Book Synopsis Quality Assurance and Accreditation in Distance Education and e-Learning by : Insung Jung
Download or read book Quality Assurance and Accreditation in Distance Education and e-Learning written by Insung Jung and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012-04-05 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Quality assurance (QA) in open and distance learning (ODL) can be a contentious issue. Some argue that it should be judged by the same criteria and methods as face-to-face education, while others claim that it is so different in its organization, enrolments and operations that conventional QA mechanisms cannot apply. Some advocate the use of specific guidelines and standards for e-learning; others believe that, regardless of the technology, the basic principles of quality teaching and learning should apply. Providers who have enjoyed freedom from external scrutiny may resist attempts at external regulation and auditing and look upon QA as yet another imposition of corporatization and bureaucracy on education. Others see it as a means of establishing a culture of quality, self-reflection and self-improvement. There is little research-based literature to guide policy-makers, managers and practitioners in applying QA in education and training to ensure the right balance is found between accountability and autonomy, as well as assuring quality for the time and costs involved. In this respect, Quality Assurance and Accreditation in Distance Education and e-Learning is a book that is long overdue. It explains what is involved in QA and accreditation in education. It describes and analyzes applications of these practices in open, distance, dual-mode and conventional universities throughout Europe, North America, Africa, and the Asia-Pacific, looking at open schooling, e-learning in conventional schools, non-formal adult and community education, and corporate and small-to-medium enterprises. Quality Assurance and Accreditation in Distance Education and e-Learning is edited and authored by experts with extensive international experience in ODL, e-learning and QA who give careful consideration to the possibilities and challenges involved. The book will be an invaluable guide for all policy-makers, managers, practitioners and researchers in the field.
Book Synopsis Network Dynamics in Emerging Regions of Europe by : David A. Dyker
Download or read book Network Dynamics in Emerging Regions of Europe written by David A. Dyker and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2010 with total page 415 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This important book focuses on post-Lisbon Agenda issues of alignment and misalignment on different dimensions of European society and the European economy, including industrial systems, R&D systems, educational systems and job markets. It also looks in particular at the peripheral regions of Europe ? the less developed parts of ?old? Europe, the parts of old Europe that are outside or only half-inside the EU, the new member-states of the EU, and Turkey as the most important EU candidate country. It takes as its methodological starting point the theory of network alignment as developed in SPRU, notably by Nick von Tunzelmann, and builds on this to produce an incisive assessment of the institutions, individual actors and markets that drive the knowledge economy. In all of this, it sets the European picture firmly in the context of global developments in investment, labour and intellectual property flows. Key authors include the editor himself, von Tunzelmann, Andrea Salavetz of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and Matija Rojec of the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia.

Book Synopsis Cooperative and Networking Strategies in Small Business by : Marta Peris-Ortiz
Download or read book Cooperative and Networking Strategies in Small Business written by Marta Peris-Ortiz and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-11-03 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book aims to collect the most recent research and best practices in the cooperative and networking small business field identifying new theoretical models and describing the relationship between cooperation and networks in the small business strategy context. It examines different concepts and analytical techniques better understand the links between cooperative strategies and networks in small business. It also studies the existing economic conditions of network and strategic implications to small business from the point of view of their internal and external consistency. Cooperation and networks is a fashionable topic. It is receiving increasing attention in popular management publications, as well as specialized academic journals. Cooperation between firms and industries is a means of leveraging and aggregating knowledge also generating direct benefits in terms of innovation, productivity and competitiveness. Various options and decisions made within the framework of strategic alliances may be identified and differentiated. For example, it has been argued that R&D cooperation between competing firms also facilitates the search for incremental efficiency gains and is thus a competitive advantage. In parallel with a theoretical acceptance of the importance of a sustained competitive advantage to formulate strategy, there is a growing understanding that cooperative and networking behavior among small firms is at the root of many success stories in today's small business management. This condition requires an effort to develop a study of both aspects of cooperation and networks as compatible, complementary facets of a unique reality. In short, the cooperative and networking relationships of a small business can be the source of its competitive advantage. Enhancement of local resources and capabilities for the generation and dissemination of knowledge is still an issue for defining public policies in many countries.Featuring contributions covering such topics as green innovation, social commerce, university cooperation networks, and regional entrepreneurship, this book provides a comprehensive and richly illustrated study of cooperation and networks in small business that will be pertinent to students, academics, professionals, scholars, and policy makers./div

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bachelor Thesis from the year 2017 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: 1.0, University of Applied Sciences Saarbrücken, language: English, abstract: This topic is gaining more and more relevance nowadays. Platforms are taking the business world by storm – especially Social Networks like Facebook, LinkedIn or Twitter offer a revolutionary kind of communication for several online customer groups, especially for businesses. The Internet Growth pushed the globalization to a great extent which leads to markets being more transparent and competitive. The customer behavior has changed to a more active position – they want to be connected to businesses with the effect of reaching a new dimension in Customer Relationship Management. Large enterprises are doing well in social networking by staying in an ongoing communication with their customers – SMEs still struggle with this approach. Questions arise if utilization potential of social networks exists for middle-class businesses and how effectiveness and efficiency of SMEs, however, have improvement opportunities through the usage of social media channels. In terms of structure, this thesis is separated into two parts. Firstly, two-sided markets and networks effects are explained in general by analyzing focal aspects and major hurdles for platform founders. Afterwards, the focus will shift from platform pioneers to platform users regarding social networks where these platforms are analyzed to a great extent in combination with usage terms for SMEs.

Book Synopsis Dynamics of Economic Spaces in the Global Knowledge-based Economy by : Sam Ock Park
Download or read book Dynamics of Economic Spaces in the Global Knowledge-based Economy written by Sam Ock Park and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-09-19 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses how economic spaces dynamically change within the context of the global knowledge-based economy. Specifically, it centers the discussion on integrated views of understanding and conceptualizing dynamic changes of global economy under the global megatrends of globalization, knowledge-based economy, information society, service world, climate change, and population aging. Focusing on East Asia, especially on Korea, it deals with case studies regarding the processes and patterns of these global dynamics, looking at economic spaces of various spatial scales and types of economic actors. This book develops a theoretical model for understanding and analysing the dynamics of economic spaces that are being reshaped within the larger global economy. It also emphasizes the analysis of empirical studies at the level of firm, region, and state by considering an evolutionary perspective over time. In developing its theoretical framework, this book examines regional resilience, intangible assets, service innovation, path dependence, and other notions related to the evolution of economic spaces, and incorporates these elements into real-world case studies. The integrated theoretical framework examined here contributes a new perspective on spatial disparities in the global economy. An integral model of service innovation; the integration of path dependence and regional resilience; the interaction between firm and region for the accumulation of intangible assets; and the roles of governments and global firms: these are all essential to understanding the dynamics of economic spaces in East Asia. The theoretical model and case studies in this book suggest policy implications for developing countries, especially in the Asian and African regions, with regard to regional development and innovation policies.
