Book excerpt: Excerpt from Nature Through Microscope and Camera Hose Who have once attempted to catch a glimpse of the wonderful secrets that Nature will unveil to the earnest and discreet searcher can never again look upon things as common or of little importance because they do not display to the eye of the superficial observer the beauties that lie hidden under an unattractive appearance or are shrouded in size so minute that the ordinary eye is incapable of discerning their exquisite plan and detail. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Microscope Many years ago I remember reading a fairy tale called, I think, The rose-coloured Spectacles. It told of a wonderful pair of spectacles which caused everything to appear different to the person who was wearing them. Things looked so Very changed as seen through these rose-coloured spectacles and so many new features were discerned, that people came from far and wide to look through them. Unfortunately the secret of the manufacture of the rose-coloured spectacles has never been discovered. An instrument has been made, however, which nearly approaches them, and actually surpasses them in the wonderful things it Shows. This instrument is the Microscope, and in this little book I Shall endeavour to help you to look through it and to see some of the wonderful things it reveals in the great realm of Nature. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Microscopist; Or, a Complete Manual on the Use of the Microscope: For Physicians, Students, and All Lovers of Natural Science; With Illustrations The rapid sale of the first edition of this work, both in England and the United States, proves its adaptation to the Wants of the scientific community, and justifies the care and extra expense with which this second edition has been prepared. Although the first edition was unusually large, it is not at all probable that the demand has been exhausted. But a little more than a year has elapsed since its appearance, yet sufficient time has been afforded for the author to make a number of important additions, which increase the value of the work to the student of nature. This book was released on 2018-02-14 with total page 1188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Microscope and Its Revelations Tait use of the Microscope, both as an instrument of scientific research and as a means of affording pleasure and recreative instruction, has become so widespread, and the instrument is now so frequently found in an expensive form capable of yielding in skilled hands good optical results, that it is eminently desirable that a treatise should be within the reach of the student and the tiro alike, which would provide both with the elements of the theory and principles involved in the construction of the instrument itself, the nature of its latest appliances, and the proper conditions on which they can be em ployed with the best results. Beyond this it should provide an outline of the latest and best modes of preparing, examining, and mounting objects, and glance, with this purpose in view, at what is easily accessible for the requirements of the amateur in the entire organic and inorganic kingdoms. Book Synopsis Practical Photo-Micrography (Classic Reprint) by : J. Edwin Barnard
Download or read book Practical Photo-Micrography (Classic Reprint) written by J. Edwin Barnard and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-05 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Practical Photo-Micrography In the following pages an attempt has been made to sot out the methods of obtaining photographs of microscopic objects. It is not an easy matter to describe the details and processes of a practical scientific subject in a lucid and interesting manner: it is one tiling to be conversant with the practical side of the subject, but quite another to write such a description of the procedure as will enable another person to carry it out. In the present instance all that is claimed is that the attempt is a straightforward one, founded on practical experience. The description of instruments is as full as the circumstances would appear to justify; that, for instance, of the microscope, about which much can be learned from books on pure microscopy, is less full than the description of cameras and their construction. The number of references to the work of others is small: not because the writer wishes in any way to pass over such work or to minimise its importance, but because the subject is one that is best treated in the light of personal experience. Sincere thanks are due to Professor R. T. Hewlett, who, in addition to reading the proofs and making valuable suggestions thereon, has at all times given advice, and placed at the author's disposal the benefit of his wide experience. Thanks are also due to Hr. F. Shillington Scales, M. A.; and to Mr. G. Beilby, F. R. S., and Mr. C. O. Bannister for the loan of blocks and specimens.
