Book Synopsis Advances in Signal Processing for Nondestructive Evaluation of Materials by : X.P. Maldague
Download or read book Advances in Signal Processing for Nondestructive Evaluation of Materials written by X.P. Maldague and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 486 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE) is now playing an increasing role in our modern global economy; in security sensitive industries, for instance. The complexity of the inspection task and either large or limited lot runs now require more operator-assisted or fully- automated signal processing. This book deals with both fields of expertise: NDE and signal processing. On the signal processing side, in the particular context of NDE applications, the following topics are discussed: sensor fusion, signal knowledge representation, artificial intelligence, fuzzy logic, computer vision, integration of numeric and non-numeric informations, parallel decomposition, noise processing and calibration of sensor devices as well as reliability of detection. Some hardware considerations are introduced as well, to discuss platforms on which processing is done. On the NDE side, applications include advances in holographic interferometry, microwave resonance or shearography and also on more traditional NDE techniques such as ultrasonics, infrared techniques, X-ray, computed tomography, Eddy currents. Inverse problems are also discussed. This book is required reading for those who already have some experience in one or both fields (signal processing and/or NDE).

Book Synopsis Financial Justification of Nondestructive Testing by : Emmanuel P. Papadakis
Download or read book Financial Justification of Nondestructive Testing written by Emmanuel P. Papadakis and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2006-08-15 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Demonstrating how to apply financial formulas to prove or disprove the utility of 100% Nondesctructive testing (NDT), this book helps readers build the financial case for their NDT projects. It not only explains how 100% inspection by high-tech methods can save money for a manufacturing organization, but also how to justify this cost. Providing examples of successful NDT implementation drawn from factory situations, the author describes high-tech inspection technology in the context of modern ISO Quality Standards, TQM theory, and Statistical Process Control. Placing NDT in the historical context of quality and inspection, the book provides three methods of calculation for proving its validity.
Book Synopsis Local Content Requirements by : Gary Clyde Hufbauer
Download or read book Local Content Requirements written by Gary Clyde Hufbauer and published by Columbia University Press. This book was released on 2013-10-05 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the wake of the Great Recession of 2008–09, economists feared that protectionist policies might sweep the world economy, echoing the wave of tariff escalations during the Great Depression of the 1930s. To some surprise, officials were more restrained and largely avoided traditional forms of protection (tariffs and quotas). As a result, economists underestimated the incidence of new protectionism because policymakers increasingly turned to more opaque behind-the-border nontariff barriers (NTBs). Using a combination of statistical analysis and case studies, the authors show that local content requirements (LCRs), a form of NTB, have become increasingly popular. How much was global trade actually reduced on account of LCRs? A conservative estimate might be $93 billion. Case studies featured cover the healthcare sector in Brazil, wind turbines in Canada, the automobile industry in China, solar cells and modules in India, oil and gas in Nigeria, and "Buy American" restrictions on government procurement.

Book Synopsis Review of Progress in Quantitative Nondestructive Evaluation by : Donald O. Thompson
Download or read book Review of Progress in Quantitative Nondestructive Evaluation written by Donald O. Thompson and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-12-01 with total page 2101 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume (Parts A and B) contains the edited papers presented at the annual Review of Progress in Quantitative Nondestructive Evaluation held at Bowdoin College, Brunswick, ME on July 24-28, 1989. The Review was organized by the Center for Advanced NDE at the Ames Laboratory of the U. S. Department of Energy, in cooperation with the Office of Basic Energy Sciences, USDOE, and the Materials Laboratory at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. The statistics for the 1989 Review of Progress in QNDE include a total of over 460 participants from the U. S. and nine foreign countries who presented some 325 papers. Over the years this conference has grown into one of the largest, most significant gatherings of NDE researchers and engineers in the world. The meeting was divided into 35 sessions, with as many as four sessions running concurrently, and covering all stages of NDE development from basic research investigations to early engineering applications and all methods of inspection science from ultrasonics to x-ray tomography. The Editors have organized the papers in the Proceedings according to topical subject headings, rather than in the original order of presentation. This rearrangement yields a more user-friendly reference work and follows a pattern now familiar to regular attendees of the Review. Some changes in the headings and their subcategories have been introduced to accommodate dynamic evolution of the field, as we observe it.
Book Synopsis Electrical and Magnetic Methods of Non-destructive Testing by : J. Blitz
Download or read book Electrical and Magnetic Methods of Non-destructive Testing written by J. Blitz and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is intended to help satisfy an urgent requirement for up-to date comprehensive texts at graduate and senior undergraduate levels on the subjects in non-destructive testing (NDT). The subject matter here is confined to electrical and magnetic methods, with emphasis on the widely used eddy current and magnetic flux leakage methods (including particle inspection), but proper attention is paid to other techniques, such as microwave and AC field applications, which are rapidly growing in importance. Theoretical analyses relating to the various methods are discussed and the depths of presentation are often governed by whether or not the information is readily available elsewhere. Thus, for example, a considerable amount of space is devoted to eddy current theory at what the author considers to be a reasonable standard and not, as usually experienced, in either a too elementary manner or at a level appreciated only by a postgraduate theoretical physicist. The inclusion of the introductory chapter is intended to acquaint the reader with some of the philosophy of NDT and to compare, briefly, the relative performances of the more important methods of testing.

Book Synopsis Optical Metrology and Optoacoustics in Nondestructive Evaluation of Materials by : Zinoviy Nazarchuk
Download or read book Optical Metrology and Optoacoustics in Nondestructive Evaluation of Materials written by Zinoviy Nazarchuk and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-05-23 with total page 415 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book includes the description, modeling and realization of new optical metrology techniques for technical diagnostics of materials. Special attention is paid to multi-step phase shifting interferometry with arbitrary phase shifts between interferograms, phase shifting and correlation digital speckle pattern interferometry, optical-digital speckle correlation, and digital image correlation, as well as dynamic speckle patterns analysis. Optoacoustic techniques can be treated as a separate branch of optical metrology and can solve many problems of technical diagnostics, including detection and localization of subsurface defects in laminated composite materials. The utility of such techniques can be increased by illumination of the object via acoustic waves at certain frequencies. Hence, an effective theoretical approach to the modeling of an elastic wave field interaction with an interphase defect, and to defect visualization using dynamic speckle patterns, is also included in this book. The experimental proof of the proposed approaches was achieved using a specially created hybrid optical-digital system for detection of different subsurface defects. This book is intended for engineers, researchers and students engaged in the field of nondestructive evaluation of materials and technical diagnostics of structural elements, hybrid optical systems, speckle metrology and optoacoustic imaging techniques.
