Download or read book Toy Box Leadership written by Ron Hunter and published by HarperChristian + ORM. This book was released on 2009-08-31 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reach back into your childhood and recapture the leadership principles you learned from your favorite toys. Authors Ron Hunter and Michael E. Waddell take a nostalgic look back into their childhood toy boxes to revisit the valuable leadership and life lessons we all unintentionally learned during playtime. While these lessons started in fun, as adults, we’ve complicated the principles of leadership - cluttering them with popular trends and theories. Toy Box Leadership clears away the clutter and takes listeners back to the simple and essential roots of the most effective and unchanging leadership best practices. In this book, you will learn: what Lego bricks can teach you about building your business through connection; how Slinky Dog demonstrates the value of patience when you're growing your organization; what every kid learned from the Little Green Army Men that can be used in business strategy; and many more playful and insightful lessons. Whether you still feel young at heart or your childhood seems to be a distant memory, Toy Box Leadership will bring you back to the place where all important life lessons began to reinvigorate your ability to influence and lead others in the playground of life.

Download or read book In The Toy Box written by Sal Panicci and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2022-11-17 with total page 51 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Try retail. They never lay you off," said a very good friend of mine whose perspective I respected since he was going to be a millionaire by the time he was thirty-five. So began my more-than-thirty-year journey of fun and frolic in the service to mankind--and mankind does so want to be serviced. I said goodbye to an "eight thirty to five with an hour for lunch" corporate life and hello to the employment ad titled "Major Retailer." I was bright. I was energetic. I was dependable. I was individual enough to succeed. I embodied all the skills and personal traits required for the job. I wrote my cover letter, singing my praises just enough without coming off as a braggart. I listed all my corporate accomplishments. I felt that eventually I could regain a future in the corporate world, but by nature, I wasn't really a desk person. I need to move and be physical. On the same day, three weeks after mailing my resume to the major retailer, I heard two sets of fate-filled words: "We will have your last check ready in two weeks" (from my New Jersey Unemployment contact) and "Salvatore? Hi, I'm Joe Cortez. You answered an ad in The Star-Ledger for a training program. I'd like you to come in so we can explore your options." My Unemployment appointment was at 9:00 a.m., and the other words were uttered at 8:00 p.m. That 8:00 p.m. phone call should have given me a hint of the amount of hours required that were in store for me ("in store"), but I had never worked in retail. The truth was, at this point in my career, I didn't have a future in the corporate world. I hadn't for the past six months. And now, since my unemployment was about to run out, I made the appointment. The "major retailer," I discovered, was Toys"R"Us. Joe said I had a future. He was correct. My association with TRU lasted more than twenty-five years, and it has now made me a published author as well. I hope you enjoy In the Toy Box, this first part of my Toys"R"Us journey.

Book Synopsis Bootstraps Need Boots by : Hugh Segal
Download or read book Bootstraps Need Boots written by Hugh Segal and published by On Point Press. This book was released on 2019-11-01 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For more than four decades, Hugh Segal has been one of the leading voices of progressive conservatism in Canada. A self-described Red Tory warrior who disdains “bootstrap” approaches to poverty, he has worked tirelessly to bring about policies that support the most economically vulnerable in society. Central to his life's work has been the championing of a basic annual income for all Canadians. Why would a life-long Tory support something so radical? In this revealing memoir, Segal shares how his life and experiences brought him to this most unlikely of places. He traces a trajectory from his childhood in a poor immigrant family in working-class Montreal to his time as a chief of staff for Prime Minister Mulroney and to his more recent work as an advisor on a basic income for the Ontario Liberal government. Along the way, he has worked across party lines to promote an anti-poverty agenda. This book is a passionate argument not only for why a basic annual income makes economic sense, but for why it is the right thing to do.

He captures childhood experiences, where the child has many first-time encounters and feels the joy of surprise in a world of daily adventure. The story unfolds around the life of a little boy caught up in the controlling influence of circumstances involving his parents and extended family, which culminates in the loss of all that he holds dear. A gradual and increasingly longer separation from his mother begins at three, until at five he suddenly is removed far away. In this story of undying hope, a little boy determines to endure his circumstances, and accepting his fate, learns the value of compassion, wisdom, and humility. He chooses to have faith in God, while accepting the ambiguity and ultimate mystery of life and existence. Sadness at times and loss may be inescapable in life, but the benefit at any age is priceless strength and endurance.
