Book excerpt: 'A brave, beautiful book that could double as a handbook to accompany anyone on their journey through cancer' Jackie Kay, New Statesman The Cancer Journals is an intimate, poetic and invigorating account of the experience of breast cancer, from biopsy to mastectomy, told by the great feminist and activist Audre Lorde. Moving between journal entry, memoir, and essay, Lorde fuses the personal and political to reflect on the many questions breast cancer raises: questions of survival, sexuality, prosthesis and self-care. It is a journey of survival, friendship, and self-acceptance. 'Grief, terror, courage, the passion for survival and for more than survival, are here in the searchings of a great poet' Adrienne Rich 'This book teaches me that with one breast or none, I am still me' Alice Walker

Book Synopsis The Cancer Journals by : Audre Lorde
Download or read book The Cancer Journals written by Audre Lorde and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1980, Audre Lorde's The Cancer Journals offers a profoundly feminist analysis of her experience with breast cancer & a modified radical mastectomy. Moving between journal entry, memoir, & exposition, Lorde fuses the personal & political & refuses the silencing & invisibility that she experienced both as a woman facing her own death & as a woman coping with the loss of her breast. After Lorde died of cancer in 1992, women from all over the U.S. & beyond paid tribute to her in essays & poems. Aunt Lute's special hardcover edition of The Cancer Journals gathers together twelve such tributes as well as a series of six photographs taken of Lorde by photographer Jean Weisinger. Tributes by: Margaret E. Cronin, Linda Cue, Elliot, Ayofemi Folayan, Jewelle Gomez, Margaret Randall, Adrienne Rich, Kate Rushin, Elizabeth Sargent, Ann Allen Shockley, Barbara Smith, & Evelyn White.

Book excerpt: 've been there - I know you are scared. When you are first diagnosed with cancer, processing all of the emotions can be so overwhelming. When I was diagnosed with breast cancer, something that really helped me was writing and that is why I created this journal for YOU. My Cancer Journal is a safe space for you to make sense of the chaos by writing down all of your thoughts and feelings, including anger, fear, and disbelief, but also humour and gratitude (I know right - you can't imagine ever feeling gratitude again... but you will). Use this journal however feels right for you. There is space to write, draw, doodle, or stick things in. There are drawings to colour or puzzles to keep your brain occupied in the waiting room. There are diary prompts and mindfulness exercises. There is space for all the practical, admin stuff that will seem really overwhelming, so it's good to have one place to record it all - appointments, questions, symptoms and side-effects - all the fun stuff. Keeping on top of the day-to-day 'stuff' will hopefully allow you time to be creative and be free to express your emotions, both the positive and negative feelings. There is no right or wrong way to deal with a cancer diagnosis, there is just YOUR way. My Cancer Journal would make a great gift for a loved one who has been recently diagnosed. It's nigh on impossible to know how to really help or what to say. By letting them know you care, you are there whenever they need you, you understand they may need time and space to process the devastating sentence 'I'm afraid is cancer', shows how much they mean to you. Everyone's story is unique. That's what makes us special. One story is not more important than another, just different. You can read my story in my memoir But Seriously, Who Knew?

Book Synopsis My Daily Cancer Journal by : Purple Therapy
Download or read book My Daily Cancer Journal written by Purple Therapy and published by . This book was released on 2021-01-30 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This cancer journal is for those who are still having cancer treatment or who have completed their treatment. It is a journal of encouragement to help them/you see the small things in life that they/you can still enjoy. This book was designed by someone 10 years post chemotherapy treatment for Lymphoma.............me. As you don't have control over the fact that you do have cancer what you want is often some control........over anything ........no matter how small ! Whether it is when you shave your head due to hair loss so you can decide when you lose all your hair ......or what hat to wear today..........these small things give you back a little control over your life. This journal is a distraction from what you/they maybe going through by noting and being 'Mindful' of the good things that you/they notice throughout the day. It can be as small as a lovely cup of coffee......or enjoying colouring a picture...or having an enjoyable conversation. All the small things can add up to several things you enjoyed......enjoying things and seeing positive things in your life is very important when you are going through treatment or starting again after treatment. This book is about taking back control over anything and everything you/they can and noting it. It then can be read on days when you/they don't feel like they can do so much..........the good days can be reviewed from the journal. It is a good size at 8 X 10 inches with 100 pages. Inside it prompts and suggests what you could write about, the inner frontpage states 'when I decide to enjoy the little things in my day I am in control of the small stuff!! My name is:___________ and I am a WARRIOR !!'. The last page inside the journal has pictures of things you could enjoy daily for further prompts of what to write, the back page states 'Look what I have enjoyed today and every day. ******PLEASE LOOK INSIDE***** It has a glossy front cover which carries on the sentiment that the person who is on their cancer journey is actually a 'Warrior' and not a survivor ! Fighting cancer...and it is a fight means each and everyone who has been on this journey is like me a 'Warrior'. This is in a hope of turning the idea away from being a 'victim of cancer'.
