Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Iniquity can be thousand whereas religion cannot be. Iniquity is disease, religion is health. Therefore, religion can be only one. And on the day when only religion will be eternal on mankind, on that day we will be free from the misunderstandings being created in the name of religion. Now this modern man, in this twenty first century needs a new policy on new grounds. This new policy is based on knowledge, not on fear. This new policy will stand on the point that today's man should understand that being moral is joyful and healthy for him. It is in his personal interest to be ethical. It is not for fear of any future. It is not for the sake of any heaven after death in fact it is the taste of being moral today on this earth and the one who is immoral is cutting his own feet with his hands. It is not like that the one who is immoral will go to hell in future, but in fact is creating hell for himself today. When a man is in complete anger, the amount of poison that spreads in his blood is hundred times enough to kill a man. We have to make this a part of our knowledge. Now the morality of the future will be part of our knowledge. We have to make love and awareness a part of our knowledge too. Without destination, if there is a way, it will be meaningless and inconsistent. Because the path which does not lead to any destination is very difficult to be named. One day the path has to accept its destination as well. And remember nothing can be achieved without any aim.

Book excerpt: “River of Fire is Sister Helen’s story leading up to her acclaimed book Dead Man Walking—it is thought-provoking, informative, and inspiring. Read it and it will set your heart ablaze!”—Mark Shriver, author of Pilgrimage: My Search for the Real Pope Francis The nation’s foremost leader in efforts to abolish the death penalty shares the story of her growth as a spiritual leader, speaks out about the challenges of the Catholic Church, and shows that joy and religion are not mutually exclusive. Sister Helen Prejean’s work as an activist nun, campaigning to educate Americans about the inhumanity of the death penalty, is known to millions worldwide. Less widely known is the evolution of her spiritual journey from praying for God to solve the world’s problems to engaging full-tilt in working to transform societal injustices. Sister Helen grew up in a well-off Baton Rouge family that still employed black servants. She joined the Sisters of St. Joseph at the age of eighteen and was in her forties when she had an awakening that her life’s work was to immerse herself in the struggle of poor people forced to live on the margins of society. Sister Helen writes about the relationships with friends, fellow nuns, and mentors who have shaped her over the years. In this honest and fiercely open account, she writes about her close friendship with a priest, intent on marrying her, that challenged her vocation in the “new territory of the heart.” The final page of River of Fire ends with the opening page of Dead Man Walking, when she was first invited to correspond with a man on Louisiana’s death row. River of Fire is a book for anyone interested in journeys of faith and spirituality, doubt and belief, and “catching on fire” to purpose and passion. It is a book, written in accessible, luminous prose, about how to live a spiritual life that is wide awake to the sufferings and creative opportunities of our world. “Prejean chronicles the compelling, sometimes-difficult journey to the heart of her soul and faith with wit, honesty, and intelligence. A refreshingly intimate memoir of a life in faith.”—Kirkus Reviews

Book excerpt: One of the great spiritual writers of our times, Jim Palmer, is calling for anarchy - inner anarchy! Since 2005, Palmer has been exploring the terrain of spirituality beyond the mindsets of organized religion, and has written four books, including the widely acclaimed works, Divine Nobodies, and Notes from (Over) the Edge. In his provocative new book Inner Anarchy, Palmer shows how the Christian religion has twisted the true life and message of Jesus, and has preached a powerless gospel that is preventing millions of people from being free. He challenges the reader to inner anarchy, "We must dethrone and tear down the mindsets and ideologies that are ruling our world from within us and taking us further down a road of certain doom." Whether you are a Christian, Atheist, or whatever religious or spiritual background you may have, Palmer offers a hopeful place for all human beings to explore the possibility of birthing a new reality in our world. He writes, "Jesus announced the inauguration of a new age-the likes of which we have never seen but have dreamed of. His words are compelling and fascinating. He implied that this age is hidden in the human heart and is now ready to be birthed into existence. Jesus said it would come in the midst of great turmoil and would be led not by religious preachers and Bible scholars, but by those who open up their minds, become like a child and trust what is deep inside their hearts.""Inner Anarchy is not a book; it's smelling salts." - Jacob Byrne"An admonition to the Christian church, an invitation to birth a new world, and a challenge to tear down what is ruling us from within." - Maria Armstrong "...brings God out of the sky to the center of our lives. Inner Anarchy shows the way to the future." - Jim High"It has changed everything I thought I knew about God." - Byron Johnson "Remember the sixties? Inner Anarchy could spark a movement that finishes the job!" - Carson Kavanagh "Gritty. Deep. A message to rattle your cage, and change the world." - Lucas Farrell "... will speak to you at your core and trust the truths that lie within you." - Reuben Goff

In reviewing Watchman Nee's life we can easily notice four distinct stages in his spiritual journey. The first stage covers the years from 1920 to 1928: from his regeneration to his basic spiritual training. The second stage comprises the years from 1928 to 1942: the period from the expansion of the work to his withdrawal from ministry. The third stage encompasses the years from 1942 to 1952: that is, from brother Nee's withdrawal from ministry to his captivity by the Chinese Communists. The final stage covers the years from 1952 to 1972: from his arrest and imprisonment to his death. All four stages are clearly reflected in either brother Nee's writings or his spoken ministry.

Book excerpt: A clarion call for interfaith dialogue in the U.S., this “splendid exposition of non-Christian approaches to God . . . encourages an increased religious literacy that . . . will contribute richness and diversity to our national identity” (Publishers Weekly) In this tenth-anniversary edition of Encountering God, religious scholar Diana Eck shows why dialogue with people of other faiths remains crucial in today’s interdependent world—globally, nationally, and even locally. As the director of the Pluralism Project—which seeks to map the new religious diversity of the United States, from Hinduism and Buddhism to Islam—she reveals how her own encounters with other religions have shaped and enlarged her Christian faith toward a bold new Christian pluralism.

To conspiracy theorists, Opus Dei is a highly secretive and powerful international organization. To its members, however, Opus Dei is a spiritual path, a way of incorporating the teachings of Jesus into everyday life. In Ordinary Work, Extraordinary Grace, Scott Hahn, a member of Opus Dei, describes the organization’s founding, its mission, and its profound influence on his life. Hahn recounts the invaluable part Opus Dei played in his conversion from Evangelical Christianity to Catholicism and explains why its teachings remain at the center of his life. Through stories about his job, his marriage, his role as a parent, and his community activities, Hahn shows how Opus Dei’s spirituality enriches the meaning of daily tasks and transforms ordinary relationships. He offers inspiring insights for reconciling spiritual and material goals, discussing topics ranging from ambition, workaholism, friendship, and sex, to the place of prayer and sacrifice in Christianity today. Engaging and enlightening, Ordinary Work, Extraordinary Grace is at once a moving personal story and an inspiring work of contemporary spirituality.

Book excerpt: The Critical Journey, at its core, is a description of the spiritual journey: our response to our faith in God with the resulting changes that follow. In this book, authors Janet O. Hagberg and Robert A. Guelich address the following issues: the struggle to find meaning and wholeness the crisis of values and identity at mid-life the quest for self-actualization the healing of early religious experiences questions about the spiritual journey Their goal is to help us understand where we are on our individual faith journeys and also appreciate where others are in theirs. The Critical Journey does not reveal exactly how or when we need to move along in our personal pilgrimages, nor does it offer formulas for spiritual growth. Rather, it describes six phases of the spiritual journey and illustrates how people act and think while in these stages. This is an excellent guide for those who are wrestling with their faith and wondering how others have resolved their "dark nights of the soul." Here is an answer for those who have wondered why everyone doesn't respond in the same manner to the message of the Gospel.

Book excerpt: "Join former NBC newsman and Meet the Press moderator David Gregory as he probes various religious traditions to better understand his own faith and answer life's most important questions: who do we want to be and what do we believe? While David was covering the White House, he had the unusual experience of being asked by President George W. Bush "How's your faith?" David's answer was just emerging. Raised by a Catholic mother and a Jewish dad, he had a strong sense of Jewish cultural and ethnic identity, but no real belief--until his marriage to a Protestant woman of strong faith inspired him to explore his spirituality for himself and his growing family. David's journey has taken him inside Christian mega-churches and into the heart of Orthodox Judaism. He's gone deep into Bible study and asked tough questions of America's most thoughtful religious leaders, including evangelical preacher Joel Osteen and Cardinal Timothy Dolan, the Catholic Archbishop of New York. It has brought him back to his childhood, where belief in God might have helped him through his mother's struggle with alcoholism, and through a difficult period of public scrutiny and his departure from NBC News, which saw his faith tested like never before. David approaches his faith with the curiosity and dedication you would expect from a journalist accustomed to holding politicians and Presidents accountable. But he also comes as a seeker, one just discovering why spiritual journeys are always worthwhile"--

After spending eight years in a monastery, Joseph Dispenza walked away from his life as a monk—and the religion of his youth—in search of a different kind of spiritual path. Outside the confines of organized religion, Dispenza was able to create a spiritual life that gives direction and meaning to all he does and all he is. God on Your Own is a book for anyone who has left (or is thinking of leaving) organized religion but wants to continue on a spiritual path. Dispenza, a noted author and retreat leader, provides a spiritual road map for those who want to make the transition from conventional religion toward a richer and more satisfying direct relationship with the Source, without rules, dogmas, or doctrines. Throughout the book, Dispenza offers wise, compassionate guidance, speaking as one seeker to another. He has made this journey himself, gleaning spiritual truth from across traditions and practices.

Professor Worrell presents his agnostic journey as a cultural Christian to answer both aspects of this important question beginning with his early college days. This autobiographical account from faith to doubt includes personal, academic, philosophical, administrative, and anecdotal experiences throughout his career as a social scientist over the years. Executives will be interested in the inclusion by the author of an early program initiated by an AT&T executive and directed by the University of Pennsylvania faculty and their selected prominent guests who emphasize the importance of the literary arts as a factor to enhance decision making for top managers. Moreover, all readers may see avenues to broaden their own perspectives or to pursue other genres. Mr. Worrell’s memoir uniquely introduces the reader to a dialogue with his friend Paul R. (Bob) Indrome in an attempt to provide some humor throughout the presentation of his journey. This odyessey can be read in one sitting, or in days and weeks, depending upon reflection? It is only the author’s reflection of his journey. What questions do you ponder from time to time throughout your own journey of life?
