Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A new essay collection by the noted Polish poet For Adam Zagajewski—one of Poland’s great poets—the project of writing, whether it be poetry or prose, is an occasion to advance what David Wojahn has characterized as his “restless and quizzical quest for self-knowledge.” Slight Exaggeration is an autobiographical portrait of the poet, arranged not chronologically but with that same luminous quality that distinguishes Zagajewski’s spellbinding poetry—an affinity for the invisible. In a mosaic-like blend of criticism, reflections, European history, and aphoristic musings, Zagajewski tells the stories of his life in glimpses and reveries—from the Second World War and the occupation of Poland that left his family dispossessed to Joseph Brodsky’s funeral on the Venetian island of San Michele—interspersed with intellectual interrogations of the writers and poets (D. H. Lawrence, Giorgos Seferis, Zbigniew Herbert, Paul Valéry), composers and painters (Brahms, Rembrandt), and modern heroes (Helmuth James Graf von Moltke) who have influenced his work. A wry and philosophical defense of mystery, Slight Exaggeration recalls Zagajewski’s poetry in its delicate negotiation between the earthbound and the ethereal, “between brief explosions of meaning and patient wandering through the plains of ordinary days.” With an enduring inclination to marvel, Zagajewski restores the world to us—necessarily incomplete and utterly astonishing.

Book excerpt: Will Jake be able to rescue his beloved sister Anna and his parents from the dangerous Goblins? Will Julie find out whether her daunting dreams come true? This book contains five stories in four different languages (Portuguese, French, German and English) that have been written by students of SIS Swiss International Schools worldwide. The stories emerged in the context of the Interschool Activity 2017 and demonstrate the students' creativity, vivid imagination and fine sense for language. Each narrative contains four chapters, contributed by four different groups of various class levels (from preschool to grade 10). Not only the stories themselves deserve a closer look, the storytellers' handmade illustrations make the book come alive. Detailed landscapes and colourful drawings of animals, heroes and fortresses make the stories even more vivid.

Book excerpt: It is our hope that this volume will serve to document both the history of the Collegium Phaenomenologicum during its first ten years as well as some of the philosophical work that has grown out of the annual gatherings in Perugia. The Introduction narrates the history and is supplemented by the Appendices, in which the programs and the participants for each of the ten years are listed. The essays, on the other hand, present in more finished form work that was developed in connection with courses, lectures, or seminars conducted during the first ten years of the Collegium. Giuseppina Moneta John Sallis Jacques Taminiaux Introduction The Collegium Phaenomenologicum in Its First Ten Years GIUSEPPINA C. MONETA The idea of the Collegium Phaenomenologicum first took shape in a conversa tion that I had with Werner Marx at his home in Bollschweil in the Spring of 1975. Previously I had thought of the possibility of a gathering of phenom enologists somewhere in Italy during the summer months. And when I ex plained to Werner Marx that it would not be difficult to find accommodation for such a gathering in a Franciscan monastery in Umbria, he responded enthusiastically and assured me that such a project would have the support of the Husserl Archives in Leuven and in Freiburg.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Intended for those who earnestly seek spiritual guidance, this book conveys, with clear structure and precise language, the deepest wisdom of eastern and western mysticism. Drawing from his vast experience as a practicing meditation master, and using examples from great masters of Zen and Christian mysticism, Wolfgang Kopp presents the fundamental elements necessary for a successful journey to inner freedom. The reader is instructed directly, as though he or she is under the present guidance of the author. As closely as the written world permits, the reader experiences the compassionate love and spiritual power that otherwise could be felt only in the immediate presence of a great enlightened master. Free Yourself of Everything will lead readers to that extraordinary experience where the belief in a conceptual God is replaced by enlightenment in one's own mind.
