Download or read book The Case for Life (Second edition) written by Scott Klusendorf and published by Crossway. This book was released on 2023-10-24 with total page 315 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pro-Life Advocate Scott Klusendorf Answers the Important Question: "What Are the Unborn?" Pro-life Christians, take heart: the pro-life message can compete in the marketplace of ideas if Christians properly understand and articulate that message. In light of the 50th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, too many Christians do not understand the essential truths of the pro-life position, making it difficult for them to articulate a biblical worldview on issues like abortion, cloning, and embryo research. This second edition of The Case for Life, now with added content, provides intellectual grounding for the pro-life convictions that most evangelicals hold. Author Scott Klusendorf simplifies the debate—the sanctity of life is not a morally complex issue. The debate turns on one key question: What is the unborn? In this timely ebook, Klusendorf teaches readers what the role of the pro-life Christian should be and how to lovingly and winsomely engage in questions and objections. Timely: Covers current hot-button topics related to abortion, cloning, and embryo research Ideal for Christians or Anyone Curious about the Pro-Life Movement: Written for those looking to learn more about the pro-life argument and why it matters Logically Grounded: Klusendorf explains the core of the argument and how to engage in a thoughtful and loving way Additional Content: Includes two new chapters on how to organize material for a pro-life talk and what it means to be pro-life

Download or read book After Roe written by Mary Ziegler and published by Harvard University Press. This book was released on 2015-06-08 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Forty years after the U.S. Supreme Court handed down its decision legalizing abortion, Roe v. Wade continues to make headlines. After Roe: The Lost History of the Abortion Debate cuts through the myths and misunderstandings to present a clear-eyed account of cultural and political responses to the landmark 1973 ruling in the decade that followed. The grassroots activists who shaped the discussion after Roe, Mary Ziegler shows, were far more fluid and diverse than the partisans dominating the debate today. In the early years after the decision, advocates on either side of the abortion battle sought common ground on issues from pregnancy discrimination to fetal research. Drawing on archives and more than 100 interviews with key participants, Ziegler’s revelations complicate the view that abortion rights proponents were insensitive to larger questions of racial and class injustice, and expose as caricature the idea that abortion opponents were inherently antifeminist. But over time, “pro-abortion” and “anti-abortion” positions hardened into “pro-choice” and “pro-life” categories in response to political pressures and compromises. This increasingly contentious back-and-forth produced the interpretation now taken for granted—that Roe was primarily a ruling on a woman’s right to choose. Peering beneath the surface of social-movement struggles in the 1970s, After Roe reveals how actors on the left and the right have today made Roe a symbol for a spectrum of fervently held political beliefs.
Book Synopsis Persuasive Pro-Life: How to Talk about Our Culture's Toughest Issue by : Trent Horn

This book was released on 2014-10-01 with total page 335 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Don't worry-almost everyone is. Either we think the subject is too impolite, or we don't want to be branded an intolerant fanatic, or we worry that we won't represent the pro-life side well enough. You can overcome this fear, says Trent Horn in his new book, Persuasive Pro-Life-With a little knowledge and a few proven techniques, you can become a bold and effective apologist for the unborn. Drawing on over a decade as a pro-life activist Horn helps you cut through the diversions and obfuscations of the "pro-choice" side in order to accurately frame the legal, historical, and medical issues. Using vivid real-life examples, he drives home the critical importance of charity-no matter how loud the debate gets. For we must be not just warriors for the pro-life cause, he says, but ambassadors for it. Then Horn leads you on a guided tour of the many types of pro-abortion opponent or inquirer ("the pragmatist" "the skeptic," "the conflicted"), along with more true stories from the field. In each case he teaches you specific approaches-what to say, what not to say, and how to bear yourself-that are custom-tailored to every situation. The struggle over abortion has never been hotter, and the stakes could not be higher. Read Persuasive Pro-Life today and never again be afraid to speak up for the precious and fundamental right to life. Book jacket.
Download or read book Costly Grace written by Rob Schenck and published by HarperCollins. This book was released on 2018-06-05 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A leading American evangelical minister—whom public figures long turned to for guidance in faith and politics—recounts his three conversions, from childhood Jewish roots to Christianity, from a pure faith to a highly politicized one, and from the religious right to the simplicity of Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount. Rob Schenck’s extraordinary life has been at the center of the intersection between evangelical Christianity and modern politics. Attacked by partisans on both sides of the aisle, he has been called a "right-wing hate monger," the "ultimate D.C. power-broker," a "traitor" and "turncoat." Now, this influential spiritual adviser to America’s political class chronicles his controversial, sometimes troubling career in this revelatory and often shocking memoir. As a teenager in the 1970s, Schenck converted from Judaism to Christianity and found his calling in public ministry. In the 1980s, he, like his twin brother, became a radical activist leader of the anti-abortion movement. In the wake of his hero Ronald Reagan’s rise to the White House, Schenck became a leading figure in the religious right inside the Beltway. Emboldened by his authority and access to the highest reaches of government, Schenck was a zealous warrior, brazenly mixing ministry with Republican political activism—even confronting President Bill Clinton during a midnight Christmas Eve service at Washington’s National Cathedral. But in the past few years Schenck has undergone another conversion—his most meaningful transition yet. Increasingly troubled by the part he played in the corruption of religion by politics, this man of faith has returned to the purity of the gospel. Like Paul on the Road to Damascus, he had an epiphany: revisiting the lessons of love that Jesus imparted, Schenck realized he had strayed from his deepest convictions. Reaffirming his core spiritual beliefs, Schenck today works to liberate the evangelical community from the oppression of the narrowest interpretation of the gospel, and to urge Washington conservatives to move beyond partisan battles and forsake the politics of hate, fear, and violence. As a preacher, he continues to spread the word of the Lord with humility and a deep awareness of his past transgressions. In this moving and inspiring memoir, he reflects on his path to God, his unconscious abandonment of his principles, and his return to the convictions that guide him. Costly Grace is a fascinating and ultimately redemptive account of one man’s life in politics and faith.
Download or read book Won by Love written by Norma McCorvey and published by HarperChristian + ORM. This book was released on 1998-01-05 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Roe v. Wade, perhaps the most controversial United States Supreme Court decision, Norma McCorvey fought for and won the right to secure an abortion. Though she never had an abortion, under the pseudonym "Jane Roe," Norma reluctantly became the poster child for the pro-choice movement. Over the next two decades, Norma experienced the grief and despair of millions of women who chose to abort their babies; she witnessed the destruction of thousands of human lives in abortion clinics where she worked; and the "champion" of the pro-choice movement was soon being crushed by the weight of so much pain, so much death, and so many ill-considered "choices." Finally, she began to break. She found out that the real choice she had been burdened with was not about abortion but about eternal life. It was a choice that would shock the world and change Norma's life forever.

Download or read book Killing for Life written by Carol Mason and published by Cornell University Press. This book was released on 2018-08-06 with total page 263 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How can those who seek to protect the "right to life" defend assassination in the name of saving lives? Carol Mason investigates this seeming paradox by examining pro-life literature—both archival material and writings from the front lines of the conflict. Her analysis reveals the apocalyptic thread that is the ideological link between established anti-abortion organizations and the more shadowy pro-life terrorists who subject clinic workers to anthrax scares, bombs, and bullets. The portrayal of abortion as "America's Armageddon" began in the 1960s. In the 1970s, Mason says, Christian politics and the post-Vietnam paramilitary culture popularized the idea that legal abortion is a harbinger of apocalypse. By the 1990s, Mason asserts, even the movement's mainstream had taken up the call, narrating abortion as an apocalyptic battle between so-called Christian and anti-Christian forces. "Pro-life violence of the 1990s signaled a move away from protest and toward retribution," she writes. "Pro-life retribution is seen as a way to restore the order of God. In this light, the phenomenon of killing for 'life' is revealed not as an oxymoron, but as a logical consistency and a political manifestation of religious retribution."Mason's scrutiny of primary sources (direct mail, internal memoranda, personal letters, underground manuals, and pro-life films, magazines, and novels) draws attention to elements of pro-life millennialism. Killing for Life is a powerful indictment of pro-life ideology as a coherent, mass-produced narrative that does not merely condone violence, but anticipates it as part of "God's plan."

Book Synopsis Handbook for a Post-Roe America by : Robin Marty
Download or read book Handbook for a Post-Roe America written by Robin Marty and published by Seven Stories Press. This book was released on 2019-01-15 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The end of Roe v. Wade is coming. How will you prepare? Handbook for a Post-Roe America is a comprehensive and user-friendly manual for understanding and preparing for the looming changes to reproductive rights law, and getting the healthcare you need—by any means necessary. Activist and writer Robin Marty guides readers through various worst-case scenarios of a post-Roe America, and offers ways to fight back, including: how to acquire financial support, how to use existing networks and create new ones, and how to, when required, work outside existing legal systems. She details how to plan for your own emergencies, how to start organizing now, what to know about self-managed abortion care with pills and/or herbs, and how to avoid surveillance. The only guidebook of its kind, Handbook for a Post-Roe America includes an extensive, detailed resource guide for all pregnant people (whether cis, trans, or non-binary) of clinics, action groups, abortion funds, and practical support groups in each state, so wherever you live, you can get involved. With a newly right-wing Supreme Court and a Republican Senate, Roe is under threat. Robin Marty observes: "When we say abortion will be illegal in half the states in the nation, we are no longer talking about some hypothetical future—we are talking about just years down the road. We have to act now to secure what access remains, shore up the networks supporting those who need care, and decide what risks we are willing to take to ensure that any person who wants a termination can still end that pregnancy—with or without the government's permission."
