Book excerpt: Part memoir and part philosophical look at why we travel, filled with stories of Matt Kepnes' adventures abroad, an exploration of wanderlust and what it truly means to be a nomad. New York Times bestselling author of How to Travel the World on $50 a Day, Matthew Kepnes knows what it feels like to get the travel bug. After meeting some travelers on a trip to Thailand in 2005, he realized that living life meant more than simply meeting society's traditional milestones. Over 500,000 miles, 1,000 hostels, and 90 different countries later, Matt has compiled his favorite stories, experiences, and insights into this travel manifesto. Filled with the color and perspective that only hindsight and self-reflection can offer, these stories get to the real questions at the heart of wanderlust. Travel questions that transcend the basic "how-to," and plumb the depths of what drives us to travel — and what extended travel around the world can teach us about life, ourselves, and our place in the world. Ten Years a Nomad is a heartfelt comprehension of the insatiable craving for travel, unraveling the authenticity of being a vagabond, not for months but for a fulfilling decade.

Book excerpt: Learn about the history of Uluru, also known as Ayres Rock, in Australia with iMinds Travel's insightful fast knowledge series. Uluru is the indigenous Australian name for an enormous rock formation found in central Australia. Made from sandstone, Uluru is a rock monolith or an 'island mountain', a formation that geologists refer to as a monadnock. It stands 318 m (986 ft) high and has a circumference of 8 km (5 miles). It is located 335 km (208 mi) south west of the nearest rural centre, the large town of Alice Springs. The site was first mapped by Europeans in 1872 during the construction of the Australian Overland Telegraph Line that linked the northern settlement of Darwin to Port Augusta in South Australia. Uluru was originally named Mount Olga by Ernest Giles. On a separate expedition in 1870, the explorer William Gosse renamed the formation Ayers Rock in honour of the Chief Secretary of South Australia, Sir Henry Ayers. The name was made official until 1992, when it was renamed Uluru/Ayers Rock as an official dual title, honouring both the European and Aboriginal names. Uluru is, as Ernest Giles referred to it in 1872, the world's "most remarkable pebble." iMinds will tell you the story behind the place with its innovative travel series, transporting the armchair traveller or getting you in the mood for discover on route to your destination. iMinds brings targeted knowledge to your eReading device with short information segments to whet your mental appetite and broaden your mind.

Book excerpt: Why Not? After all, no-one had ever done it before. It would be one of the longest of all overland journeys – half way round the world, from the English Channel to Singapore. They knew that several expeditions had already tried it. Some had got as far as the desrts of Persia; a few had even reached the plains of India. But no one had managed to go on from there: over the jungle clad mountains of Assam and across northern Burma to Thailand and Malaya. Over the last 3,000 miles it seemed there were ‘just too many rivers and too few roads'. But no-one really knew … In fact, their problems began much earlier than that. As mere undergraduates, they had no money, no cars, nothing. But with a cool audacity, which was to become characteristic, they set to work – wheedling and cajoling. First, they coaxed the BBC to come up with some film for a possible TV series. They then gently persuaded the manufacturers to lend them two factory-fresh Land Rovers. A publisher was even sweet-talked into giving them an advance on a book. By the time they were ready to go, their sponsors (more than 80 of them) ranged from whiskey distillers to the makers of collapsible buckets. In late 1955, they set off. Seven months and 12,000 miles later, two very weary Land Rovers, escorted by police outriders, rolled into Singapore – to flash bulbs and champagne. Now, fifty years on, their book, ‘First Overland', is republished – with a foreword by Sir David Attenborough. After all, it was he who gave them that film.

This book was released on 2015-06-12 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Australia was the homeland of mysterious stories and legends. The story of “three systers” mountains told about nice sorcererous family, they always helped people. Other story told about twelve apostles, they stood on the beach. However time and storms had removed few apostles out to ocean. Now, only 8 or 9 apostles were standing on the beach. Also, the telling of Loch Ard Gorge with lovers got the second part with new details. Stories of meeting points…Without stories, legends and tellings, then stone was stone, mountain was mountain, bridge was bridge. When stories and legends were added then mountain, stone, river, buildings, tree…had souls and spirits. They became more attractive. Perhaps stories of today will become legends after next hundred years. The book was a collection of my experience, impression and feeling of my journey in Australia, the country of meeting points. It included joy, worry, anxiety, surprise and disappointment, suddenness and interest…in Australia. It was the feeling of Melbourne, the green city and its interesting night, “the capital of thickets” - Canberra, busy Sydney, impression of visa, kanguroo, koala and penguin…“Author's confidence” and “Short extracts of other travels” were the last in the book. It was the open finish of this book. The writing was my prayer for peace in the earth, finish bombs, children have many foods, nobody is poverty-stricken, everybody can travel… Please read stories in this book “Travel in Australia, the country of meeting points”. Every story was every interesting meeting point.

Book excerpt: Kollin L. Taylor went on a business trip to Australia in July, 2013. However, before he had even gotten off the plane, he was inspired to begin writing about the magnificent continent. But the purpose of his trip was also a part of his walk with God as he tries to help make the world a better place, even if all he had to offer at times was the greeting of the day and a smile. One of the most memorable parts of his trip was the time spent with an aborigine named Murruppi, the artist who donated the artwork on the cover and inside of this book.
