. The third chapter describes the Maxwellian 30-keV capture cross sections that are of importance to studies of nucleosynthesis and age of the universe. This chapter also examines the s- and p-wave average radiative widths and gamma-ray strength functions that are required in capture cross section measurements. This book will appeal to nuclear and astrophysicists.
