Book excerpt: I wanted to give a correct accounting of a professional pet care person's life. Many think that I am rich and have lots of fun. The fun part is true; however, there is a huge responsibility for the pet care professional to never be ill, their vehicle can never break down, because they are responsible for the health, safety, and security of other families' fur children. If one wanted to become a professional pet care person this book will give lots of information on what to do and what not to do with the home, the animals, and the interview process with the pet owners/caregivers. I also wanted to impart the fact that a professional pet care provider is on call 24/7 every day of the year. I have worked 365 days per year for over 28 years. That has been excellent for me as I love, honor, and adore every fur child. However, I have seen many young women start a business and then quit in a short time frame because of the time needed to care for their own families. People will book your services months or weeks in advance or they might call at 10 PM and ask you to start visiting their home the next morning because of a family emergency. You will work nearly nonstop from October through January. The rest of the year your assignments may be a few days, one week, two weeks, or even 30 days at a time. You are indeed on call for everyone's life. As far as rich, car repairs, gasoline, tires, etc. all require dollars. You usually are working from early morning into the late evening and other times even doing overnight pet sitting in people's homes. I tell many funny stories in the book to illustrate that in a split second you will have to assess the situation and save the day. Your reflexes have to be lightning fast because the animals react as fast as lighting to all kinds of situations and other animals. You also have to realize that if you "screw up" you might as well slit your own throat. These fur children are the center of the owner's existence and their loss would be totally devastating to the owner. I believe that the most important chapter in my book deals with animal reincarnation. Losing an animal is one of the most traumatic events in a person's life short of losing a child. That chapter explains that our animals never leave us. They sometimes reincarnate and come back. Otherwise, they are angels watching over us. They are with us 24/7. When I first started my business I named it "Never Say Goodbye" because my logical mind determined the following. Your fur children stay in their own home with the other fur babies they are always with. Nothing changes in their life other than I am not you. Years later when several of my children reincarnated and returned to me I realized that we truly never have to say goodbye. It is beyond my comprehension to imagine the number of hearts worldwide that will be healed when that truth reaches every person who has lost a fur child.

Book excerpt: The authorities on all things bogan and authors of THINGS BOGANS LIKE are back with an historical, sociological, geographic and cultural study that traces bogan culture back to society's very foundation. Identifying prototypical and stereotypical bogans through time, they examine the bogan of the 19th century and their pre-war descendants, before moving onto the speciman often considered the quintessential bogan, identified by a love of '80s metal, flannelette and Victoria Bitter. They then track the bogan's leap into the 21st century - where they can be seen across the country, clad in garish garb, holding their nationalism close to their chest, and slavishly following every celebrity trend. BOGANOMICS is an important book for all Australians as understanding is the bridge to unity. Read this book to broaden your knowlege ... or to laugh ... a lot.

Entertainers and artists such as Jerry Seinfeld, Adam Sandler, Allegra Goodman, and Tony Kushner have heralded new waves of television, film, literature, and theater; a major klezmer revival is under way; bagels are now as commonplace as pizza; and kabbalah has become as cool as crystals. Does this broad range of cultural expression accurately reflect what it means to be Jewish in America today? Bringing together fourteen new essays by leading scholars, You Should See Yourself examines the fluctuating representations of Jewishness in a variety of areas of popular culture and high art, including literature, the media, film, theater, music, dance, painting, photography, and comedy. Contributors explore the evolution that has taken place within these cultural forms and how we can best explain these changes. Are variations in our understanding of Jewishness the result of general phenomena such as multiculturalism, politics, and postmodernism, or are they the product of more specifically Jewish concerns such as the intermarriage/continuity crisis, religious renewal, and relations between the United States and Israel? Accessible to students and general readers alike, this volume takes an important step toward advancing the discussion of Jewish cultural influences in this country.

After the publication of that book, Fran's life launched into a downward spiral. She separated from a long and complicated relationship, her TV series started to slip in the ratings, and the health of her beloved dog Chester was failing fast. Then came the mysterious symptoms no doctor could explain. With her trademark sense of humor, Fran tells of her long search for answers and the cancer diagnosis that she ultimately beat. But not before a gold mine of insights were revealed to her about the importance of taking charge of your own health and recognizing what's most important in life.

Book excerpt: Welcome to your new journey. This book has many stories of triumph and success. It follows my life story, along with many others, to show how we all changed our lives through craziness, diversity, loss, grief, break-ups, heartache, devastation, health issues, eating disorders, abuse, addictions, and the list goes on. Living in the now is what works for me. If you are not happy with your life as it is now, perhaps modifying just one viewpoint or outlook can help you discover and live your lifes purpose. Isnt it worth at least giving it a shot to reap the rewards the same way we did. We all have a past, but we need to focus on the present. My hope is that you recognize a piece of yourself in one of us and realize that if we can change our lives for the better; you can too! ANYONE CAN!

Book excerpt: Exploiting the natural rhythms of traditional English poetry along with the power of rhyme, G. F. McHugh brings a modern perspective to comic verse, whether the subject be primitive cave dwellers evocative of the Neanderthals, the aged inhabitants of an English village, or a miscellany of weird characters. The unlikely relationship of these varied folk to modern awareness is evoked in brief, hard-hitting poems that must produce, in readers young and mature, an irreverent chuckle.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It's been a year since the death of Ms. Essie Mae Richardson, the elderly pillar of the Braxton Parks community. Before her untimely demise, Essie's prayers brought redemption to many of her neighborhood's problems; but now the impact of her death and the unfinished business that it left behind is threatening to unravel all that she prayed so hard for God to mend. While Colin Stephens still enjoys a blissful marriage to his wife, Angel, unbeknownst to him, she is wrestling with the guilt and regret of never saying goodbye to the woman she loved like a mother. And while their guards are down, a voice from Ms. Essie's past steps in and threatens to steal the security that the Stephenses have taken for granted. To Jennifer's relief, her fifteenyearold son, Jerrod, was saved from gangrelated activities by Ms. Essie's love and guidance. But now, just when it seems that the teenager is on a winning track, he's blindsided by more trouble than the streets could have ever offered. Through prayers and patience, Elaine Demps gained her husband's forgiveness for her infidelities, but after more than a year, she can't understand why he still hasn't moved back into the bedroom with her. Love tells her to give him more time, but loneliness pushes her back to the mindset that sent her searching for love in all the wrong places. Ms. Essie taught them that everything happens according to God's perfect timing, but to those left behind, it seems that the timing of Ms. Essie's death was all too soon. How will they keep from falling apart without the glue that held them together?
