Comparative neutron emission rates were determined by two separate methods: (1) the manganese sulfate bath with appropriate corrections made for fast neutron escape or capture and for thermal neutron capture by the source; and (2) long counter measurements corrected for energy response and so rce anisotropy. Agreement to within 1 percent was obtained by the two independent methods. A Ra-Be source calibrated against the NBS neutron standard was used as a primary reference Spectral measurements of PuBe13 and PuF4 neutron sources were made with nuclear emulsions. By the use of cylindrical plastic and lead absorbers, an effort was made to moderate the PuBe13 spectrum and thereby obtain additional calibration points for instrument response studies. Spectral changes were initially studied with the doublemoderator technique, followed by later measurements with nuclear emulsions. From flux and spectral measurements of the primary and moderated radioactive sources, the first collision tissue dose was calculated and, in turn, compared to experimental measurements of absorbed dose with proportional counters designed according to the Bragg-Gray principle. Book excerpt: Although the fission of heavy nuclei was discovered over 75 years ago, many problems and questions still remain to be addressed and answered. The reader will be presented with an old, but persistent problem of this field: The contradiction between Prompt Fission Neutron (PFN) spectra measured with differential (microscopic) experiments and integral (macroscopic and benchmark) experiments (the Micro-Macro problem). The difference in average energy is rather small ~3% but it is stable and we cannot explain the difference due to experimental uncertainties. Can we measure the PFN spectrum with high accuracy? How may we compare results of different experiments to provide better accuracy? Are our traditional theoretical models correct? What can be done to solve the Micro-Macro problem in future? These questions are discussed in this monograph for the reader. The current work will be of interest to graduate students and researchers, particularly those working in nuclear and neutron physics.

Book excerpt: Experimental works were conducted beside simulations with MCNP and PACE 4 codes to evaluate the neutron spectra, fluxes and dose rates for different collimation irradiation sizes. The results of neutron flux from Be source and the dose rate were in good agreement with literature. The neutron fluxes and absorbed dose rates differ according to the collimation irradiation field. The experimental and MCNP values are very close to each other for big collimator size, and a little differ for smaller ones. There is a drop of absorbed dose rate value by 10 % between collimators 8.5 x 8.5 cm2 and 4.5 x 4.5 cm2 as results from experiments and 25 % as calculated by MCNP code. That because of the neutron fluxes calculated by MCNP is less than 65measured values in the energy region between 1 MeV and 6 MeV. As a result, that leads us to the better collimation irradiation field to be used for the maximum capability of the neutron beam delivered to the patient.As shown in the results, we can increase the dose rate of neutrons by changing the geometry of inner layer of the collimator, and also we can improve it more by adding a layer of Lead metal (Pb) with certain thicknesses. That leads us to decrease the deuteron beam flux by about 67 %. Or we can decrease the energy of accelerated deuteron ions and save the spending energy on it. In another hand, we can decrease the time of waiting for the patient up to 67 %.We think we can use the same idea for other neutron sources like nuclear reactors, where there are many irradiation canals used to irradiate materials for researching or industrial purposes. If that applies, it will be very useful.
