Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Evil lurks in the Motor City and a little known folklore tale is revealed! The Nain Rouge, translated from The "Red Dwarf" made his home near the narrow straits in an area the later French settlers were to name "Detroit". The Nain Rouge was responsible for keeping harmony and balance in the natural world but when Antoine de Mothe Cadillac and French settlers arrived in the 1600s, a quarrel began and soon this turned into an angry brawl. It is said that as The Nain Rouge was chased away, a curse was flung from his lips onto the entire region of Detroit. The curse, it is rumored, befalls anyone who creates evil of their own will, empowering the Nain Rouge with greater and greater strength throughout the centuries. And during the course of these centuries he has appeared to unsuspecting residences just prior to tragedy or misery befalling the area. THIS ISSUE: Elly and Tom are two average middle schoolers on a field trip to the Detroit Institute of Arts. But this typical field trip takes a dangerous turn as they encounter a mysterious creature called The Nain Rouge. As the "Steward of Straits", the Nain Rouge was responsible for keeping harmony and balance in the natural world near the straits of the great river in what is Detroit and Windsor Canada. But the early French settlers refused to go along with the old ways of the new world...and the curse of The Nain Rouge began. A Caliber Comics release.

Book excerpt: For over 300 years the Nain Rouge has lived in Detroit. Considered by many to be a malevolent folk character, for years tales have been spun by those who sought to damage his good nature. Having been blamed for anything detrimental that happened to Detroit throughout its history, by those whose motives are nefarious at best, the Nain Rouge has only started to reclaim his stature as a protagonist for Detroit. Over the centuries, he has collected quotes from some of Detroit's finest and some not so fine. This collection of quotes tells the story of Detroit through the voices of its own, reliving earlier times and commenting on the Detroit of today. Through the awareness of these opinions, and remarks, the story of Detroit, its history, its ingenuity, and its contributions to the world are better understood and appreciated.

Book excerpt: From award-winning author Alexander C. Irvine comes a compelling, fantastical riff on history and World War II. Spared fighting in Europe because of a bum hand, Jared wishes he could join the cause, instead of mindlessly sifting clay to be made into golems. But there is something that preys on his dreams: the devilish dwarf known as the Nain Rouge. In his youth, Jared once actually saw the Dwarf—a chilling creature that shows itself to individuals just before their demise. Now the Nain Rouge appears to be coming back for Jared himself. Many have a profound interest in Jared’s childhood run-in with the Dwarf—including a German spy, Jared’s hateful foreman at the golem factory, and a shape-shifting Indian shaman. But what could a simple man who earns a meager living possibly have to do with espionage and dark deeds? While Jared toils invisibly in the bowels of Henry Ford’s plant, the answer is about to reveal itself in a cataclysm of mythic and sinister proportions.
