Book Synopsis Statistical Software Engineering by : National Research Council
Download or read book Statistical Software Engineering written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1996-03-15 with total page 83 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book identifies challenges and opportunities in the development and implementation of software that contain significant statistical content. While emphasizing the relevance of using rigorous statistical and probabilistic techniques in software engineering contexts, it presents opportunities for further research in the statistical sciences and their applications to software engineering. It is intended to motivate and attract new researchers from statistics and the mathematical sciences to attack relevant and pressing problems in the software engineering setting. It describes the "big picture," as this approach provides the context in which statistical methods must be developed. The book's survey nature is directed at the mathematical sciences audience, but software engineers should also find the statistical emphasis refreshing and stimulating. It is hoped that the book will have the effect of seeding the field of statistical software engineering by its indication of opportunities where statistical thinking can help to increase understanding, productivity, and quality of software and software production.

Book Synopsis Innovations in Federal Statistics by : National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine
Download or read book Innovations in Federal Statistics written by National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2017-04-21 with total page 151 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Federal government statistics provide critical information to the country and serve a key role in a democracy. For decades, sample surveys with instruments carefully designed for particular data needs have been one of the primary methods for collecting data for federal statistics. However, the costs of conducting such surveys have been increasing while response rates have been declining, and many surveys are not able to fulfill growing demands for more timely information and for more detailed information at state and local levels. Innovations in Federal Statistics examines the opportunities and risks of using government administrative and private sector data sources to foster a paradigm shift in federal statistical programs that would combine diverse data sources in a secure manner to enhance federal statistics. This first publication of a two-part series discusses the challenges faced by the federal statistical system and the foundational elements needed for a new paradigm.

Book Synopsis World Programme for the Census of Agriculture 2020 by : Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations
Download or read book World Programme for the Census of Agriculture 2020 written by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2019-02-04 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: FAO has supported member countries to carry out their national agricultural censuses since 1945, through the development and dissemination of international standards, concepts, definitions and methodologies as well as technical assistance. In 2015, FAO published Volume 1 of the World Programme for the Census of Agriculture 2020 (WCA 2020) “Programme, concepts and definitions”, the tenth decennial programme that provides guidelines for implementation of national agricultural censuses in the 2016-2025 decade. Volume 1 deals with the methodological and conceptual aspects of the census of agriculture. In addition to the use of international standards, the proper conduct of an agricultural census also depends on adequate planning, implementation, use of resources and quality assurance throughout all stages of the census. In light of this, Volume 2 of WCA 2020 “Operational guidelines” has been designed to guide national census practitioners responsible for conducting the agricultural census. It deals with the practical steps involved in actually conducting an agricultural census in the field. Volume 2 is a revised and updated edition of “Conducting Agricultural Censuses and Surveys”, published by FAO in 1996. The revision is opportune not only in view of the recent publication of the new census programme and methodology but also in view of the substantial changes witnessed in the census technological environment over the last two decades. The availability of digital, mobile and more affordable tools for data capture, geo-positioning, remote sensing imaging, digital archiving and online dissemination have provided new cost-effective alternatives to traditional ways of conducting the agricultural census.
Book Synopsis New Techniques and Technologies for Statistics II by :
Download or read book New Techniques and Technologies for Statistics II written by and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 1997 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The compilation and deployment of statistical techniques is nowadays almost universally based on computing systems. Rapidly changing technology is expanding the options available for improving the quality, range and delivery of statistics whilst reducing the cost, and at the same time is putting pressure on producers and users to keep up with the latest techniques, both as management views develop of what is possible and simply through peer group pressure. In the areas of official statistics, it is clear that new technologies will change our approach to the whole range to activities from systems design, through data collection, processing, analysis and dissemination, to the structure of the European Statistical System and internal organization of national statistical institutes. Eurostat has a central role in promoting and coordinating the development and use of statistics in public administrations, which extends to the adoption of new techniques and technologies as they are proven validated. An important aspect of this role is to anticipate needs, to stimulate, encourage and fund research work of common interest, to support national initiatives and to prove a forum for discussion. In this new book techniques and technologies in statistics are described. The needs and constraints of official staticians are described as well as the latest developments of researchers. The book presents the research and development projects funded by the European Commission in the development of statistical tools and techniques under the R&D framework programme and the progress to date in the current Development of Statistical Information Systems (DOSIS) programme.
Book Synopsis Data Warehousing and Knowledge Discovery by : Yahiko Kambayashi
Download or read book Data Warehousing and Knowledge Discovery written by Yahiko Kambayashi and published by Springer. This book was released on 2003-05-15 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Second International Conference on Data Warehousing and Knowledge Discovery (DaWaK 2000) was held in Greenwich, UK 4–6 September. DaWaK 2000 was a forum where researchers from data warehousing and knowledge discovery disciplines could exchange ideas on improving next generation decision support and data mining systems. The conference focused on the logical and physical design of data warehousing and knowledge discovery systems. The scope of the papers covered the most recent and relevant topics in the areas of data warehousing, multidimensional databases, OLAP, knowledge discovery and mining complex databases. These proceedings contain the technical papers selected for presentation at the conference. We received more than 90 papers from over 20 countries and the program committee finally selected 31 long papers and 11 short papers. The conference program included three invited talks, namely, “A Foolish Consistency: Technical Challenges in Consistency Management” by Professor Anthony Finkelstein, University College London, UK; “European Plan for Research in Data Warehousing and Knowledge Discovery” by Dr. Harald Sonnberger (Head of Unit A4, Eurostat, European Commission); and “Security in Data Warehousing” by Professor Bharat Bhargava, Purdue University, USA.
