Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On earth nothing comes out of nothing. So where does love come from? Do time, planets and circumstances bring or beget from the cosmic dust, love? From cosmic dust in destiny’s womb. Does it always come from above? The love that makes our lives worthwhile, even if now and then it changes its style. It is the only thing worth living for, even if, in some lives it comes only once and no more. (From Is love something? Poem) During his lifetime, Rod Berg Schonenberg was a devoted high school teacher who documented his life experiences and penned hundreds of poems in five languages. In a volume of poems shared posthumously by his daughter, Mr. Schonenberg reflects on old and new loves and all the complications and joys that accompany relationships as two souls intertwine and attempt to find a way to move forward in life together. Throughout his presentation, Mr. Schonenberg reminds us of the true beauty that lies within the heart and the hope that can be found even during the most challenging of times. My Father’s Poems -English- Volume I shares poetry penned over a lifetime that provides lyrical insight into all that comprises loving another.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the dramatic and tragic years of World War II, the Hungarian poet Lajos Walder was probably looking for a broader expression of his philosophical beliefs than poetry seemed to allow. Following Huxley, Aragon and Celine, he turned to prose. Drawing on his education in Greek and his love of theatre he penned plays with '... insights so pertinent, that they seem universally valid some six and a half decades later'. Lajos Walder (1913-1945) was a well-known poet in 1930s Budapest, but his plays, written in the early 1940s, were not known until 1990 when they were first published in Hungarian and described by a major critic as '... uniquely beautiful creations of an original mind'. Lajos Walder died on 7 May 1945, the day of liberation and just four hours after walking out of the Death Camp of Gunskirchen: he was not yet 32 years of age. These plays should be staged. In the meantime, they may be read in Agnes Walder's fine translations which evoke the essence and mood of her father's time and capture his expressive literary style.

Book excerpt: Thirty-five years after his death, my father's poem book was discovered. I was intrigued by this glimpse into another world which I hope you will also find a fascinating place to visit. This slender volume will take you on a journey back in time to an era of romance and tragedy and unrequited love. It is a sojourn of the soul, designed to be read by his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family members and others who might be caught up in my father's poetic vision. May every reader find an undiscovered part of themselves within these verses from the past.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Poems of Browning is a multi-volume edition of the poetry of Robert Browning (1812 -1889) resulting from a completely fresh appraisal of the canon, text and context of his work. The poems are presented in the order of their composition and in the text in which they were first published, giving a unique insight into the origins and development of Browning's art. Annotations and headnotes, in keeping with the traditions of Longman Annotated English Poets, are full and informative and provide details of composition, publication, sources and contemporary reception. Volumes one (1826-1840) and two (1841-1846) presented the poems from his early years up to his marriage to Elizabeth Barrett, including the dramatic poem Paracelsus (1835), which first brought him to wide attention, and Sordello (1840), which confirmed him as a poet of ambition and imagination. Volume three (1847-1861) of The Poems of Browning covers the years of Browning's life in Italy with his wife Elizabeth Barrett Browning. During the fifteen years of his marriage and self-imposed exile, Browning produced Christmas-Eve and Easter Day (1850), a major statement of his religious philosophy, and Men and Women (1855), his greatest collection of shorter poems. The poems of Men and Women, like all Browning's work, are steeped in his wide and idiosyncratic knowledge of literature, music, art, history, and popular culture, but a new and distinctive touch comes from the sights, sounds and textures of ordinary life in Italy. Based on a comprehensive study of textual and contextual sources, including a significant amount of hitherto undiscovered or unpublished manuscripts of poems and letters, this volume offers the most complete and informative edition of works that are central to Browning's achievement. In addition, Browning's most important work of critical prose, the Essay on Shelley, is presented in an appendix with full annotation, and poems which refer to specific works of painting or sculpture are illustrated with colour plates. Volumes four presents the poetry Browning produced during the decade following the death of his wife, including Dramatis Personae, which heralded a re-evaluation of his critical reputation, and The Ring and the Book, which many consider to be his greatest work. The Poems of Browning represents the most informative and up-to-date edition of the works of one of England's greatest poets.

Book excerpt: 'The Poetic Genius of my Country...bade me sing the loves, the joys, the rural scenes and rural pleasures of my natal Soil, in my native tongue.' Many of the poems and songs of Robert Burns (1759-96) are familiar to readers the world over: lyrical, acerbic, comic, bawdy, democratic. They include 'To a Mouse', 'John Anderson my Jo', 'A red red Rose', 'Auld lang syne', 'Tam o 'Shanter' and many more, whose vernacular energy and simple beauty have ensured lasting popularity. This generous new selection offers Burns's work as it was first encountered by contemporary readers, presenting the texts in the contexts in which they were originally published. It reproduces the whole of Poems, chiefly in the Scottish Dialect published at Kilmarnock in 1786, the volume which made Burns famous; and it reunites a generous selection of songs from The Scots Musical Museum and A Select Collection of Scottish Airs with their full scores. Comprehensive notes describe the circumstances in which other poems and songs found their way into print, both before and after the poet's death. The edition also includes some important letters, and a full glossary to explain Scots words.
