Book Synopsis The Alliance Without Enemy: a Post Cold War History of West by : Dr. Priyabhishek Sharma

This book was released on 2019-07-15 with total page 315 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book has the following features: • When we say “West,” what do we really mean? The prologue sets out to explore this question from literary, historical, strategic, philosophical, and cultural vantage points • In order to understand today’s West, different shades of the long and arduous transatlantic dialogue starting with Christopher Columbus’s accidental discovery of America to the collapse of Soviet Union have been reasonably accounted for. The second chapter traces back this evolutionary journey in simple, easily understandable way. • The book has been a fifteen-year story of phenomenal change, which redefined the very nature of the Western Alliance after the collapse of Soviet Union. • Changes in the geopolitical map of Europe, emergence of European Union, re-orientation of NATO, and the mutual play between the United States and Europe all throughout the decade of 1990s have been woven into the narrative of this book with the aim to understand how the West, if at all, has changed. • Three major events of post–Cold War history—the Balkan Crisis, the 9/11, and Iraq War 2003—had played major stimulus in re-understanding the West. Detailed chronological accounts of these events have been presented before the reader. • What are the rationale, motivations, and implications of EU and NATO’s enlargements to the East, and how has the enlargement impacted the Alliance. • The epilogue reflects upon what has changed and what continues in today’s West across different historical phases. • How have the schemes of European security in post-cold war era been coexisting with the changing face of NATO is yet another theme this book seeks to address.

Book Synopsis Studies in Gangs and Cartels by : RobertJ. Bunker
Download or read book Studies in Gangs and Cartels written by RobertJ. Bunker and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-07-05 with total page 165 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Concerns over the changing nature of gangs and cartels and their relationships to states in the late 20th and early 21st centuries has resulted in the emergence of a scholarly body of work focused on their national security threat potentials. This body of work, utilizing the third generation gangs and third phase cartel typologies, represents an alternative to traditional gang and organized crime research and one that is increasingly influencing the US defense community. Rather than being viewed only as misguided youth and opportunistic criminals or, in their mature forms, as criminal organizations with no broader social or political agendas, more evolved gangs and cartels, are instead seen as developing political, mercenary, and state-challenging capacities. This evolutionary process has emerged due to the growing illicit economy and other unintended consequences of globalization. This important anthology of writings by Robert J. Bunker and John P. Sullivan draws upon a collection of their works from the mid-1990s to the present with the addition of new essays written specifically for this publication. The work will be of great interest to academics and students in the fields of political science and criminal justice and to military, law enforcement, and governmental professionals and policy makers. This book is a collection of new and previously published works from a variety of publications, a full list of which is on the Citation Information page.

Furthermore, the volume-specific indexes are only subject indexes, whereas five different indexes appear within this one comprehensive index: the subject index, an index organized according to the title of the document, an index based on the name of the document's author, an index correlated to the document's year, and a subject-by-year index. This one all-encompassing Index thus provides users with multiple ways to conduct research into four years' worth of Terrorism: 1st Series volumes.
Book Synopsis Generative Programming and Component Engineering by : Don Batory
Download or read book Generative Programming and Component Engineering written by Don Batory and published by Springer. This book was released on 2003-06-30 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume constitutes the proceedings of the ?rst ACM SIGPLAN/SIGSOFT International Conference on Generative Programming and Component Engine- ing (GPCE 2002), held October 6–8, 2002, in Pittsburgh, PA, USA, as part of the PLI 2002 event, which also included ICFP, PPDP, and a?liated workshops. The future of Software Engineering lies in the automation of tasks that are performed manually today. Generative Programming (developing programs that synthesize other programs), Component Engineering (raising the level of mo- larization and analysis in application design), and Domain-Speci?c Languages (elevating program speci?cations to compact domain-speci?c notations that are easier to write and maintain) are key technologies for automating program de- lopment. In a time of conference and workshop proliferation, GPCE represents acounter-trend in the merging of two distinct communities with strongly ov- lapping interests: the Generative and Component-Based Software Engineering Conference (GCSE) and the International Workshop on the Semantics, App- cations, and Implementation of Program Generation (SAIG). Researchers in the GCSE community address the topic of program automation from a contemporary software engineering viewpoint; SAIG correspondingly represents a community attacking automation from a more formal programming languages viewpoint. Together, their combination provides the depth of theory and practice that one would expect in apremier research conference. Three prominent PLI invited speakers lectured at GPCE 2002: Neil Jones (University of Copenhagen), Catuscia Palamidessi (Penn State University), and Janos Sztipanovits (Vanderbilt University). GPCE 2002 received 39 submissions, of which 18 were accepted.
