Book Synopsis The Black Stone of Ka'ba by : William Patterson
Download or read book The Black Stone of Ka'ba written by William Patterson and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2006 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In New York City, a new World Trade Center has arisen from the ruins of the old World Trade Center, but it's not long before it too collapses into flames. Arab suicidal bombers drive six tractor trailers loaded with explosives into the World Trade Center, prompting an American invasion of Syria in retaliation. A guerrilla war is being fought in Syria against the United States. The American people are outraged at the staggering number of American casualties, and President Weed's position in public opinion polls declines in the midst of the presidential election campaign, making his reelection not certain. Adding to his problems is the presence of a vituperative antiwar third party candidate. In an attempt to win the election and to win the war in Syria, Vice President Regina Ropey, President Weed's mentor, devises a plan to completely eradicate Islam. To weaken the Arabs' faith in their religion, Ropey proposes that the sacred stone of the Muslims, the Black Stone of Ka'ba, be destroyed. Will Ropey's bold plan work, or is the United States on a collision course with a dark fate?

Book Synopsis Integrating China into the Global Economy by : Nicholas R. Lardy
Download or read book Integrating China into the Global Economy written by Nicholas R. Lardy and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2004-05-13 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: China's accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO) has been hailed as the biggest coming-out party in the history of capitalism. Its membership eventually will contribute to higher standards of living for its citizens and increased growth for its economy. But why would the Chinese communist regime voluntarily agree to comply with the many complex rules of the global trading system since it has already become the world's seventh largest trading country while avoiding these constraints by remaining outside the system? The answer to this question forms the basis for this new book. Nicholas Lardy explores the many pressures on the Chinese government, both external and internal, to comply with the standards of the rule-based international trading system. Lardy points out that, prior to entry into the WTO, China enjoyed high growth rates and more foreign direct investment than any other emerging economy. He draws on a wealth of scholarship and experience to explain how China's leadership expects to leverage the increased foreign competition inherent in its WTO commitments to accelerate its domestic economic reform program, leading to the shrinkage and transformation of inefficient, money-losing companies and hastening the development of a commercial credit culture in its banks. Lardy answers a number of other questions about China's new WTO membership, including its effects on bilateral trade with the United States; the possibility that China will use its power to reshape the WTO in the future; the degree to which the terms of China's entry were more or less demanding than those for other new members; the ability of China's economy to successfully open to new imports; and the prospects for new growth in various sectors of China's economy made possible by WTO accession. This book will become an important tool for those who wish to understand China's new role in the global trading system, to take advantage of the new opportunities for investment in China

Book Synopsis Motorcycle Mastery by : Alan Hearnshaw

Book excerpt: Written by an advanced motorcycle instructor with thirty-five years of daily riding under his belt, Motorcycle Mastery is written for riders who would like to take their riding to the next level. It is a commonly-held belief that riding well begins and ends with control of your machine. The author contends that mere control of your machine—while a necessary skill—is a small part of what it takes to be a competent, well-rounded, and, most importantly, a safe rider. Far more important are the skills necessary for truly being the master of our environment; for negotiating our way through the hazards we face every day out on the road in a safe, competent and masterly efficient manner. It is these skills that are presented in Motorcycle Mastery. Beginning with some basic control skills to lay the foundation, the author then takes us through more and more advanced techniques not taught in common motorcycle license courses with a view to really honing our skill level, and making us the very best riders we can be. • Observation • Visibility • Positioning • Planning • Observation Links • The System for Safe Motorcycle Riding • Safe Passing • Group Riding • Road hazards • Riding in Hazardous Conditions • And more…
