Download or read book Mr. Stem written by Juanita Graham and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2016-09-07 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mr. STEM is a book that introduces elementary-age students to the world of science, technology engineering, and math by using their everyday surroundings to make it more understandable. The objective of Mr. STEM is to sow a seed in the mind of the elementary student that science, technology, engineering, and math is the way of life in this twenty-first century. It will also prepare them early enough to fully understand the importance of learning STEM for future careers. The US rank twenty-seventh in science out of thirty-four countries and twenty-fourth in math out of thirty-four countries, partly due to a lack of exposure to STEM education at an early age. Alabama STEM Education has been organized to do just that as an after-school program. Since its inception in 2014, more than five hundred students and over 1,200 adults have been made aware of what STEM is. As we continue our efforts of STEM awareness with products such as Mr. Books, STEM after-school programs, and open forums, the US will get closer to regaining its rightful position as number one in STEM-related fields. The Mr. STEM book is designed to be bold, colorful, and very easy to read with out-of-the-box thinking in it. Learning STEM early is a win-win, not just for the students that read it but also our communities and, ultimately, our country!

Download or read book Stem Cells in Modeling Human Genetic Diseases written by Mayana Zatz and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-08-11 with total page 147 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While most stem cell books focus on basic aspects and/or cell therapy, this book emphasizes the relevance of stem cells obtained from patients, the so-called “patients in a petri dish” as tools to investigate human genetic diseases for which there are no available effective treatment. Chapters embrace several examples of the use of iPS cell technology, a recent Nobel Prize-winning scientific breakthrough, to obtain patient-specific pluripotent cells from which many types of specialized cells involved in a particular disease can be generated, including psychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders, muscular dystrophies, laminopathies, among others. The text is a current and timely resource for postgraduate students, scientists and clinicians, interested in applications of this rapidly developing field of research in disease modeling, drug development, and emerging issues that it brings to regenerative medicine.

Book Synopsis Stem Cell Research in Asia by : Margaret Sleeboom-Faulkner
Download or read book Stem Cell Research in Asia written by Margaret Sleeboom-Faulkner and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-03-22 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The great hurry to realise promised cures in stem cell research requires regulation to guarantee bioethical research practices. Yet, increasingly similar national guidelines for stem cell research yields a range of diverging research practices. This book shows how the different rationale of regulation affects stem cell research practices in Asia. In low- and medium income countries such as India and China the advancement of science has a different weight on the national agenda, and the evaluation of scientific research is measured with a different yardstick, depending on the political and national research environment. For developing countries the question of research funding into stem cell research, healthcare, and the donation of embryos, foetuses and oocytes entail different considerations compared to in affluent welfare societies. Moreover, research institutions have different cultural and political histories, so that the meaning of formal guidelines, legislation and social rules may differ according to their various institutional settings. This volume discusses the informal cultures, social conventions and traditions that are crucial to the way in which stem cell research takes place in Asia. This book was originally published as a special issue of New Genetics and Society.
