Book Synopsis My Life as an OB-GYN by : Douglas Heritage
Download or read book My Life as an OB-GYN written by Douglas Heritage and published by Atlantic Publishing Company. This book was released on 2016-11-30 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For most women, a visit to the OB-GYN is a dreaded experience. It invokes images of sitting on an examination table in a flimsy, tissue paper gown, of staring nervously at the dreaded “stirrups,” of feeling exposed, of being poked and prodded, and of being asked embarrassing questions about sex and reproduction. If it is a first visit, the patient will inevitably wonder: “What is my doctor really like? Is he cold and clinical or friendly and down to earth? How did he become a doctor? And why?” In a book that is as eye-opening as it is compelling, retired OB-GYN Douglas Edwin Heritage invites us to share the joy, humor, and tragedy of his 43-year career as a medical student, intern, resident, and physician in private practice. Through a series of short vignettes, Heritage leads us through experiences ranging from the unconventional pranks of medical school to the solemnity of pronouncing his first patient. He candidly brings to life the colorful and often bizarre encounters that define the unique medical subculture of obstetrics and gynecology. Stimulating, irreverent, and often droll, My Life as an OB-GYN will delight both practitioners and laymen alike.

Book Synopsis Assume the Position by : Richard Houck
Download or read book Assume the Position written by Richard Houck and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2015-02-01 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Assume the Position: Memoirs of an Obstetrician" will place the reader in the shoes of an Obstetrician and Gynecologist with years of clinical experience and training. It will also place the reader in the same stirrups as patients in my office, listening to the trials, tribulations, joys, and fears expressed to me. All women wonder what other women experience when they see their OB GYN physician. All men wonder what his girlfriend or wife will be subjected to when exposed in front of their 'Gyno'. The stresses and strains of a busy professional life on an Obstetrician Gynecologist are revealed in intimate, true detail. The story begins after early retirement from one of the busiest group practices in Phoenix, Arizona and a move to the beautiful high alpine ski town of Telluride, Colorado, after an ultimatum from my wife. From there the story continues to the depths of Africa to explore women's health care in a small country with some of the worst obstetrical and neonatal outcomes in the world. Timely topics subsequently discussed include office life, operating room experiences, the medical malpractice crisis, abortion, the family life of an obstetrician, labor and delivery, night life, the business of medicine, Obamacare, managed care, and life after private practice. Each chapter is punctuated with true, unfiltered vignettes, laughable, joyful, fearful, and tearful, that can only be found in the life of an OB-GYN physician as he goes throughout his day. I am an actively licensed, American Board Certified Obstetrician Gynecologist. A graduate of Princeton University, I was trained at two of the top medical institutions in Philadelphia, after which my wife and I picked up our East Coast roots and moved to begin anew in the desert of Arizona. After 21 years of private practice, involved in all aspects of practice management and women's health care and research, I chose to leave it all behind and begin a second career in expert witness medical malpractice testimony, and then a third career as a medical director. I believe you will enjoy the experience of spending some time in my shoes.

Book Synopsis NO POT, NO WINDOW Or ?How I Changed My Life from Sour Lemons to Sweet Lemonade? by : Mary Burton King
Download or read book NO POT, NO WINDOW Or ?How I Changed My Life from Sour Lemons to Sweet Lemonade? written by Mary Burton King and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2010-05-24 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: No Pot, No Window is a true story about my life starting in the year 1951 when I was born in Marshall, Texas, to poor, uneducated parents. This book is intended to be a motivator and inspiration to all the people struggling to survive financially as I did for the majority of my life. The expression ?no pot, no window? means you are so poor that you don?t have a pot to pee in or a window to throw it out. I believe poverty, lack of education, a negative home environment, alcohol and/or drug abuse, bad judgment, a single parent home, disease/illness, and sometimes just plain bad luck keeps the syndrome of ?no pot, no window? perpetuating generation after generation. My abusive alcoholic father abandoned my two sisters and me when I was nine years old, and my codependent mother was absent from my life for many years. After my father left and my parents divorced, my mother spent the rest of her life looking for another husband to support her. She was married nine times and never did find her Prince Charming, just another drunk she met at a bar and dragged home. When I was ten years old, my mother sent my two sisters and me to live with her parents for over three years, and during this period she was completely absent from our lives. My maternal grandparents, who were survivors of the Great Depression of 1929, were very tight with their money and affection. They really did not want to raise three young children but decided we would be a valuable asset as farmhands on their five-acre farm. My mother came back into my life when I was thirteen years old and the saga of stepfathers began. At the age of sixteen, I had a job, a car, and was self-sufficient. Unfortunately, I was also a juvenile delinquent because I had little or no parental supervision. For lack of any other options, I joined the military in 1969, during the height of the Vietnam War, and began the long journey of becoming an adult. Due to my immaturity and poor judgment, I was married and divorced three times before the age of thirty and became a single parent to my only child. When I was thirty-two years old, I was diagnosed with Stage II breast cancer and spent the next five years struggling to stay alive physically and financially. With the assistance of the military, I was able to obtain my bachelor of arts degree from the University of Mississippi in 1982 and a masters of forensic science from George Washington University in 1986. After twenty-one years of active duty service, I subsequently retired as a lieutenant from the United States Navy in 1993. I refused to accept and was able to overcome the ?no pot, no window? plight because of my perseverance, hard work, and most importantly, advanced education. I changed my life from sour lemons to sweet lemonade!

In his pediatric surgery practice, he heals through the Holy Spirit every day. In My Life with God, he presents a compilation of against-all-odds spiritually and metaphysically-based true stories that demonstrate how God and the spirit move in and work through our lives. Gallucci offers a supernatural journey of healing the heart, mind, body, and soul. He shares the essence of what it means to live and work in a spiritual-metaphysical world of healing while rendering gold standard surgical care to premature infants, babies, and children. Book Synopsis God's Interventions in My Life by : Carmen Vaughn
Download or read book God's Interventions in My Life written by Carmen Vaughn and published by Covenant Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2024-04-18 with total page 95 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is not your typical book. I am not here to preach or give you a cliché perspective on life. We have heard it all. I wrote this book to share some of the many lessons I have learned throughout my life. Through these stories, I have been able to show my family and friends a different perspective on how to operate in life through God’s help. It includes some of my stories that are my daughters’ favorites for me to tell. They are from middle school, high school, college, and adulthood. The goal is to display how He has turned bad situations around for the good, even “okay” situations into better ones, in a relatable manner that people can connect to. I have seen how God can show up in our everyday lives, even when you least expect it. Through this book and all my stories, I want to show the sovereignty of God’s love and greatness in our day-to-day lives—some good, some funny, and some quite unique.
