Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from My Quaker Maid Gallop! gallop! gallop! rode two men in the spring time of their lives, and the spring of the year as it smiles on Northern Maryland. All the sweet odors of the new-turned soil, and the fragrance of the first orchards, swept past them, and the pink petals of peach trees made rosy spots near and far through the clearings. But neither of the gentlemen riders, nor the slender colored boy with a portmanteau pegging along in their rear, gave aught of heed to the road side beauties. Occasionally one or the other would glance back over shoulder when some eminence was reached, but their speed was only checked where a hamlet was passed; a field where curious farmers rested on their plow handles to stare at the unusual strangers traveling along the back road; for a bit unusual they certainly appeared to the rural eye, despite the red clay of the country on man and beast. Their horses were magnificent animals - to be given notice for their breeding anywhere, and their equipment was in keeping; while the fine gray coats of their riders could not all conceal the costume of men of fashion in the fifties. Book Synopsis Clementine Classics: Sister Carrie by : Clementine The Hedgehog
Download or read book Clementine Classics: Sister Carrie written by Clementine The Hedgehog and published by Catapult. This book was released on 2014-11-15 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sometimes reading the classics is a chore, but not so with the snarky annotations by Clementine the Hedgehog. Having made her debut as a weekly book reviewer of note on Tumblr in 2012, Clem now takes on Sister Carrie by Theodore Dreiser. On each page, she inserts her keen insights, dark sense of humor, and cut–the–crap commentary, crafting a 21st–century literary criticism for distraction addicts everywhere. "This is obviously my favorite review to date, as it was WRITTEN BY A HEDGEHOG, and COMES WITH A HEDGEHOG GIF."—Emma Straub "Tumblr book review series of the year."—Rachel Fershleiser, head of Tumblr literary outreach Clementine Classics, a new series from Black Balloon Publishing, gives classic works of literature the contemporary annotations they deserve. Obsessed, possessed, and thoroughly distressed by the originals, today's writers riff, rant, praise, and flay these old books, giving them new life. The series' beautifully designed e–books are both an act of sincere literary criticism and a new, composite form of humor writing.

Download or read book Plant Dreaming Deep written by May Sarton and published by Open Road Media. This book was released on 2014-07-22 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author’s tribute to the 18th-century New England farmhouse she called home: “[A] tender and often poignant book by a woman of many insights” (The New York Times Book Review). In Plant Dreaming Deep, Sarton shares an intensely personal account of transforming a house into a home. She begins with an introduction to the enchanting village of Nelson, where she first meets her house. Sarton finds she must “dream the house alive” inside herself before taking the major step of signing the deed. She paints the walls white in order to catch the light and searches for the precise shade of yellow for the kitchen floor. She discovers peace and beauty in solitude, whether she is toiling in the garden or writing at her desk. This is a loving, beautifully crafted memoir illuminated by themes of friendship, love, nature, and the struggles of the creative life. This ebook features an extended biography of May Sarton.
