Book Synopsis Geomagnetic Micropulsations by : J. A. Jacobs
Download or read book Geomagnetic Micropulsations written by J. A. Jacobs and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The subject of geomagnetic micropulsations has developed extremely rapidly and it is difficult to know when is an appropriate time to pause and assess the sum total of our knowledge-both observational and theoretical. There has in recent years been a tremendous increase in both the quantity and quality of data and also many theoretical ad vances in our understanding of the phenomenon. Undoubtedly there will be further progress in both areas but it seems worthwhile now to review both our knowledge and our ignorance. This book was essen tially completed by the end of April 1969 and tries to give a summary of the subject up to that time. The Earth is enclosed in the magnetosphere, a hollow carved out of the solar wind by the Earth's magnetic field. Above the ionosphere there is a very tenuous thermal plasma of partially ionized hydrogen in diffusive equilibrium with magnetic and gravitational forces, and ener getic protons and electrons that constitute the trapped Van Allen ra diation belts. Throughout this anisotropic and inhomogeneous plasma, natural and man-made electromagnetic energy propagates in a wide variety of modes and frequency bands. This book is concerned with that class of natural signals called geomagnetic micropulsations-short period (usually of the order of seconds or minutes) fluctuations of the Earth's magnetic field.
Book Synopsis Ultra and Extremely Low Frequency Electromagnetic Fields by : Vadim Surkov
Download or read book Ultra and Extremely Low Frequency Electromagnetic Fields written by Vadim Surkov and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-07-08 with total page 495 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The major emphasis of this book is on physical mechanisms and sources of the ULF/ELF natural electromagnetic fields noises. In the course of this text, some of these mechanisms of magnetospheric origin will be treated in detail and others in a more sketchy fashion, while the global electromagnetic resonances excited by lightning activity and other sources are the priority. The interested reader is referred to the books cited in the text for details about the ULF/ELF fields of magnetospheric origin. Much emphasis is put on studies of electromagnetic phenomena caused by rock deformation/fracture including the ULF/ELF effects possibly associated with tectonic activity, earthquakes and other natural disasters. One of the challenges of this research is to fully understand electromagnetic effects and physical processes in the rocks deep in the Earth’s crust.

Download or read book Electromagnetic Boundary Problems written by Edward F. Kuester and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2015-09-15 with total page 1344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electromagnetic Boundary Problems introduces the formulation and solution of Maxwell’s equations describing electromagnetism. Based on a one-semester graduate-level course taught by the authors, the text covers material parameters, equivalence principles, field and source (stream) potentials, and uniqueness, as well as: Provides analytical solutions of waves in regions with planar, cylindrical, spherical, and wedge boundaries Explores the formulation of integral equations and their analytical solutions in some simple cases Discusses approximation techniques for problems without exact analytical solutions Presents a general proof that no classical electromagnetic field can travel faster than the speed of light Features end-of-chapter problems that increase comprehension of key concepts and fuel additional research Electromagnetic Boundary Problems uses generalized functions consistently to treat problems that would otherwise be more difficult, such as jump conditions, motion of wavefronts, and reflection from a moving conductor. The book offers valuable insight into how and why various formulation and solution methods do and do not work.
