Commercial Banking and Securities Organizations; 1990 The study covers 21 banking and 18 securities markets in 27 countries or regions. These chapters incorporate private sector remarks. The chapters were also sent to financial and monetary authorities in each market for comment and review. The final report, however, reflects the views of the u.s. Treasury Department. Sixteen of the banking markets and eight of the securities markets were reviewed in the 1986 Update. The banking markets reviewed in 1986 include Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Finland, India, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Mexico, Norway, the Philippines, Singapore, Sweden, Taiwan, Thailand, and Venezuela. New banking markets include China, the European Community, Indonesia, Turkey and the ussr. Securities markets covered in 1986 include Canada, Japan, France, the Federal Republic of Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. Securities markets reviewed for the first time include Argentina, Brazil, the European Community, Finland, India, the Republic of Korea, Mexico, Singapore, Taiwan and Venezuela. The European Community chapters are based upon the actual or proposed legal framework which is to take effect on January 1, 1993. The 1990 National Treatment Study is broader than previous studies in its coverage of the foreign presence in the o.s. Market and the more detailed descriptions of foreign markets. Previous national treatment studies focused on the presence and treatment of u.s. Firms in foreign markets. The 1990 study describes the structure and size of domestic markets, the regulatory regime of the host country, the presence of u.s. And other foreign firms, and the treatment accorded these firms.
