He is a very active, eleven year old with a keen interest in all things to do with outer space. After school one Friday he receives a visit from an alien (Farden) from a distant planet who asks for his help in retrieving plans for a deadly weapon that were stolen from a secure facility by an enemy of the Confederation Of Planets, Security Force (C.O.P.S.). The alien explains to Nate that his great grandfather was, in fact, an alien, a member of long deceased race that used their significant powers to keep kept the Universe in balance. As a result, Nate has telepathic abilities that he had been using in his ordinary, everyday life, but without ever being aware of what he was doing. After some deliberation, Nate agrees to help and sets off on an adventure that will take his to the other edge of the Milky Way. As a newly recruited Confederation officer Nate is given a special suit that is more like a living creature with whom he is able to communicate. This will be the first of many books in which Nate Armstrong, as a newly commissioned Confederation Officer, embarks upon missions assigned to him by General Farden and, in the process, hones his newly discovered telepathic abilities.
