Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Neutralization, Vol. 2: American's Opportunity Much has been said of the excellent administration of Siam and the Straits Settlements, the former of which, of course, is a sovereign state, although the people are one of the weaker peoples. Yet it is the fact that by imported labor the natives are almost completely shut out from industrial opportunity. In South Africa this menace has aroused remonstrances which have moved the British Govem ment to efforts to restrain the introduction of foreign labor at the expiration of engagements already entered into. Jealous as the great nations and their colonies are of the entrance into their territories of such labor as the Chinese and other alien races supply (even rigidly excluding, as is done by the United States, the entrance of any form of it under contract), the weaker peoples have been subjected to the competition of imported labor almost without restraint. We should prepare for the day when the aegis of international law may be so ex tended as to protect, as their protest makes itself heard, the nations who are suffering in a manner that must otherwise lead to their final extinction. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: No book has ever been published on tonal change and neutralization, two closely related topics in tonal phonology. This will be the first book to be devoted to both. The articles collected in this volume analyze a wide range of data concerning tonal change and neutralization, including post-lexical neutralization which represents a new topic in prosodic research. The volume as a whole covers a wide range of tone and pitch-accent languages in Asia, Africa and Europe, with a main focus on Asian languages/dialects many of which are endangered now. In addition to presenting novel data and analyses about individual languages, it provides typological perspectives on tonal change and neutralization. This volume will serve as an indispensable source of data and analyses for a wide range of linguists interested in phonetics, phonology, prosody, historical linguistics, language typology, endangered languages, Japanese linguistics, and Chinese linguistics.
Book Synopsis Agglutination, Complement, Neutralization, and Inhibition by : Curtis A. Williams
Download or read book Agglutination, Complement, Neutralization, and Inhibition written by Curtis A. Williams and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-10 with total page 489 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Methods in Immunology and Immunochemistry, Volume IV: Agglutination, Complement, Neutralization, and Inhibition provides information pertinent to direct and indirect agglutination reactions. This book covers a variety of topics, including complement-fixation procedures, isolation of complement components, hemolytic intermediates, complement-related proteins, and neutralization reactions. Organized into three chapters, this volume begins with an overview of test-tube agglutinations that are preferred for blood grouping with saline agglutinins that require more than a few minutes for agglutination. This text then describes blood group antibodies that agglutinate red blood cells suspended in saline. Other chapters consider the classical pathway of complement utilization. This book discusses as well the complexity of events leading to hemolysis of erythrocytes by complement. The final chapter deals with the ability of antitoxin to neutralize diphtheria toxin and explains the quantitative relationships between antigen and antibody. This book is a valuable resource for immunologists, scientists, and research workers.
