Download or read book Sacred Space written by Dan Kimball and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2010-01-05 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a culture where teenagers are growing up inundated with images, experiences, and media that moves and changes at the speed of light, it's no wonder many of them learn better when they're doing something-not only listening to someone talk to them. So rather than stand up front and only use words to teach about Jesus calling the disciples to be 'fishers of men,o why not provide an experience that incorporates the idea of fishing? Using simple things like an inflatable boat and goldfish crackers can turn the 'old storyo into something new that your students think of every time they snack on a goldfish cracker or see a boat. It turns the lesson into an experience. Sacred Space provides dozens of ideas to help students engage in scripture and apply the lesson to their own lives. Whether you're looking to teach a biblical theme, the life of Christ, or a gospel passage, or even when celebrating holidays, you'll find step-by-step instructions to create the space and experience necessary to draw your students into the story. Through art, listening, writing, and multi-sensory prayer stations, your students will experience God's Word in a whole new way. This is more than a toolbox for your ministry-it's a holistic way to approach teaching and communicating God's Word. Authors Dan Kimball and Lilly Lewin bring their years of experience developing these kinds of experiences in youth group settings and churches. In addition to worship experiences on the life of Christ, you'll find ideas for teaching on: The life of David Women of the Bible The Sermon on the Mount Justice The Gospel of Luke Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter And more Use these ideas in your typical gathering to enhance the teaching and musical worship, or develop these experiences into a special event, or a new, unique service without singing or teaching. Inside you'll find everything you need (except the actual supplies!) to create experiences that can transform the way your students encounter God, and help them engage in and learn from the Bible in more meaningful ways.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most preaching and teaching in the church engages only one of the senses—hearing. In The Power of Multisensory Preaching and Teaching, Rick Blackwood shows how recognizing and engaging the multiple senses of the congregation can lead to greater impact. Blackwood presents both biblical evidence and scientific research showing that the more senses we stimulate in teaching and preaching, the greater the levels of learner attention, comprehension, and retention. Blackwood addresses both the “why” and the “how” of multisensory communication. Regardless of one’s current skill level, this practical book can help anyone add multi-sensory elements to messages in order to take communication to the next level—more compelling, clear, and memorable. As a result of reading this book readers can be more effective as a communicator and teacher. The book includes tools, examples, and worksheets.

Book Synopsis The Senses of Scripture by : Yael Avrahami
Download or read book The Senses of Scripture written by Yael Avrahami and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2012-06-15 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Senses of Scripture reveals the essence of biblical epistemology - the ways in which ancient Israelites thought about and used their sensorium. The theoretical introduction demonstrates that scholars need to liberate themselves from the Western bias that holds a pentasensory paradigm and prioritises the sense of sight. The discussion of the biblical material demonstrates that biblical scholars should follow a similar path. Through examination of associative and contextual patters the author reaches a septasensory model, including sight, hearing, speech, kinaesthesia, touch, taste, and smell. It is further demonstrated that the senses, according to the HB, are a divinely created physical experience, which symbolised human ability to act in a sovereign manner in the world. Despite the lack of a biblical Hebrew term 'sense', it seems that at times the merism sight and hearing serves that matter. Finally, the book discusses the longstanding dispute regarding the primacy of sight vs. hearing, and claims that although there is no strict sensory hierarchy evident in the text, sight holds a central space in biblical epistemology.

Book Synopsis Hearing God’s Voice: Towards a Theology of Contemporary Pentecostal Revelatory Experience by : Tania M. Harris
Download or read book Hearing God’s Voice: Towards a Theology of Contemporary Pentecostal Revelatory Experience written by Tania M. Harris and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2023-09-25 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The revelatory experience or in common parlance, “hearing God’s voice,” is prized by Pentecostal-Charismatic Christians for its contribution to spirituality, yet remains one of the most problematic areas of church life. Theological tensions and pastoral fallout have plagued the experience since the time of the New Testament. Drawing on the tools of practical theology, this book presents the findings of a unique and ground-breaking study among Australian Pentecostals. With a theological framework modelled on New Testament practice and undergirded by the accountability of the local church, many of the problems associated with revelatory experience can be addressed and the experience fully harnessed for kingdom purpose.
Download or read book First Expressions written by Steve Taylor and published by SCM Press. This book was released on 2019-12-30 with total page 183 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seeking insight from the real-life development of the earliest expressions of emerging church from their birth, through times of adolescent angst and into the reality of adulthood, this book offers a unique insight into the long-term sustainability of fresh expressions. Presenting the lived practice of the church in mission through a longitudinal lens, and eschewing the rose-tinted approach, it considers the reality of emerging churches - their birth and death, their creativity and conflict, their dreams and despair. A picture of a church that is neither gathered and parish nor independent and networked emerges as the biographies of mission are brought into dialogue with a very ancient expression of mission, the birth of Philippians as a first expression of church in Europe..
Download or read book Sensing God written by Roger Ferlo and published by Cowley Publications. This book was released on 2001-11-01 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Think of all the senses you use when you pick up a Bible. What do you see? What do you smell? What do you touch? Reading scripture attentively is more than a matter of sight. Most of us have been taught to think about God in visual terms, yet the very subject matter of scripture—our relationship with the fullness of God—makes irresistible demands upon all of our senses if we are to begin to understand anything about God. In these meditations on stories from the New Testament, Roger Ferlo shows us how to read the Bible in a “full-bodied” way, with all the senses attuned. For just as a printed recipe cannot substitute for a mouth-watering feast, so the Bible must be brought to life through the senses. Its stories must be seen, heard, touched, smelled, and tasted. Only then, Ferlo believes, can we truly begin to encounter in our lives the Word of God to us in scripture. Sensing God is one of our series of Cowley Cloister Books: smaller format, gift edition books designed for meditative and devotional reading.
