Many of them subsequently appeared in the Northampton Mercury, and it was only in consequence of the interest they then excited that the Author was induced to issue them in book form. This brief statement is necessary to explain some faults of style and construction arising out of the form in which the various Legends were originally cast, and in great measure published.
