Book Synopsis Standard Construction Guidelines for Microtunneling by :
Download or read book Standard Construction Guidelines for Microtunneling written by and published by Amer Society of Civil Engineers. This book was released on 2001-01-01 with total page 41 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Standard Guideline covers the planning, design, pipe materials, and construction of microtunneling. Microtunneling is defined as a trenchless construction method for installing pipelines. The North American definition of microtunneling describes a method and does not impose size limitations on that method. The tunnel may be considered a microtunnel if all of the following features apply to construction: the microtunneling boring machine is remote controlled, a laser guidance system is employed, a jacking system is used for thrust, and continuous pressure is provided to the face of the excavation to balance groundwater and earth pressures. This Standard Guideline is a vital reference for owners, engineers, contractors, and construction managers.

Book Synopsis Trenchless Installation of Conduits Beneath Roadways by : Tom Iseley
Download or read book Trenchless Installation of Conduits Beneath Roadways written by Tom Iseley and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 1997 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This synthesis will be of interest to geologists; geotechnical, construction, and maintenance engineers; other state department of transportation (DOT) personnel involved with the planning, design, and permit issuance for conduits beneath roadways; local transportation agencies; utility contractors and consultants; and trenchless construction equipment manufacturers. It describes the current state of the practice for the use of trenchless technology for installing conduits beneath roadways. Trenchless construction is a process of installing, rehabilitating, or replacing underground utility systems without open-cut excavation. The synthesis is focused on trenchless technology for new installations. This report of the Transportation Research Board describes the trenchless installation technologies (methods, materials, and equipment) currently employed by state DOTs and other agencies to install conduits beneath roadways. The synthesis presents data obtained from a review of the literature and a survey of transportation agencies. For each technology identified, information is provided to describe the range of applications, basis for technique selection, site specific design factors to be considered, relative costs, common environmental issues, and example specifications. In addition, information on emerging technologies and research needs is presented.

Book Synopsis Alternatives for Ground Water Cleanup by : National Research Council
Download or read book Alternatives for Ground Water Cleanup written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1994-02-01 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There may be nearly 300,000 waste sites in the United States where ground water and soil are contaminated. Yet recent studies question whether existing technologies can restore contaminated ground water to drinking water standards, which is the goal for most sites and the result expected by the public. How can the nation balance public health, technological realities, and cost when addressing ground water cleanup? This new volume offers specific conclusions, outlines research needs, and recommends policies that are technologically sound while still protecting health and the environment. Authored by the top experts from industry and academia, this volume: Examines how the physical, chemical, and biological characteristics of the subsurface environment, as well as the properties of contaminants, complicate the cleanup task. Reviews the limitations of widely used conventional pump-and-treat cleanup systems, including detailed case studies. Evaluates a range of innovative cleanup technologies and the barriers to their full implementation. Presents specific recommendations for policies and practices in evaluating contamination sites, in choosing remediation technologies, and in setting appropriate cleanup goals.

Book Synopsis Aircraft Recovery Operations (Fm 3-04.513) by : Department of the Army
Download or read book Aircraft Recovery Operations (Fm 3-04.513) written by Department of the Army and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2017-08-08 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This manual, "Aircraft Recovery Operations," (FM 3-04.513) is the Army's doctrine for battlefield and garrison recovery operations. Emphasis is placed on modular force structure and the enhanced operational capability provided by Army aviation transformation. It builds on the collective knowledge and experience gained through recent operations, numerous exercises, and the deliberate process of informed reasoning. This publication is rooted in time-tested principles and fundamentals, while accommodating new technologies and evolving responses to the diverse threats to national security. Aircraft recovery missions include the assessment, repair, and retrieval, if possible, of aircraft forced down due to component malfunction, accident, or combat-related damage that prevents the continued safe flight or operation of the aircraft. The aircraft recovery mission is complete upon the return of all personnel and either: The return of the aircraft through self-recovery or dedicated recovery utilizing aerial or surface recovery methods and techniques, or The selective cannibalization and destruction or abandonment of the aircraft. Aircraft recovery is a pre-planned mission for all units with assigned or operational control of Army aircraft and may require extensive coordination with supporting units. Aircraft recovery is time sensitive to the tactical situation. Aircraft recovery and maintenance evacuations are closely related, however, maintenance evacuation is the physical act of moving an aircraft from one maintenance location to another.
