Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a first time parent of adopted infants, Terrell faced multiple questions of not only how to be a new parents and father, but also how to explain to his sons that they are adopted and what that means. He searched for direction at the library, multiple seminars and educational classes and found them to be little help. The best advice he found was to always use proper and consistent terms and to keep his messages short and simple. Terrell and his sons visited his ranch frequently and became enamored with the cattle and the calves. Terrell made up stories for his sons that would continue every night at bedtime. One night he decided to make up a story about a baby calf whose mother couldn't take care of him and who went through the pasture looking for another Mommy to adopt her newborn baby. Upon request by his boys he found himself repeating the story on a nightly basis. When his boys were old enough to ask why they had different skin, why their eyes were a different color, and why they didn't look the same as he did he found himself a simple answer, because you are adopted. They instantly related it to the story and never questioned what adoption was, his love for them, the love of their birth mother and the circumstances as to why they were adopted. Because of their response and total amount of comfort with adoption Terrell wanted to share this story with other adoptive parents.

Book excerpt: What could toddlers be thinking and feeling as they wean from breastfeeding? Depending on age and development, some might not be able to express what they think and feel with words. In My Milk Will Go, Our Love Will Grow, we hear a toddler's questions and feelings during an honest conversation between mother and child. This heartwarming book uses rhyme, short sentences, and beautiful illustrations to convey a message of love and reassurance as the child learns that mother will still nurture and meet both physical and emotional needs when breastfeeding ends. This book will be a special keepsake for both mothers and children, showing the beauty of the nursing relationship. Weaning can be difficult with or without a children's book about weaning. However, the stress of weaning can be lessened when mothers have a resource to help toddlers acknowledge and understand this significant transition. The book was written to help mothers talk to toddlers about weaning. It can be helpful during the weaning process, and it can help newly weaned toddlers and toddlers with a new nursing sibling. All mothers who have breastfed a baby may want to have this book to represent the beautiful nurturing they offered their children. My Milk Will Go, Our Love Will Grow was written in rhyme, making it a unique weaning book. It can be used as a helpful tool to assist toddlers, and, as a special keepsake for mothers and their children. It has 38 pages, each with illustrations by Sheila Fein. Toddlers will be drawn to the colorful, realistic illustrations of mother and child. The book also includes a page of tips to help parents use the book in a variety of ways to support toddlers.

Book excerpt: A candid, feminist, and personal deep dive into the science and culture of pregnancy and motherhood Like most first-time mothers, Angela Garbes was filled with questions when she became pregnant. What exactly is a placenta and how does it function? How does a body go into labor? Why is breast best? Is wine totally off-limits? But as she soon discovered, it’s not easy to find satisfying answers. Your obstetrician will cautiously quote statistics; online sources will scare you with conflicting and often inaccurate data; and even the most trusted books will offer information with a heavy dose of judgment. To educate herself, the food and culture writer embarked on an intensive journey of exploration, diving into the scientific mysteries and cultural attitudes that surround motherhood to find answers to questions that had only previously been given in the form of advice about what women ought to do—rather than allowing them the freedom to choose the right path for themselves. In Like a Mother, Garbes offers a rigorously researched and compelling look at the physiology, biology, and psychology of pregnancy and motherhood, informed by in-depth reportage and personal experience. With the curiosity of a journalist, the perspective of a feminist, and the intimacy and urgency of a mother, she explores the emerging science behind the pressing questions women have about everything from miscarriage to complicated labors to postpartum changes. The result is a visceral, full-frontal look at what’s really happening during those nine life-altering months, and why women deserve access to better care, support, and information. Infused with humor and born out of awe, appreciation, and understanding of the female body and its strength, Like a Mother debunks common myths and dated assumptions, offering guidance and camaraderie to women navigating one of the biggest and most profound changes in their lives.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Ticket to He . . . is the true story of how Wanda Schnebly and her familys lives were thrust into turmoil and grief because of medical malpractice and what they did to survive and find joy again. There are three powerful elements in her story. One is the medical fiasco that destroyed Kelly Schneblys life and the resulting malpractice lawsuit. Its award of $1,044,000 was the largest judgment to a minor in the nation and was a catalyst for the medical malpractice panic that started in the seventies and continues yet today. The second is the inspiring struggle of how Wanda led volunteers in her community to build a pilot exemplary educational and residential program locally for children like Kelly. It started in her home as a day care program for four children and continues today in six Iowa communities serving nearly two hundred persons. Its 2008 annual report lists income of $12,601,936 with expenditures for services of $12,184, 063. See www.krysilis.org. The last is a series of powerful and mysterious paranormal events. She doesnt ask the reader to agree with her; rather, she shares the fears and wonderments of these up-close encounters of life, death, an inner voice, Jesus, nightmares, and other paranormal events, such as the unfinished last word in the title of this book, A Ticket to He . . . Perhaps the finest hours of her story are the ones that share how Kellys spirit broke through his profound and multiple handicaps and touched others. He has a legacy few people achieve. He was a hero, and he inspired others to be heroes too.
